PDF Docs on the Web and "Open Parent Document"

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

Recently, as I've attempted to read PDF documents, I encounter pages which simply say "Open Parent Document Button."
The button doesn't seem to do anything, and there appears to be nothing on the page.
Before anyone tells me it is a scanned image, I know that's not the case. When that is the case, JAWS says "Empty Document."
I've never encountered this "Open Parent Document button" before, and I'm not really sure what is going on.
I'm using IE 8. I am pretty sure they installed Adobe 9. This is on my work laptop.
These buttons are annoying, to say the least.

Dave...

Ed,

I vaguely recall this on some PDF and I'm also using Acrobat 9 on XP Pro.
However since I'm using JAWS 12.0.525 I may not be subject to the same
issues that you are seeing. Have you tried using F6 to route through
possible pages to get to an underlying document page?

OK.
Will try the F-6 command.
I generally try to avoid PDF, but sometimes they just cannot be avoided.
I'll definitely give that a try.

Hello ED;

Give the following a try;

the latest version is Adobe Reader X.

You need to disable protected view first to get it to work well with Jaws.

Do the following:

1. From either your desktop or start menu, press enter on AdobeX.

The AdobeX window will open.

2. press ctrl+k=preferences.
Another way to open preferences is after pressing enter on the AdobeX
shortcut, press Alt+E=edit menu, arrow up to preferences, & press enter.

3. When preferences opens press the letter "G"=general, or,you can within
the tree view, arrow up or down until you have General highlighted.
Tab until you find a checkbox called enable protected mode at startup,
uncheck it, choose yes on the warning you will get to continue.

You need to change another setting so, tab until you have General
highlighted again.

4. With General highlighted, press the letter I, until you have Internet
highlighted.

5. Tab to, Display PDF in browser, if this box is checked press the spacebar
to uncheck it.

6. Tab to the okay button, press enter to close preferences & save your
changes, & press Alt + F4 to close Adobe.

Let me know if this helps.

When I talked to FS about this message, the cause was a higher version of Internet Explorer than the version of JAWS on the computer could support. the solution was to go from JAWS 9 to JAWS 12.
