Now that we have the direct download links to JAWS 14.0.9002, we just would like to know what they fixed and what they broke.

Downloaded the update earlier today, but I had to go back to the previous installation I had. The biggest issue I found was in Word. It was reading only by sentences. When I tried to read by paragraphs, it would only say, "Blank." When I would navigate from one paragraph to the other, it would say, "Tab." I am beginning to think that JAWS is going backwards instead of forward. Heh, JAWS 12 works a lot better than 14. Accessibility in Chrome is also broke. I know they haven't done much to supported, but it was a lot better with JAWS 12 than it is with 14.

Thanks for the alert to these problems. Here's what FS says the update fixes: Enhancements in JAWS 14.0.9002 (November 2013) This update improves speech and braille feedback when typing in the Search pane of the Windows 8.1 Start Screen. It also resolves several customer reported issues where JAWS was saying "clickable" on every line when navigating Web pages in Mozilla Firefox. I appreciate this "heads up" more than you will know.
I am just about ready to install Jaws 14 on a new Windows 7 computer, and downloaded Jaws 14.0.9002 yesterday. Now I think I will just go back to the original Jaws 14 that is on the Jaws 14 CD.
My SMA ran out with Jaws 14, and as far as I'm concerned, I'm not even going to ask my University to renew it, or touch Jaws 15 because of exactly what you have found here.
I use Microsoft Word extensively, both professionally and personally, and simply don't need additional headaches.
All of this is making switching to a MAC look better and better every day.

The release just before this last one worked pretty well. I think I wold
install that one.
Man, I wish I had read this blurb vefore I downloaded and installed the
latest and greatest. (sad face)
Oh well, hopefully there will be one last fix before they give up on 14.

I noticed that the new JAWS is actually a little smaller than the last 14 update--somewhere in the neighborhood of 6MB for the 32-bit version. Based upon what you guys are saying, I infer it still has problems with read-only documents and e-mails too. You'd think they'd want to address something like that ASAP.

I think it's 14.0.6005.
If not, I'll just go with the instalation from the original Jaws 14 CD and call it good.

Tom,
It may not be useful information to you now, but I've always collected each
of the versions and their sub-versions just in case I need to roll back
after a debacle.
Maybe this will help others as we continue to muddle forward (or regress)
through future versions of JAWS.
As to sending one, It's about 120 mb, so too big to mail to you.

You have an absolutely excellent point here.
It has been a few years since I have put my adaptive software on a new computer from scratch, and I guess this situation is causing me to learn the hard way that it is always wise to keep copies of updated software on a storage device or two somewhere in case they are needed.
I had hoped that version 14.0.6005 was still up on the Freedom Scientific web site under previous downloads, but I couldn't find it.
So, I'll just use the original CD for my initial instalation, and wait for an even newer update to come around.
Not sure if new updates will do me any good, but I can always hope.

This is a very good question.
I have looked all over FreedomScientific.com/downloads and I can find JAWS
versions from JAWS 3.000 forward but, alas, no previous version for JAWS
14.09002. What you want is JAWS 14.06005.
You could ask FS tech support and they may be able to help you.

I am just about ready to install Jaws 14 on a new Windows 7 computer, and
downloaded Jaws 14.0.9002 yesterday. Now I think I will just go back to
the
original Jaws 14 that is on the Jaws 14 CD.
My SMA ran out with Jaws 14, and as far as I'm concerned, I'm not even
going
to ask my University to renew it, or touch Jaws 15 because of exactly
what
you have found here.
I use Microsoft Word extensively, both professionally and personally, and
simply don't need additional headaches.
All of this is making switching to a MAC look better and better every
day.

Tom,
14.09002 is actually not all that bad. My version seems to work fairly well
with Office 2007 on a W7 64 bit HP laptop.

It may not be useful information to you now, but I've always collected
each
of the versions and their sub-versions just in case I need to roll back
after a debacle.
Maybe this will help others as we continue to muddle forward (or regress)
through future versions of JAWS.
As to sending one, It's about 120 mb, so too big to mail to you.

versions from JAWS 3.000 forward but, alas, no previous version for JAWS
14.09002. What you want is JAWS 14.06005.
