104 US layout wireless keyboard

Dave Durber

Hello everyone:

My trusty Logitech wireless keyboard stopped working about 2 months ago, therefore, I am on the look out for a replacement.

I searched on the internet for a 104 US layout wireless keyboard, excluding any keys which may be located above the F1 to F12 keys. While the searches resulted in several, I cannot make up my mind which one to choose.

Are there any members on the list who are using a 104 US layout wireless keyboard. If there are, I would be interested, in knowing the make and model and if the keys have a good tactile feel and whether the keys have a mechanical or electronic action.

I look forward to any and all information.

Dave

I've not noticed anything different, it still alerts me, if I let it, to who leaves, or joins. I have JAWS running through a separate audio channel.

I haven't made a single update to my system--not even a Windows update--in over two weeks. The last Zoom update was maybe a month ago.
It's all very odd indeed.

Try Insert+Space, Z to switch to the default JAWS configuration, then perform a test. If the problem goes away, it's something in your JAWS configuration.

Chrome and Favourites

Jim L

Heya folks,

Is anyone else having the weird thing within Chrome and Favourites when clicking on Bookmarks and right cursor and it just open a folder amongst a list of my favourites as before the latest Jaws update it would let me decide and scroll down to what I am after, is there a setting I need to change?

Cheers,

Jim

Hi marty this is paul faucheux. I would suggest using an amazon device instead of trying to use windows 10 and the desktop app. From the sound of things I would suggest you write or call amazon at 1-800-273-6239 and tell them that they need to design there app on windows using accessibility standards.

Hello,  I just received an offer from Amazon Prime for a $15 credit if I upload photos to Amazon Photos.  I have downloaded the desktop ap for Amazon Photos and using windows 10, JAWS 21 and Google Chrome, I get nothing spoken when trying to navigate this program.  Are any of you using Amazon Photos on a PC and have any suggestions for me as to how to upload pictures?

Hi,

The search is a button, not an edit box.

So if you press B from the home page, you will hear Search Button. Press space on that and it will expand to an edit box.

All the best

Re: Help with JAWS and Math Type

Cohn, Jonathan

Hello,
Either the May or July release of JAWS 2021 added a feature to help with working with math and Word documents, especially if you are a braille user.
Also, I think MathTYpe is supposed to be picked up by the math reader in JAWS where you can read a complex equation part by part using left and right to go to adjacent parts, and down to get a more detailed view of the current part.
Probably easier to listen to this being done then to try and describe it, but I would suggest you look at the JAWS training site and see if they have tutorials to help.

Dear list

I need assistance with reading MS Word documents containing Math Type

reading, or recognising them as a single object/graphic) and I can't
figure out why. To avoid a protracted exchange on this list, it might
be best to take the conversation to email if there is someone who is
able to assist. I'm quite desperate as I have an MBA class block
commencing in three weeks with a wonderful accounting module thrown
in. Please drop me a line or respond on this list if you are able to
assist--I'd be hugely indebted.

Re: How to locate a missing file

Richard Justice

Hi Dave,
What you see in the list view in the Recent folder are merely shortcuts, and not treated as temporary files.
These shortcuts can be safely deleted without any harm to the system or your personal files
keep in mind that this is just a history of recently accessed files, folders and locations.
Depending on which version of Windows you are using, there may be options for clearing the list automatically, but I have not looked into them.
I have shortcuts to items I access on a regular basis, so I don't
use the recent folder.

Mike and others,
The Recent folder has been around since at least Windows 98, and the contents are only shortcuts to the files, folders, and urls that you have accessed.
You can choose not to use the recent folder if you wish, and if there are no items being displayed in this folder,
it is not
necessarily a fault of the operating system, but a settings change by the user.
The easiest way to get to the folder, is to type the following in the run dialogue:

recent

and press enter.
Once in the folder select one of the entries, and then open the properties of that entry, and you will see that it is a shortcut
and that at least in Windows 10 the only tab in this dialogue is the shortcut tab.
Below is an url that has information about the Recent folder.

Rick

Hi Brian,

To add to what you've said and please tell me if this is correct or not, I need to have Quick Access enabled / employed for the, " symbolic links", to be stored in the Recent Files folder along with being told how many in Word.  I've never used Quick Access so I believe this is why I don't have anything stored there.  Thanks much.

Stay safe & take care.  Mike.
Just once, I want a username and password prompt to say:  "Close Enough!"

Mike,

That's because you don't.  The recent files list is a Windows feature and Recent Files gets populated based on exactly which files you've been working with most recently.  As Sharon's message indicates, there can be quite a few because you can set the length of the "recent files list" available in programs such as MS-Word, etc.

But you don't directly manage Recent Files, Windows does, and I'll bet my bottom dollar that no actual file ever gets stored there, just symbolic links to files.

For all practical intents and purposes, yes.  The contents of Recent Files changes constantly as various files are accessed and older entries do get "pushed out."

But the aging off algorithm is not straightforward and is almost certainly dependent on what programs are in use and what length the jump/recent files lists for each are set to.

As has already been mentioned, if you want to do your own clean up in the Recent Files folder it's perfectly safe to do so.  The worst thing you might do is shorten the list of recent files shown in a given program since some of the items used to construct that will no longer be present.

Personally, I think it's much easier, and more sensible, to use either Windows Search or Search Everything to find files that have "gone missing."  There are occasions, particularly if you cut/paste or move by accident in File Explorer, where a Recent Files entry does not get created.  A Windows Search using the docs: or file: operator to limit the search to file names or using a utility like Search Everything does find those.  And the latter is dirt simple to use and the former not all that difficult, either.
