Moderated Jaws and the MLB TV/Gameday Audio controls

Dennis Brown

Does anyone have any tips on setting the Major League Baseball TV Gameday Audio site to work better with speech?
The controls are Unlabled0 button, Unlabeled1 button, Unlabeled0 button, etc.
And it updates about every 15 seconds.
When I set place markers, they don’t work the next time I’m on the site.
Whenever I’m on the MLB.com site itself, not the Gameday audio site, each keystroke takes around 15 seconds to execute, such as up arrow, down arrow, Tab, etc.
The Gameday audio page worked fine until they combined it with the MLB TV page
I’m using the latest JAWS and IE11 with Windows 10.
Thanks,
Dennis

It was the ACB that took on the MLB site and made it accessible, until this year.  I guess the ACB will have to get back on their case again--maybe?

if you are listening to a live game the buttons don't do anything. if you are listening to an archived game the 0 button is pause and play, the 1 button is rewind and the 2 button is forward. in settings i have the two choices that are there turned off so there isn't a bunch of stats on the screen. hope this helps.

Hi,

For me the buttons do work during a live game to be able to rewind, pause and such.

I’ve also reported the problems to MLB Accessibility via phone to 866-239-1284 and  email to 'access@...'.

They have  a help article that is out of date and needing updating at https://www.mlb.com/live-stream-games/help-center/gameday-how-can-i-reach-the-accessible-mlb-gameday-audio-player-page.

MLB’s accessibility page is at:

Until these problems are corrected, you might be able to adjust the volume outside the app with the Windows volume control.  For example on Win10 I enter sndvol into the run dialog and then locate the volume setting for the web browser I’m using.  I lower the volume specific to that program.

I found that if I set a place marker for the “Broadcast button”, then up arrow to “unlabeled0 button”, I can hit space and mute and unmute the game.  I mute it between innings, so I don’t have to listen to the ads.
Jaws keeps updating the screen, so I keep hearing “ 1 Region, 6 headings, and 64 links” about every 30 seconds.
I wrote a script that toggles speech off and on with a press of the F12 key, so I don’t have to listen to that.  Disabling screen updates doesn’t seem to work consistently.

I'm not sure what your question is.  I figure the first unlabeled 0 button is volume up, the unlabeled 1 button is volume down, and the next unlabeled button I know to be the pause button because it works as such by pressing space bar or enter.  However, the volume buttons, if that is what they are, don't seem to do anything.  I sent an email to the accessibility site address someone sent.  I suggest all blind persons do the same, expressing concern and disappointment at the mess they've made of the site this year.

Hi, Maria. If you don’t want the page to refresh,

1. Press the JAWSkey plus V to enter quick settings.

2. In the search box, type the word refresh.

3. Arrow down to Page refresh.

4. Press the SPACE BAR until it says Page refresh off.

5. TAB to OK, and press ENTER.

Dennis and All,

I have two additional tips for accessing MLB TV with JAWS. First, the site is no longer optimized for Internet Explorer. When I use IE I get the same sluggish performance Dennis gets, but when I use Chrome, everything loads much faster. MLB customer service confirmed that IE is no longer supported.

Second, I have found it much easier to interact with media players generally by turning off the virtual cursor by pressing JAWS key plus z (insert z in my case and by default). When the virtual cursor is off, you can tab through the page elements, and once you land inside the media player, the spacebar will toggle play/pause, the up and down arrow keys will adjust the volume, and the left and right arrows will rewind and fast forward, respectively. Please let us know if turning off the virtual cursor has this effect in the MLB TV media player.

Best,

Michal

The page won’t refresh anymore.

As I have said before, once I enter on the game I want, by pressing the b for buttons, I get to the unlabeled volume and pause buttons, where the pause button seem to work.  By doing this, the page doesn't seem to keep on refreshing, but if it does, you can always move away from the page so as not to hear it refreshing any longer.

Thanks,

Dennis

if you are listening to a live game the buttons don't do anything. if you are listening to an archived game the 0 button is pause and play, the 1 button is rewind and the 2 button is forward. in settings i have the two choices that are there turned off so there isn't a bunch of stats on the screen. hope this helps.

Thanks,

Dennis
