Hi,

Fair enough. I wonder why the inconsistency?

Hi Steve,

By your email it sounds like you are in the UK. It is quite possible that the UK Amazon site just as the canadian site is more accessible in that respect. I have no problems checking that checkbox here on Amacon.ca, it seems that Amazon.com is where people are having issues.

Hi,

Well Bypass means just that. So considering the space bar is used to tick a box, whether a screen reader is loaded or not, I just figured that telling JAWS to ignore the next keypress would work.

Sometimes JAWS is not so smart about passing keys through to an application, so we have to give it a little helping hand.

That bypass key is often not known about, or forgotten by people, and it really saves your bacon sometimes.

Hi,

Yeah I've had this problem too, although its not a perfect solution
the only way round this I've found is to shut down jaws and open
NVDA, using NVDA you can then select the tick box , plus the drop
down menu which asks for the reason for the return then click the
next/continue button, then when on the next page you can shut down
NVDA and open jaws and continue from there on in with jaws. Like I
said its not a perfect solution, but it gets the job done none the
less. Hope this helps

I am using JAWS 18 and Windows 7. I am trying to return an item
bought through Amazon, and cannot seem to get past where it wants you
to check the box indicating the item I want to return. JAWS just
keeps saying "Checkbox not checked". Pressing the spacebar does not change what JAWS says.

I will probably end up calling Amazon accessibility, but was
wondering if anyone else has had luck returning an item recently. I
tried both IE and Chrome.

Hi,

Yeah I've had this problem too, although its not a perfect solution the only
way round this I've found is to shut down jaws and open NVDA, using NVDA you
can then select the tick box , plus the drop down menu which asks for the
reason for the return then click the next/continue button, then when on the
next page you can shut down NVDA and open jaws and continue from there on
in with jaws. Like I said its not a perfect solution, but it gets the job
done none the less. Hope this helps

Hi Bill,

I have found I don't need to route the JAWS cursor, I just click when the
virtual cursor is focused on the radio button. The virtual cursor is
tracked by the mouse by default.

Hi Robin,

Try left mouse clicking on that radio button then. You don't need to route
the JAWS cursor, since the mouse tracks your virtual cursor.

Hi,

To select the tick box with JAWS, simply press the bypass key, JAWS key+3
then space bar. This will tick it.

All the best

I am using JAWS 18 and Windows 7. I am trying to return an item bought
through Amazon, and cannot seem to get past where it wants you to check the
box indicating the item I want to return. JAWS just keeps saying "Checkbox
not checked". Pressing the spacebar does not change what JAWS says.

I will probably end up calling Amazon accessibility, but was wondering if
anyone else has had luck returning an item recently. I tried both IE and
Chrome.

Hi,
Interestingly that it isn't working for you. Dovetailing on this a bit there's a radio button that isn't operational for me with any screen reader at the
www.usps.com
site and I thought perhaps this method might work on it by chance but sadly it failed there too.
Oh well thanks for something to try anyway.

Ok, well I actually went in and tried this, and I'm afraid it still doesn't work here. JAWS still reports it as unchecked.

Steve, I'd be interested in hooking up with you on skype sometime.  Maybe we could hook up off list?

Just a question. How did you figure out that the key combination would
work? Trial and error or something else. Just curious?

Just another quick question Steve. Is there anywhere where one can find some of these long lost tips and tricks?  I'd really be interested and I think others would be too.  Thanks

All the best
