I am using JAWS 2019 under Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.  In Outlook 2007, I used to be able to tab from my mailbox list view (listing all the emails therein) to the tree view showing all my various mailboxes (e.g., sent, deleted, drafts, etc.).  I think this tree view is called the “navigation pane.”  Now, in Outlook 2016 as I tab from the list view it seems only to go to the “search pane.”  Strangely, somehow I was able to tab into the navigation pane previously, but not anymore.  Now, to get to the navigation pane I must cycle through F6.

Re: Jaws 2019 dowload trouble

 

I have been using Security Essentials in Windows 7 ever since it became available and in Windows 10 this now is Windows Defender.
Before then, in the early 2000's I used Eset NOD32, but for the last 10years or so I see no point in free or paid third party solutions. I have 4 works PC's where employees work and need to go online as well as my laptop at home. As long as you make sure you keep Windows updated and use common sense when it comes to clicking on links in emails or opening attachments you get you'll be just fine, I think I once had some sort of virus back in the late 90's and it wasn't anything major, but if you click on something whichinstalls software that locks your computer as in where you fall victim to one of those scams where then you need to pay somebody to unlock it again I doubt that most anti virus software will make a difference.
The nice thing with Windows Defender is that it's just there, I never do anything in terms of consciously updating it, I rarely run deliberate scans and it never seems to really interfere with anything like what you just described.

I rely on either JAWS or NVDA because I can't make out anything on
screen. I find it nearly impossible to adjust settings and perform a
scan (and probably other tasks sighted users can successfully use that I
haven't been able to try) because the information on it's UI is very
garbled (no seperation between words to make sense of what the on screen
information is). I complained a few times but they don't seem to
understand (or care) even though I urged them to have them install NVDA
and try to set settings and use Internet Security to see what frustrates
me. but they just don't understand. yes, I disabled graphics according
to their directions, but my frustration remains because disabling
graphics does not resolve the garbled on screen information. anybody
have a suggestion on resolving my issue?

I allow them to save in the usual location, except that I create a folder called General, and put everything under that. If I want subfolders, I put them under General. This way, if there are other folders at the same level as General, I can delete them, knowing they're not important to me.

If you do a control-A and select all, you will be told how many files are selected and it will be the correct number.

That's the way it has been ever since I was forced to switch to JAWS from Window-Eyes. You can't get an accurate count.

I have a folder which has over 200 files in it and JAWS always says so-many of 45.

I did some testing about this problem today, and it seems that if your
view is set to Details, that's where the problem rears its ugly head.
List view appears to work correctly.

Hi,

 

Not a lot of people know that the built in windows disk cleanup as some additional features which you can’t see when running  disk clean up in the usual way. The below options have been in windows I think since xp, maybe even longer and its completely accessible with Jaws, I’ve always been surprised that windows don’t add these options to their standard disk cleanup tool, but I guess they are advance settings so don’t want the average user deleting stuff they might later want. So that being said  I should probably point out to anyone using the extended disk cleaner settings I mention below to only delete stuff you know you don’t want/need. So its really easy to access just go to run and type the following

 

cleanmgr sageset:99

 

This brings up the standard disk cleanup   interface but with more options than just standard disk clean up. You select what you want it to clean up and click ok, which closes the disk cleanup window, then go to run again and then this time type the following to run disk cleanup with the settings you just selected

 

cleanmgr sagerun:99

           You are correct in your assessment of registry cleaners in general, not just CCleaner's (which, at least, must be intentionally run as it's not a part of default cleaning).  I know of no one who's a "tech geek" with any depth of experience who recommends using these.

            For those that are looking for a comprehensive junk file cleaner I'd suggest you take a look at Singular Labs' System Ninja.  I cannot swear that it is accessible, but given both its interface style and its length of remaining relatively unchanged I'd strongly suspect it will be.  At any rate, for personal use it's free so the readership here can certainly download, assess accessibility, and report back.
