Outlook 2010 search and JAWS 13
Dondi
Hi Everyone,
Is a search in Outlook 2010 with JAWS 13.0.718 even possible? I can't get to any results and I'm not even sure if a search has even happened. When I tab from the search edit box after pressing enter I go to a close the search button. If I turn on the JAWS cursor I can arrow around and I hear what sound like many search options but how I turn these on I have no idea. Does anyone have a working procedure of how to do this? When I do a search with the f3 key, I just type in the thing I want to find

and hit enter. I think I have tabbed through a few times to hear many other options spoken. Let me know if this helps. John

Using Find In MSOutlook2010 Using Jaws Locating All Messages By One Sender:
This will work in any mailbox E.g, in-box, sent-box etc. 1. Press ctrl+shift+the letter "f"=advance-find. 2. Tab three times=from....edit. 3. Type in a sender's first or last name. 4. Press enter. 5. Press the f6key and you are put into the list of messages by the sender you searched for. 6. If you open a message to read it, press escape once to close it. Then move to the next one to read. 7. If you open a message to read and do not wish to read any more, press escape twice and you are placed back in to the original location were the search was started. This means if you were in the in-box when starting the search, pressing escape twice will return you back to the in-box. Pressing escape once will only return you to the list of messages found in the search. *** II. Searching For A Specific Topic In A Subject Field: 1. Press ctrl+shift+the letter "f".2. Type a word that would be found in the subject line you are searching for. 3. Press enter. 4. Press f6 and you are put into the list of messages containing the subject line searched for. 5. If you open a message to read it, press escape once to close it. Then move to the next one to read. 6. If you open a message to read and do not wish to read any more, press escape twice and you are placed back in to the original location were the search was started. This means if you were in the in-box when starting the search, pressing escape twice will return you back to the in-box. Pressing escape once will only return you to the list of messages found in the search. If someone is using MSOutlook2007, Could they let me know if these steps apply?

David, these steps work in Outlook 2003, so I expect the following procedure
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
also applies in Outlook 2007 and 2010. As has been pointed out many times on this list, subject lines don't always correspond to the subject of the message. To find messages containing a key word or phrase, I do the following: 1. Control-shift-f for find a message. 2. Tab once, arrow down once, then shift-tab once. These three actions put focus in an edit field. 3. Type the search string exactly as you expect it to appear in a message and press enter. 4. When JAWS stops verbalizing "Stop" and switches to "Find now button," press the spacebar. (this step also applies to the procedures you outlined. I find it stabilizes the rest of the operation.) 5. Follow the procedures you outline for navigating the list of relevant messages and reading them. Note. As we learned from Ed Marquette, once in a message, use F4 to find the search string.

Dondi, keep in mind that I'm still using Outlook 2003. So in my case:
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
1. Open a message. 2. Press F4. 3. Type the search string and press enter. Focus will land on the string, if it appears in the message. As I recall, Ed said to press shift-F4 to find a second instance of a search string. Try that in Outlook 2010. It hasn't worked for me in Outlook 2003. Instead, I press F4 again, hear the same search string and press enter. Note that once I close a message, the search string disappears, so I have to re-enter it if I want to find that same search string in another message. Also, I don't find Outlook searches as reliable as they are in, say, MS Word or WordPerfect. It could be due to any number of factors, such as slight variations in how the targeted text appears.

This is what I did in Outlook 2010. Press F4, type in search string and press enter. Press escape until I'm back to the email of interest. Press shift+F4, and Outlook will jump to the search string if found. Pressing shift+F4 after this will jump to every instants there is. If I want, I can open any email and do the same search with just shift+F4, because the search string does not clear out. Thanks for all the help this morning. Dondi

-----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounces@lists.the-jdh.com [mailto:jfw-bounces@lists.the-jdh.com] On Behalf Of Dondi Sent: Sunday, February 12, 2012 10:34 AM To: 'The Jaws for Windows support list.' Subject: RE: Outlook 2010 search and JAWS 13 David, these steps work in Outlook 2003, so I expect the following procedure also applies in Outlook 2007 and 2010. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounces@lists.the-jdh.com [mailto:jfw-bounces@lists.the-jdh.com] On Behalf Of David Sent: Sunday, February 12, 2012 7:32 AM To: 'The Jaws for Windows support list.' Subject: RE: Outlook 2010 search and JAWS 13 Hi Adrian, This is what I did in Outlook 2010. Subject: RE: Outlook 2010 search and JAWS 13 Dondi, keep in mind that I'm still using Outlook 2003. So in my case: 1.
