Google Docs
Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>
I just caught a podcast by Kevin Chow (not 100% certain of spelling) with an interesting demonstration of Google Docs. He was using NVDA, but mentioned that Google Docs claims JAWS works with the new Google Docs. Apparently, however, one needs to use Google Chrome and perhaps also something called Google Vox (I think).
Clearly, from the demonstration, Google Docs isn't for prime time, but for those who have to use it, it appears to be useable -- to some extent. Has anyone had success using Google Docs with JAWS 12 or even the dreaded JAWS 13? ############################################################################################################# ANY FEDERAL TAX ADVICE CONTAINED IN THIS MESSAGE SHOULD NOT BE USED OR REFERRED TO IN THE PROMOTING, MARKETING OR RECOMMENDING OF ANY ENTITY, INVESTMENT PLAN OR ARRANGEMENT, AND SUCH ADVICE IS NOT INTENDED OR WRITTEN TO BE USED, AND CANNOT BE USED, BY A TAXPAYER FOR THE PURPOSE OF AVOIDING PENALTIES UNDER THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE. ############################################################################################################# This E-mail message is confidential, is intended only for the named recipient(s) above and may contain information that is privileged, attorney work product or otherwise protected by applicable law. Nope. Didn't work worth a darn with JAWS 13. I refused to accept their kind offer to install Google Chrome. Dave Carlson Tastefully composed and transmitted from somewhere in the Western United States, using a Dell Latitude E6520 and Windows 7

is email addresses that it gives as links. Is crome accessible with jaws? I tryed it a long time ago with jaws 11 I think and back then it wasn't.

According to the Podcast, "Listen and Learn," available on iBlink Radio (for iPhone), the demonstrator reported that Google claims it is accessable with JAWS and VoiceOver.

Chow did a good job, though he was using NVDA. Actually, he was using FireFox and went to docs.google.com The key was to be in "focus" mode, not brows mode. I think "focus" mode for NVDA must be something like forms mode (PC cursor) as opposed to Virtual cursor. Alt plus shift plus grave is supposed to start "screen reader mode." It did not in the demo. Kevin had to tab about 15 times and then hit "screen reader support." I never found this option. Then again, I'm using Internet Explorer. This was apparently a fairly recent demonstration.

I had a student use JAWS 12 with both Chrome and Internet Explorer with

similar results. While they were able to type in the document, they were not able to edit the information. Sharon

Dondi
Hi Everyone,

I would stay away from Google Chrome Or at least think about this. I had some program install Google Chrome without my knowing it and when I uninstalled Chrome it messed up my registry. Hyperlinks didn't work in Excel, Web links in a Outlook email didn't launch IE. They both gave me the same error your computer has restrictions on it see your administrator. This was pretty much a nightmare to finally fix this problem. Dondi We are the music makers, And we are the dreamers of dreams.
