OCR component not installed?
Matthew Bullis
Hello, when trying to use the document mode for the quick OCR, Jaws 16 says the component isn't installed. Should I go somewhere or do something to complete the installation?
Thanks, Matthew -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://lists.the-jdh.com/pipermail/jfw_lists.the-jdh.com/attachments/20150211/7a1973fa/attachment.html>

You need to keep your internet connection on while installing JAWS so

that the component get install automatically or you can manually download and install the component from here. ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/Tools/FSOcr13.0.1512ENU.exe Note: you must restart your computer after the installation.

I think it also works automatically when installing from a disk.

I had the same problem, and the solution was to delete programs from my hard drive. The drive was too full so there wasn't enough room to install everything. Once I cleaned up the drive, Jaws 16 installed nicely.

I uninstalled programs from my drive that I no longer use, including older versions of Jaws. I used the Windows 7 Add/Remove Programs utility. My drive was not completely full, but apparently it was full enough to cause disruption with the Jaws 16 installation. The only Jaws 16 component not installed was the OCR feature. I work in state government, and my tech support person was the one to hit on the problem. Once I removed several programs I was no longer using, all was fine. Oh, BTW, we did clean out data in cache and temporary folders, too. I had a huge amount of data in GPS maps from over the past several years. Some of the data I removed manually. For others, I used the drive clean feature in the properties for my drive. So, the drive clean-up focused on both programs and data. Hope this additional info helps.

...and a good idea to do a defragmentation after removing all that stuff.
