I received this announcement from you on our list, shared by one of our subscribers. I wonder why you didn't post a similar message on our list? Jfw@... Also my inputs do not lean in the direction that you are suggesting in your message. I for one would much rather FS focus on getting JAWS more stable with critical applications than to further do repairs on ResearchIt capability to harvest sports scores. I have written to FS Support on a number of occasions on bugs that have cropped up in various versions of JAWS, most notably in JAWS 12 where the update after 12.0.525 caused Excel 2007 to crash. I reported this and the "fix" did not work at all. I've continued to stick with 12.0.525 as a result so I can get my work done. Further I've pointed out that the implementation of the virtual ribbon in Excel, Word, and Outlook is flawed and inconsistent w/r the QAT. In Excel the QAT works differently in virtual ribbon mode than with Outlook and Word. Moreover a few key Excel JAWS shortcuts were removed (intentionally? accidentally?) from the .JKM file in version 12 so that I could no longer read the top 4 column cells. Those keystrokes were given over to the QAT, I believed. I had to copy the script functions from a JAWS 11 .JSS filed and paste into the JAWS 12 file and recompile, and then reassign the Ctrl+Shift+1, 2, 3, and 4 keys. That type of work should not have been necessary for the end user to do. I am so imbued with the strength of using the QAT that I keep the virtual ribbon turned off now. I continue to improve on using the ribbon and only turn on VR when I just can't find a function. Then it's off again. I think FS needs to take a long look with a wide perspective, on the Office applications, the QAT, and the VR to come up with a consistent approach to having them all work together, and all work the same. Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS updated, regarding the MLB problems in Research It Greetings all, Nobody is more disappointed to have lost the MLB option in Research It more than I am. Especially when you consider the tight race in the American League East where my Sox are doing battle once again with the Yanks and the Rays. Anyway, here is the scoop on what has happened. About a week or 10 days ago, ESPN made modifications to how they expose sports results in an effort to block many different products that had been tapping into ESPN to get the info in real time and display it. We believe this was done in an effort to get more organizations to purchase access to the data and prevent anyone from getting it otherwise. This will not only impact MLB on Research It, but all of the sports. We have been investigating the MLB site itself and many other places like YAHOO but so far, have not found any site that exposes the information away that will work. We are also reaching out to ESPN and trying to explain who we are and what we are doing in order to see if we can get them to work with us. If any of you who use Research It to get access to daily scores would be willing, please write to them at: https://r.espn.go.com/members/contact/index Please be polite and remember, they are not targeting JAWS and Research It when they make these changes. It would be helpful to explain to them how beneficial it has been to use Research It in order to get the scores and schedules without having to weed through all the extra information presented on very busy web pages. I'm sure that together, we can all work this out and FS will get this fixed and working again as quickly as possible. Ken, I talked with someone from FS about the MLB scores feature not working, and they told me that ESPN was going to charge them to continue using them, so they are now looking for someone else. They say they're working on fixing the problem, but the scores feature hasn't worked in a month now. Doesn't appear they're in a big hurry. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ken lawrence" <kenlawrence124@...> To: "The Jaws for Windows support list." <jfw@...> Sent: Thursday, July 14, 2011 11:50 AM Subject: research isn't clicking the full forecast link in weather.
