Windows Live Mail

David Bailes

Hi Jean,
The accessibility of windows live mail on windows 8 is the same as it is on windows 7. It's not ideal, but it's quite usable. It supports both pop3 and imap, and you can use a gmail account.
There's a jaws guide to windows live mail 2011 available here:
http://goo.gl/mnHqJ
Note that the current version of windows live mail is in fact 2012, but the differences between the 2011 and 2012 versions are only very minor differences in the ribbons.

8? I'm considering giving it a try if there are no major hassles. Also, does
Live Mail support pop3 and gmail accounts?

Thanks David,

Thanks for yet another great guide. I've now switched to Windows Live Mail, and for my needs, I like it a lot better than Outlook.

Now Kevin, I want to step up and challenge you. Although WLM is based on
Outlook Express, it is not Outlook Express. There are a number of
differences in how the program works, especially with regard JAWS (to keep
all this on topic).

I don't want to see anyone taking you literally.

Because JAWS interprets the executable MSOE.DLL as Outlook Express. It does
the same on my system, and I have Windows Mail. Look at the help/about
dialog to get the actual program name.

Also the Insert+q keystroke will announce what JAWS is using as an alias, if
any.

Dave...

Kevin,

Another thing I noticed, is that if you look in the script file itself,
you'll see references to Outlook Express, either there because no one at FS
bothered to update them, or because the underlying object models from
Microsoft are still labeled as Outlook Express -- which means that Microsoft
didn't bother to update WLM or WM, either.

That probably explains why you hear "Outlook Express Message List" when you
launch WLM.
