Malware Bites with Jaws

I know this has been addressed, so bear with me.

Which version of Malware Bites is the accessible enough version? I just
downloaded it and it's not accessible.

Is there a safe download link any of you can toss my way?

Thanks so much.

You want Malware Bytes version 1.75. I downloaded and installed it just a few days ago. The download link I used is below; there are several places you can find and download it, but this one worked fine for me. After you install it, answer no or cancel to any prompts about updating the software version. There is a separate prompt about updating the scan definitions, and you answer yes to that. For the long term, you can either turn off the auto-update option, or whenever you get that message about wanting to update to a newer version, just cancel out of that.

Here is the link to paste into your browser; for some reason my computer is acting up and will not let me paste this in as a link.

Why inhibit software updates? They come out with new versions because the old one can't deal with the newest threats. It's a very good idea to install all available updates as soon as they're released.

Hi Lee:
Rumor has it that the latest version of Malware Bytes is not accessible.
If updates are allowed, you may get this Malware Bytes version whether you want it or not.

There is the choice to install the newest version and another prompt to update the database. I choose to update the definition database to catch the latest threats but see no reason to update to an inaccessible front end.

Thanks to everybody for this thread. I thought that it was running in the background but it runs only when you run it. For this you need the accessible version. Note that I have not verified that the new version is inaccessible, only that the old one is. I'm not very happy about having to run old software as it's always possible the newer one has other "improvements" than the front end, but since I hadn't run a scan in a couple years and had only one suspicious file in the recycle bin it probably doesn't make a difference, at least so far.

1.75 is the latest accessible version. you can maybe find a copy at
filehippo.com. once installed, it can be tweaked to not automatically update
only the program so you don't suddenly find it inaccessible. I'm not sure if
future malware definitions will still work with 1.75, but:

using the JAWS cursor (numpad minus), find and click on the settings tab,
updater tab, tab one time to "Download and install program update" and
uncheck this box. tab again to "notify me when a program update is ready
for installation" and uncheck this box as well.
now tab to Exit, & press enter.
