Thank goodness I still have Firefox 3.6, which I will hang onto forever, if that's the only way I can still use Webvisum. I guess the fine folks at Mozilla really don't give a rat's ass about accessibility.

Hi list sorry to report this but, we may not ever have it back. webvisum was disabled the other day when Firefox 5 was installed. it seems mozilla has decided that they will now release new versions of firefox every two months. the word on the NFB graphic user interface list is that webvisum will likely give up trying to update it since there is likely no way for them to ever keep up with this new timetable. Thank you mozilla for caring so much to protect the internet from us dangerous blind hackers/spammers. Webvisum sent me a new password; I logged in with the new password and tried once again to install the plugin, but still I can't get it to work--I get the "unavailable" message following the "install button" prompt. Is there an issue with my system or browser security settings, or do I actually need an invitation code in addition to the password? Do I need to upgrade Firefox to use this copy of the plugin? Thanks.

there is a spot, pardon a link where you can fill out a "request" and get an invitation to web visum, if you remember your address and sign in password (the same ones you input into web visum so it could automatically sign in) you can go and download it again, I would use revo uninstaller to pull out the old web visum, and then reinstall a new copy.

or at worst case, contact me again and I will get you an invite since I remember both my sign in and my password

Good morning. I'm sending this to you individuals because the JFW list seems to be down right now.
Yesterday I sent this to the Webvisum Discuss listserv and subscribed to their mailing list, but I suspect they may be very slow to respond. If I don't hear from them in a week or so, what do I do with Web sites that require verification? I could try Solona but not sure if that works with Firefox, or if it can handle captchas and images as efficiently as Webvisum. Thanks for your feedback.

Subject: Webvisum plugin lost

Hi all. Recently I've been reading some posts regarding updating to the latest version of Firefox, and that Webvisum hadn't released an update for that version. For some time I've been able to use it on my current version of Firefox 3.6. Someone suggested I download a portable version of Firefox 5 to see how it worked and whether or not Webvisum worked with it. Another post explained a work around for accessing Webvisum with Firefox 5.0, by going to the install.rdf file and changing the max number from 4 to 5. I did this and saved the change, then downloaded the portable Firefox 5, but this created an error message in Firefox 3 saying the file wasn't well-formed or something. Webvisum not only didn't work on the portable Firefox, but now it no longer works on Firefox version 3, and I also deleted the install file for Webvisum and the plugin is no longer there.
Can you suggest a way to get a new plugin for Webvisum to download again to Firefox 3? I'm already logged in, but can't find a link to download the plugin. I erroneously sent a request for an invitation but discovered that's not necessary if I know my username and password. Thanks for your assistance.

I too still have Firefox 3 but disabled Webvisum trying to install the portable Firefox 5, or changing the install.rdf file for Webvisum, then deleting that file. Downloading the plugin from the Webvisum site didn't get it working either.

The possible loss of Webvisum is a bummer, but I'm more curious to see how
Jaws keeps up with the spead up cycle of Mozilla product updates. They just
put out a new Thunderbird yesterday and Firefox 6 is scheduled for release
sometime next month.

Good morning. I'm sending this to you individuals because the JFW
list seems to be down right now.
Yesterday I sent this to the Webvisum Discuss listserv and subscribed
to their mailing list, but I suspect they may be very slow to respond. If
I don't hear from them in a week or so, what do I do with Web sites that
require verification? I could try Solona but not sure if that works with
Firefox, or if it can handle captchas and images as efficiently as
Webvisum. Thanks for your feedback.

Subject: Webvisum plugin lost

Hi all. Recently I've been reading some posts regarding updating to
the latest version of Firefox, and that Webvisum hadn't released an update
for that version. For some time I've been able to use it on my current
version of Firefox 3.6. Someone suggested I download a portable version
of Firefox 5 to see how it worked and whether or not Webvisum worked with
it. Another post explained a work around for accessing Webvisum with
Firefox 5.0, by going to the install.rdf file and changing the max number
from 4 to 5. I did this and saved the change, then downloaded the
portable Firefox 5, but this created an error message in Firefox 3 saying
the file wasn't well-formed or something. Webvisum not only didn't work
on the portable Firefox, but now it no longer works on Firefox version 3,
and I also deleted the install file for Webvisum and the plugin is no
longer there.
Can you suggest a way to get a new plugin for Webvisum to download
again to Firefox 3? I'm already logged in, but can't find a link to
download the plugin. I erroneously sent a request for an invitation but
discovered that's not necessary if I know my username and password.
Thanks for your assistance.

Hithis may be a bit off topic but if they cant keep up with Fire Fox I am wondering when and if they will get Windows Live mail more accessible so you know you have new emails outlook express used to say unread message when you came across one you had not opened. Let us see what version 13 brings.
We are not the only screen reader to experience this problem it could be a Microsoft issue.

The possible loss of Webvisum is a bummer, but I'm more curious to see how
Jaws keeps up with the spead up cycle of Mozilla product updates. They just
put out a new Thunderbird yesterday and Firefox 6 is scheduled for release
sometime next month.

Hi list sorry to report this but, we may not ever have it back. webvisum
was disabled the other day when Firefox 5 was installed. it seems mozilla
has decided that they will now release new versions of firefox every two
months. the word on the NFB graphic user interface list is that webvisum
will likely give up trying to update it since there is likely no way for
them to ever keep up with this new timetable. Thank you mozilla for
caring so much to protect the internet from us dangerous blind
hackers/spammers. I wouldn't get my hopes up for a screen reader to have
it built in since if they can do that, the real spammers would be able to
do it to so that would defeat the whole need for capcha.

Sorry, I thought the list would have some experts to suggest possible solutions. I found that submitting comments to Mozilla's support also requires visual confirmation/verification, so that wouldn't help things. Is there another blind-friendly list to discuss this with that won't take verification to log in or post comments? Webvisum is very busy and slow to respond. Thanks anyone.

Douglas, unless the moderators tell you otherwise, ignore what you were told
here. Yesterday I got myself onto the Webvisum list to ask for more definite
answers, but so far without success. I think yesterday's Webvisum thread was
based on rumor more than fact.

How can I get information on the Webvisum list? Thanks.

Marsha

Adrian Spratt

I went to
www.webvisum.org
If I remember correctly, there's a "contact us" link on the homepage. On
the contacts page itself, they urge us to join their list and provide
instructions. So far no one from the organization has responded to my query,
but a few Webvisum users have said Webvisum can't be made to work with FF5.
I'm hoping a Webvisum official will post to dispel rumors about abandoning
the application. I will post any follow-up here.

that one you would have to take to a group, I'd ask it on both the blind
geek zone and/or the list provided by web visum I'm having some odd
difficulties with my current system and can't get web visum to run
correctly here on my main, but it loaded and ran fine on my secondary and
tertiary computers, so I don't have a good answer for you!

sorry,

Webvisum sent me a new password; I logged in with the new password and
tried once again to install the plugin, but still I can't get it to
work--I get the "unavailable" message following the "install button"
prompt. Is there an issue with my system or browser security settings, or
do I actually need an invitation code in addition to the password? Do I
need to upgrade Firefox to use this copy of the plugin? Thanks.

there is a spot, pardon a link where you can fill out a "request" and
get an invitation to web visum, if you remember your address and sign in
password (the same ones you input into web visum so it could automatically
sign in) you can go and download it again, I would use revo uninstaller to
pull out the old web visum, and then reinstall a new copy.

or at worst case, contact me again and I will get you an invite since I
remember both my sign in and my password
