Flash Player will not install without Java

Adrian Spratt

On the weekend, a lister alerted me that Nimite no longer supports the
updating of Adobe Flash Player. It is possible the website will still do so,
but only after you pay an annual subscription of $9.99. The website isn't
clear on this point.

The next day I got an alert that AFP needs to be updated. I went through the
installation process, which has become more accessible, only to be told the
installation was unsuccessful. The reason? Apparently it's because I removed
Java from my system after recommendations to do so from the government and
several experts.

Has anyone here solved this conundrum?

To my knowledge, there is no connection between Java and Adobe Flash, so removing the former from your computer should not affect the installation of the latter. I removed Java from my system a few months ago and have had no problem installing the latest updates to Adobe Flash from the Adobe Flash download site.

I too went to ninite.com and did a Jaws Find to search for Flash, but it wasn't found. What do I do next time a site won't work in Firefox, and trying to use it in IE brings a crash and "send error report"? How can I select the non-IE version of Flash now? I'm not sure if updateflash.org lets me select between Flash players for IE and other browsers.

Yeah, losing the Adobe Flash option on Ninite is a real bummer. But installing Flash from the Adobe Flash download site is actually pretty straightforward and JAWS accessible.
Using Firefox, access the Adobe Flash download page below and simply download and install Flash for Firefox. Be sure to uncheck the check box for installing Google Chrome and Tool Bar which is checked by default. Then open IE and access the Adobe Flash download page again to download and install Flash for IE.

Adrian,

Filehippo is a one stop shop for freeware/shareware applications. In order to find what you are looking for, you can do the following:

Bring up the "Links list", hit B until you hear "browsers and plugins". Hit enter.
Links list again, hit F until you hear "Flash Player ###### IE/Non-IE" - Note that there are 32 and 64 bit versions. If you are unsure which one you need...If you have a newer computer, then you might have a 64 bit computer. If it's older (+3 years old or more) then it might be 32 bit. Hit enter on the right one and you will be directed to another page. If in doubt, go with the 32 bit.
Links list again, hit D until you hear "Download Latest Version" (do not add the "download our free update checker...") click enter to be taken to the adobe flash player page. Please note that you may need to uncheck a "McAfee AntiVirus" form field which is an automated installer that can come with the Adobe update.

Bring up the "Headers list" to surf through the different types of available software.

If you need older versions of software, find the one that you need and click the link to take you to the software page; look for "Download Latest Version" and instead of hitting enter, arrow down for previous releases.

Joshua

BTW to all responses, Ninite was asked to remove the Adobe programs by

The KB article says that JavaScript must be enabled in order to download
Flash Player, not Java. They are not the same; the name causes confusion.

Your link enabled me to install AFP for firefox, but not AFP for IE. Adobe
is explicit in requiring that Java be enabled:

Gerald, did you install AFP in the last two days or so? If so, I wonder
why
the inconsistent results and why Adobe stresses the need for Java.

Yeah, losing the Adobe Flash option on Ninite is a real bummer. But
installing Flash from the Adobe Flash download site is actually pretty
straightforward and JAWS accessible.
Using Firefox, access the Adobe Flash download page below and simply
download and install Flash for Firefox. Be sure to uncheck the check box
for installing Google Chrome and Tool Bar which is checked by default.
Then

open IE and access the Adobe Flash download page again to download and
install Flash for IE.

Adrian,

Filehippo is a one stop shop for freeware/shareware applications. In order
to find what you are looking for, you can do the following:

Bring up the "Links list", hit B until you hear "browsers and plugins". Hit
enter.
Links list again, hit F until you hear "Flash Player ###### IE/Non-IE" -
Note that there are 32 and 64 bit versions. If you are unsure which one you
need...If you have a newer computer, then you might have a 64 bit computer.
If it's older (+3 years old or more) then it might be 32 bit. Hit enter on
the right one and you will be directed to another page. If in doubt, go with
the 32 bit.
Links list again, hit D until you hear "Download Latest Version" (do not add
the "download our free update checker...") click enter to be taken to the
adobe flash player page. Please note that you may need to uncheck a "McAfee
AntiVirus" form field which is an automated installer that can come with the
Adobe update.

Bring up the "Headers list" to surf through the different types of available
software.

If you need older versions of software, find the one that you need and click
the link to take you to the software page; look for "Download Latest
Version" and instead of hitting enter, arrow down for previous releases.

How much RAM does your computer have?

As a rule of thumb, If it has 4G of RAM or more, then you have a 64 bit processor. If you have 3G of RAM or less, then you most likely have a 32 bit system. 32 bit systems are limited in the amount of RAM that they can have installed and used.

Assuming you're running Win7, press control together with the pause button.
Switch to the JAWS cursor and arrow down through your system specs.

Hi,

How do you know if you have 32 or 64 on my new computer?

Thanks,

Hi,
You can go to:
www.filehippo.com
You can find all versions of flash here. If you still can't download it,
I can help by putting it in Dropbox and sending you the link. Just let
me know whether you need 32 or 64 bit. Thanks,
A

lets me select between Flash players for IE and other browsers.

On the weekend, a lister alerted me that Nimite no longer supports the
updating of Adobe Flash Player. It is possible the website will still do
so,
but only after you pay an annual subscription of $9.99. The website isn't
clear on this point.

The next day I got an alert that AFP needs to be updated. I went through
the
installation process, which has become more accessible, only to be told
the
installation was unsuccessful. The reason? Apparently it's because I
removed
Java from my system after recommendations to do so from the government
and
several experts.

Has anyone here solved this conundrum?

Hi Desiree,

To find out for sure exactly what you are running try the following:
1. Press the Windows Key + the Pause key to open system information
2. Route the Jaws cursor to the PC cursor, Jaws Key + Jaws cursor Key /
numpad minus.
3. Press the page-up key to take the cursor to the top of the page.
4. Arrow down 1 line at a time & underneath, *System* , you wil find your
system information.

HTH
Take care.
Mike

Ah! So that's why after I installed 8gb of ram, only 4gb are available
to me. thank you for clearing this up. I was curious about that for
the longest time. I wonder, is it hurting anything to have the extra
4gb in my computer if it's not being used? Should I take it out?

As a rule of thumb, If it has 4G of RAM or more, then you have a 64 bit
processor. If you have 3G of RAM or less, then you most likely have a 32
bit
system. 32 bit systems are limited in the amount of RAM that they can have
installed and used.
