As I said win7 might be around for a while like xp and vista is still around today or microsoft might change their mind basically forcing those updating to get windows 8. I don't think microsoft will make the same mistake with win8 as they did with vista, it caused them to much damage in fact that's why a lot of people is still on xp because there's this stigma about newer windows versions and that was created by vista.

It has nothing to do with 7, which I would probably enjoy, from all I've read; it has everything to do with losing a convenient configuration to a total reformat. I think Tech Republic had a piece a while back on an upgrade scheme involving a dual boot arrangement. Once there, after making sure everything works, simply remove the old OS. I personally don't know why people is still clinging to xp. I never had problems with windows 7 and have been using it since its beta days and it's really not such a big learning curve. If I were you guys rather upgrade to windows 7 now before 8 comes out because right now not even jaws 13 will work with windows 8 not even mentioning older jaws versions and once windows 8 is out it might be difficult to get hold of a copy of 7. I look at it this way, the world is moving on, so should I. Adapt or die if technology moves on we as disabled people can't stay behind. Plus, one of these days new programs will start having problems running on xp systems, the developers won't put in effort to make it work on a old windows version, if it works cool but if not they won't brake their backs in trying to make it work.

Hello, everyone.
In a recent post, I believe Adrian said the following:
"Many listers have reported flaws in JAWS 12, possibly because it is more directed to Windows 7 than XP. ... I still use XP Pro, and the warnings on this list have convinced me to stay with JAWS
11,
even
though my SMA entitles me to JAWS 12."
The timing for this comment couldn't have been better in my case.
Although this is likely to change soon as my University switches us all completely over to Windows 7, my desktop at work is still an XP machine, and still has Jaws 11. The back-up PC I have at home is an XP machine, and that too has Jaws 11.
So, is the collective wisdom of the group to keep things as they are now on the XP machines, rather than installing Jaws 12 which seems to be geared more to Windows 7?
If this is true, you guys have just saved me some head-aches with my remaining XP computers, and I thank you sincerely for that.
I'll save my headaches for installing Jaws 12 on the new Windows 7 laptop the University will give me this week. (smile)

If HP offered an OEM version, I might consider that, but there's no such animal.

(smile)

I'm hoping Windows 8 will be accessible when it's finally officially released. I don't know. Have you heard anything one way or the other? I don't think we'll have too much trouble getting Win 7, especially if there's no good access for 8.

To me, the only reasons to upgrade are if you're running something that doesn't work well on XP, or buying a new computer, because Unless you build it yourself, it will come with an OS, and that will be 7. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lisle, Ted (CHFS DMS)" <Ted.Lisle@ky.gov> To: "The Jaws for Windows support list." <jfw@lists.the-jdh.com> Sent: Friday, October 21, 2011 10:09 AM Subject: RE: What to do about XP machines I don't feel a burning need to explain my buying decisions, but I guess I figure if it's not broken don't fix it.

(smile)

Hi, I'll chime in on this one. I use JAWS 12 build 1170 on my XP Pro box here at home and it's working fine for me. It's very stable. Are there quirks? Oh yeah, definitely, but I can live with them; none of them are showstoppers by any means. I've still got Office 2003 on this one and it works okay with version 12, too. My laptop and the machines that I use in the lab at work are all running Windows 7 with either Office 2007 or Office 2010, and I see odd behaviors that are more serious. For example, In Word, if I switch to the JAWS cursor while in a document, I can't use normal reading commands; the JAWS cursor just doesn't track right. I haven't nailed down why that's happening, but let me tell you, when I'm trying to show a student the differences between how the PC and JAWS cursors are supposed to act, that kind of weird behavior is hard to explain away other than to say that it's just some sort of mysterious JAWS fluke, and that's not cool. Anybody got an answer to that one? Tech support sure didn't. Hmmm.
Tom

Hello, everyone.
In a recent post, I believe Adrian said the following:
"Many listers have reported flaws in JAWS 12, possibly because it is more directed to Windows 7 than XP. ... I still use XP Pro, and the warnings on this list have convinced me to stay with JAWS 11, even
though my SMA entitles me to JAWS 12."
(smile)

(smile)
