real speak

Harris, Robert <harris.robert@...>

Do you have to use the CD to install Real Speak? I downloaded a few voices Friday night and want to use them. If I can do this without IT folks I'd love it but if not they will be getting called again this afternoon.

I'm in JAWS 13.0.718.

I ran it on evaluation mode for a couple of months but now I have upgraded
from JAWS 13. I started with the JAWS 14 beta and then it converted to the
evaluation version. Maybe I should have removed the evaluation version and
then installed JAWS 14?

Does JAWS work when you first fully restart your computer? I ask because I
have been having a problem with a JAWS error 6 message which causes jaws to
go in to demo mode and stop working after 40 minutes. If you are perhaps
getting this message or for some other reason jaws is running in demo mode
then you will find when you wake your computer up from sleep that jaws does
nothing as the demo mode has run out during the time the computer was
asleep. Is your jaws running in demo mode at all? Are you getting any
messages?

John,

It seems so obvious, but you don't mention here whether you re-enter your
Win7 password.

Assuming that's not the issue, have you tried a refresh with JAWS
key+escape? How about pressing alt+tab to move away from the screen,
release, and then alt+tab again to return to the screen?

Hi JAWS Users

When I close my laptop computer using JAWS 14 in W7 often when I start again
JAWS will tell me about the log on screen and then and I will press endter.
Then JAWS will not speak and I will have to force the computer off and start
again.
I have tried insert + space bar and then S, doing this twice.
I have tried to turn JAWS off and reload, no luck.

The downloaded voices use the RealSpeak SoloDirect interface, their
voices I got on CD use SAPI5.
In any given voice profile you can use only one of SAPI, Solo Direct
or the newer Vocalizer interface. (You can mix use of Eloquence with
the more natural voices but not two of the others).

So in your voice profile jaws+j -> Options -> Voices -> Voice
adjustment make sure that you have selected Solo Direct as either the
primary synthesizer or the say all synthesizer and then you should be
able to choose the voices you installed. (Note that as the installer
mentions you have to restart jaws before the new voices show up).

Does JAWS work when you first fully restart your computer? I ask
because I have been having a problem with a JAWS error 6 message
which causes jaws to go in to demo mode and stop working after 40
minutes. If you are perhaps getting this message or for some other
reason jaws is running in demo mode then you will find when you wake
your computer up from sleep that jaws does nothing as the demo mode
has run out during the time the computer was asleep. Is your jaws
running in demo mode at all? Are you getting any messages?

John,

It seems so obvious, but you don't mention here whether you re-enter
your
Win7 password.

Assuming that's not the issue, have you tried a refresh with JAWS
key+escape? How about pressing alt+tab to move away from the screen,
release, and then alt+tab again to return to the screen?

Hi JAWS Users

When I close my laptop computer using JAWS 14 in W7 often when I
start again JAWS will tell me about the log on screen and then and I
will press endter.
Then JAWS will not speak and I will have to force the computer off
and start again.
I have tried insert + space bar and then S, doing this twice.
I have tried to turn JAWS off and reload, no luck.

The downloaded voices use the RealSpeak SoloDirect interface, their voices I got on CD use SAPI5.
In any given voice profile you can use only one of SAPI, Solo Direct or the newer Vocalizer interface. (You can mix use of Eloquence with the more natural voices but not two of the others).

So in your voice profile jaws+j -> Options -> Voices -> Voice adjustment make sure that you have selected Solo Direct as either the primary synthesizer or the say all synthesizer and then you should be able to choose the voices you installed. (Note that as the installer mentions you have to restart jaws before the new voices show up).

You don't need to reinstall jaws to add solo direct,

Bring up the Synthesizers and Braille Manager, jaws+j -> utilities ->
Synthesizer and Braille Manager, then hit the Add/Remove or Change
button make sure "speech synthesizers" is selected hit the next
button, then on the list of synthesizers check the RealSpeak
SoloDirect box (you might want to go ahead and select Vocalizer Direct
as well) and then hit the Finish button and finally the Close button
on the main Synthesizer and Braille Manager window

It seems so obvious, but you don't mention here whether you
re-enter your
Win7 password.

Assuming that's not the issue, have you tried a refresh with JAWS
key+escape? How about pressing alt+tab to move away from the
key+screen,
release, and then alt+tab again to return to the screen?

Hi JAWS Users

When I close my laptop computer using JAWS 14 in W7 often when I
start again JAWS will tell me about the log on screen and then and
I will press endter.
Then JAWS will not speak and I will have to force the computer off
and start again.
I have tried insert + space bar and then S, doing this twice.
I have tried to turn JAWS off and reload, no luck.

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

Speaking of all this, I will probably abandon use of the current Real speak in exchange for the new voices, once I make the switch in a few days. If I uninstall RealSpeak, will that delete the Real-Speak section of my JAWS dictionary, especially my meticulously compiled Bible dictionary? If so, I will alter the dictionary, prior to deleting the old voice files.

Does JAWS work when you first fully restart your computer? I ask

If you have dictionary entries that are synthesizer specific I doubt
they would get deleted but at the same time they also won't be any use
if you change synthesizers. I tend to leave the language and
synthesizer entries as their default in the dictionary so that they
apply no matter what the synthesizer (my dictionary entries are
crammed together words for the most part, I just add spaces so that
they pronounce each part individually, rather than names or such where
I am trying to correct the actual way a word is spoken).

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)

Switching an entry from one synthesizer to another is really quite simple, so I don't worry about that. I presume the phonetics of the new synths are about the same as the old RealSpeak and SAPI 5. I know I made the transition from SAPI 5 to RealSpeak entries some time ago, but don't recall if it was before or after deleting SAPI5. I really haven't missed those voices, save for occasional (very occasional) use with Acrobat Reader.

John,

If you have dictionary entries that are synthesizer specific I doubt they would get deleted but at the same time they also won't be any use if you change synthesizers. I tend to leave the language and synthesizer entries as their default in the dictionary so that they apply no matter what the synthesizer (my dictionary entries are crammed together words for the most part, I just add spaces so that they pronounce each part individually, rather than names or such where I am trying to correct the actual way a word is spoken).

Speaking of all this, I will probably abandon use of the current Real

section of my JAWS dictionary, especially my meticulously compiled
Bible dictionary? If so, I will alter the dictionary, prior to deleting the old voice files.

(Note that as the installer
mentions you have to restart jaws before the new voices show up).

needed a realspeak something but don't want all the voices and
languages. I still only show two synthesizers'.

Wel, you can download the realspeak from freedom website if you don't
want to use the cd, if you do it that way, then you get the voices
you want because the cd don't have all the voices.

John,

No, you're fine. Authorization uses the exact same code, it just
removes the timeout feature.

I ran it on evaluation mode for a couple of months but now I have
upgraded from JAWS 13. I started with the JAWS 14 beta and then it
converted to the evaluation version. Maybe I should have removed
the evaluation version and then installed JAWS 14?

Does JAWS work when you first fully restart your computer? I ask
because I have been having a problem with a JAWS error 6 message
which causes jaws to go in to demo mode and stop working after 40
minutes. If you are perhaps getting this message or for some other
reason jaws is running in demo mode then you will find when you
wake your computer up from sleep that jaws does nothing as the demo
mode has run out during the time the computer was asleep. Is your
jaws running in demo mode at all? Are you getting any messages?
