Another key combination question
Dondi
Hi Everyone,
Early this morning I briefly saw a email that said something about a key combination of insert+windows+F4. Of course now I can't find this email anymore. And when I turned on keyboard help and did this combination, to see if JAWS could tell me what this did my computer basically locked up and became unresponsive. Can anyone tell me what this is and what it does? I can tell it does something, but what this is I don't know. Dondi -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I have not tried this; however, remember that insert plus F-4 turns off JAWS.

So, you may have simply turned off speech.

Hello. Insert + windows key + F4 turns off JAWS. This is useful when JAWS is not responding and is not speaking. This turns it off and you can turn it on after some seconds.

Dondi and the list,

I was tempted to suggest that you find out by invoking the key identifier with insert-1 on the number row above the letters. However, I just tried it, and JAWS shut down. It's the first key combination I've tested that works even in this mode.

Could it be that that particular key combination bypasses the question about "Are you sure you want to quit JAWS" and it turns off JAWS immediately? If you have JAWS set to a hot key it shouldn't be any problem bringing it up again, I'd think.

I googled "Insert+Windows+F4" and found the following archive from this email list:

No, there's no cautionary message. JAWS just vanishes. But as you say,

bringing JAWS back isn't a problem.
