Hi,
I'm running windows 7 and jaws 12. I'm looking for a free accessible
comprehensive security program that blocks viruses, spyware, etc. Any
suggestions?
Thanks!

Microsoft Security Escentials. Meets all of your requirements, and well,
doesn't bust your system in several different places. Just a thought.

I would recommend,
Microsoft security essentials,

Go to the following link and choose the correct operating system,
Either the 32 or 64 bit download.

Is Microsoft Security Essentials better than Avast, or does it really replace a Virus protection program. I've heard good and bad things about it, and have considered putting it on my system.

Avast is highly inaccessible, I've found. That, and it's a little bit too
jumpy for my tastes. Often recognizes things as infections that, well,
aren't. Including components of a competing screenreader that was removed
for another reason.

Installing MSE makes Windows Defender redundant, and so it will be automatically disabled during the MSE installation procedure.

Have you tried Microsoft Security Esentials? I believe it is included with Windows 7. It's free and works fine.
If you want a second one for backup or just to feel more safe, Antibytes Anti-Malware is also free and accessible.

I also like AVG, but be warned that the installer has lately become screen reader unfriendly. I may try the Microsoft product if this continues. As a back up to AVG, I run occasional scans with MalwareBytes. Between these 2, and common sense like not clicking email links, I've had no malware problems.
