Alternative to Webvisum

Gerald Levy

Now that Webvisum is gone,I'm looking for a captcha solving alternative. Someone on another list suggested Captcha Monster, a paid Firefox add-on that purports to automatically solve image captchas . Does anyone have experience with this Firefox add-on, and is it compatible with JAWS?

I've never heard of CaptchaMonster before but am interested to try
this out. After I take the time to test, I will pass my findings onto
the list.

I have done a brief search of the Web for anything else I can find
about blind users locating alternative techniques to Solona and
Webvisum. Aside from the possibility you have raised, Gerald, it
looks as if everyone is in the same boat without an obvious solution
aside from the sighted reader. As an example, check out this
reference to a thread I found on the Klango network:
https://klango.net/en/forum/thread/tid/616783/page/1.

i just got a free trial of this captcha monster. but there's a catch. it is a monthly service with fee and i'm trying to find out how much. if there is a catch, that's probably it. i'll let folks know if it's something worthy of looking into or not.

I'm not going to bother after as long as the hosts file edit works
(and as far as I can tell it does work), after making that change
webvisum is able to login again.

So this Captcha Monster works? Is it easy to install? And do you have to disable Webvisum for it to work? I think it costs $2.95 per month for the basic plan which lets you solve up to 60 captchas per month.

Did you try to do a "Save As" and make sure to put a period after hosts
before saving? You don't want a .txt extension.

it's real easy to install but i haven't used it yet. sorry i can't answer that. but i had absolutely no problem with installation. also, you get a month free to try it out. free isn't bad and you don't have to stick with it. since web visum isn't working unless you apply the fix these guys are talking about, i can't answer that either. but i disabled it earlier because the "fix" wasn't available yet. probably better to disable it just in case. good luck

You need to run your text editor with elevated permissions.

Type 'notepad' into the search bar, then hit the context menu key
(it's usually the one to the left of the right ctrl key) and select
Run as Administrator.

if you don't have admin rights on the box in question you'll have to
get support staff to do it for you.

personally, a few dollars a month to avoid trying to find someone to solve them visually is worth it! If it works. We shall see.

So this Captcha Monster works? Is it easy to install? And do you have to disable Webvisum for it to work? I think it costs $2.95 per month for the basic plan which lets you solve up to 60 captchas per month.

i just got a free trial of this captcha monster. but there's a catch. it is a monthly service with fee and i'm trying to find out how much. if there is a catch, that's probably it. i'll let folks know if it's something worthy of looking into or not.

Chris Smart <csmart8@...>

why not check it out on its website?
Right on the first page it says: "</body>

It is an easy-to-use, innovative Firefox add-on". Do you see a browser other than FireFox listed?
Nope, neither do I.
