Looking for an accessible Anti- Virus Program

Petro T. Giannakopoulos <petrogia@...>

Besides Microsoft's Windows Security Essentials what are you using as your Anti-Virus program with Vista and/or Windows 7? Is the free Avast 2013 Anti-Virus program accessible with JFW 14?

Thank you.

What is not that good' about AVG?

Avast requires booting into safe mode for uninstalling. This while possible if installing a registry hack to enable sound in safe mode, will be quite daunting for the novice user.

Thanks much.

So in other words, AVG is not really a viable alternative to MSE. Nor is Avast because it may interfere with other programs and is difficult to impossible to remove. Nor is Trend Micro or Avira which are totally inaccessible. Nor is NOD32, which, while reasonably accessible, requires solving an image captcha in order to purchase. So it's back to MSE, which is still easy and free.

Distinct? I think MSE is very distinct right now. LOL! But seriously, if MS was considering discontinuing MSE, they would not have included it in Windows 8.1, where it is known as Windows Defender.

I agree, and you make a good point. For the record, I think the person who said "distinct" meant "extinct."

After the post that triggered this MSE thread, I spoke to a computer security expert who dismisses the significance of the claims. I don't want to get him involved, so I offer this for what it's worth. But it seems clear that the evidence favors MS's continued support of MSE.

Avast requires booting into safe mode for uninstalling. This while
possible
if installing a registry hack to enable sound in safe mode, will be quite
daunting for the novice user.

The problem I had with the claim that MS was suggesting you buy someone

It would be like MS suggesting that you convert to Apple? (LOLLOLLOL)

I agree, and you make a good point. For the record, I think the person who
said "distinct" meant "extinct."

After the post that triggered this MSE thread, I spoke to a computer
security expert who dismisses the significance of the claims. I don't want
to get him involved, so I offer this for what it's worth. But it seems clear
that the evidence favors MS's continued support of MSE.

Distinct? I think MSE is very distinct right now. LOL! But seriously, if
MS was considering discontinuing MSE, they would not have included it in
Windows 8.1, where it is known as Windows Defender.

solving an image captcha in order to purchase. So it's back to MSE,
