Welcome. Sometimes it takes a while to get a response. You can assume that so far, no one who has looked at the list in the past two days uses LinkedIn. I'm surprised, too. Have you asked Freedom Scientific about it? -----Original Message-----

messages where the subject does not "grab" me. I've used Linked In and as far as I'm concerned, it's just one more web page that JAWS does quite well with. Andre, have you tried it yet? Perhaps that's all you need to do. Then if you have specific issues with specific parts of the web interface, someone who uses it regularly (unlike me) may have some suggestions. SO I guess my long-winded answers are as follows: Does anyone know how to use it? I did once quite a while ago. Does it work with JAWS? Yes. Does anyone know? Very likely. The problems are different every time I try to use it. Several other JAWS users I know are having problems with it as well. I use a Dell 64 bit laptop with I5 processor, 8 meg ram and high speed hard drive. On it is Windows7 and Office 2010. I have been a JAWS user for ten years and currently have JAWS 13 latest update. The problems with Linkedin are strange. The techs at Freedom Scientific say they have a lot of calls on Linkedin but do not know how to fix it. Each time I access Linkedin it acts differently. Only once in many months have I been able to check incoming messages. The woman who teaches JAWS here in town can't get it to work on her systems at home or work. Could it be that the basic linkedin set up, which is free, might be the problem? I hate to upgrade and have it not work. What do you think? Thanks, Andre -----Original Message-----

I was just Googling another question and noticed several discussions of LinkedIn's accessibility, on the whole sounding positive. You might do a search with terms such as LinkedIn, accessible, JAWS. To clear up LinkedIn's purpose, it is designed to connect employers with employees. Because resumes are posted on the site, employers can troll through for prospects. In that context, it is also a social network, much like Facebook. It is sometimes referred to as Facebook for professionals. Note how the name is written, with no spaces and caps L and I: LinkedIn. -----Original Message-----

Went to LinkedIn.com and could get around somewhat. However Messages and notifications could not be accessed. Often when receiving email announcments of individuals requesting linking I click on the link in the body of the email to go to LinkedIn to review the request. More often than not the accept link cannot be found. And sometimes when clicking the link within the body of an LinkedIn email; it goes to LinkedIn but sense cannot be made of the location within the LinkedIn site. Sometimes hitting alt-F4 to exit out does not work. It is baffeling. To go to LinkedIn.com and move around seems fairly easy and mostly working as expected. However if you are a JAWS user Who is totally blind try signing up and using it for a month or two. Then I think you will see what myself and others experience. Thanks -----Original Message-----

There are no scripts needed to access a standard web site application like Linkedin. I'm beginning to repeat myself. Again what browser are you using? What exact URL are you typing in? Helps at least to know you're not using Google Chrome. Unfortunately I don't have any other ideas. Linkedin is a pretty standard web page, and last night I found that it was behaving very well. Again I'm not a regular user, so may not be encountering the problems you're having. Are you having no issues with other web sites in general? Wondering if your Tools/Option/advanced settings are way out of default settings. If only Linkedin, then do you have some personalized JAWS quick settings for that page that are messing you up? I just don't know what would make Linkedin not work well if all other web sites work well. Sorry, and I'm surprised that FS support led you to believe that any special scripts might be needed for Linkedin. You are probably right. I often run into websites that one way or another are problematic. In the case of LinkedIn it appears the user experience is different than for those who just scan the sight. LinkedIn is an Oracle powered site and perhaps that has something to do with it. Oracle being a server operating system shouldn't effect the website. But I'm not sure exactly what being powered by Oracle means. If it turns out to be an Oracle interface issue in some way; then a JAWS script might be an answer. Until more is known, many thanks for your input. I now have a better feel for LinkedIn. I executed the "Contact Us" maybe they will return email and open dialogue.
