You want 2 hot keys: Alt-control-J for Jaws and Alt-Control-N for N.V.D.A.

It is also possible to run several instances of Jaws at the same time and together with N.V.D.A. you would have quite a cacophony of voices. Also, N.V.D.A. and Jaws read text in a slightly different order and of course, different voices. I have actually ran both and the result is very difficult to follow. I suppose one could even throw in a demo of Window Eyes, Kurzweil and Open Book to name jus a few other speech programs--just to see how many you could understand at once. -----Original Message-----

And if you're using a laptop rather don't do it because they both use

the capslock key for different things. To be honest I really can't see why someone would want to run two screenreaders at the same time? OK, a screenreader works better in one program than another, but I think the keyboard problem would be more of a drawback. Ari On 1/30/13, Kimsan <kimsansong@...> wrote:

Well, I guess you could sleep jaws in some programs and use nvda. but

I wanted to have JAWS running while installing and starting NVDA. By the way, I ran them together and it was a jumbled mess! Thanks for all the responses. ----- Original Message -----

There might be another reason to run both applications on the same system.

In anticipation of a new windows 7, 64-bit machine, I've been researching whether Win7 can support the external synthesizer Dectalk Express. It appears that both NVDA and WindowEyes work with this synthesizer on Win 7 64-bit systems. It isn't clear whether JAWS can, but there's a website from which you can download a driver that is supposed to enable Dectalk Express to work with 64-bit Win7. I won't be able to test it until I have the machine, but in case anyone else wants to try, here's the link: http://www.swondersoft.com/page-dectalk-express.html -----Original Message-----

Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)
If NVDA worked better in a particular context, that would be just the ticket.
