Script for Reading Guitar Tabs

George Calvert <gcalvert@...>

Hi List,

Back in January there were several posts about how to read guitar tab
notation with JAWS. I have created a free, open source script that reads
guitar tablature notation and translates it into playing instructions that
can be read in the JAWS virtual buffer. The address is:

http://backtoplayingblind.blogspot.com

This site contains instructions for installing and running the script, as
well as information for developers who want to enhance or extend the script.

I created this script after losing my vision three years ago and hope
others will find it useful. Please let me know if anyone encounters
problems in working with the script.

Hi George,
Thanks for posting this. I didn't know your scripts existed. I went to a mainstream high school, where I took a beginners guitar class. However, I wasn't able to take full advantage of that class as the books they were using were old and I couldn't access it. On the other hand, reading tabs itself it's already hard enough. Thus, I was many times left out from certain parts of the class. I no longer take lessons, I probably forgot the bits I learned, but I still have a guitar. I will try your scripts sometime over the weekend. Would it be alright if I contact you off list for further questions? Thanks,
Ariel
