Office 2019 vs Office 365
Mark Arnold ABG
List,
I am considering purchasing one of the two programs. From a JFW accessibility position, are there any pros and cons between the 2019 and 365 programs?
Thanks, Mark

Re: having trouble with links
Jim Ruby
Hi, I am having the same problem on gmail. I If I type my email and just press enter on the send button the email will send, but jaws will not update so it looks like the email is not sent, but if I move the cursor to the second or third letter on the button it works. however if I continue to scroll down and try and hit the link to go back to the mail box I am working in I can never get that to work. I'm using gmail in html with ms edge with latest jaws 2021.
Thanks

Re: Forms mode: your preferences

I use automatic out of habit, but also, because usually when I enter my home page, which is Google, I want to start at the Search Box, which is a form field, and I want it to be ready to accept input without having to press ENTER on the edit field.

When it comes to forms mode, what are your preferences for settings: manual, automatic, semi-automatic? And any particular reasons for your preference? Mine is set to automatic but I'm now wondering if there might be something better. I'd like to hear others have to say, while I experiment.

Hi, Kevin. There is no longer a separate 32 and 64-bit installer for JAWS. It is all contained in one installer. Jim is getting an error which just says, "Install Failed".
One thing Jim neglected to tell you is that There is an entry for JAWS 21 under programs and Features with nothing in it, and it won't uninstall.

Hi.
Something to check is whether you have the 32 or 64 bit version of the installer, and make sure it matches your Windows OS.

What error are you getting?
Have you tried unloading Jaws 2019 with insert+f4 and running Narrator while you install 2021? ,

I wrote to FS, and they gave me a case number, and I haven't heard from them since. Since I am authorized to have it, why won't it installs? Re: am I losing my mind or is we coding really that different by browser?
Robin,
If they're really fussy about USB drives, then ask you IT department to make a USB drive with a portable copy of NVDA on it for your use. They can contact NVAccess, if needed, if they have any concerns about NVDA in your environment. It's definitely used in business settings, and any screen reader user, no matter what their favorite and/or primary screen reader may be, needs to have a secondary that they can use in a pinch, and where only knowledge of the "most commonly used by me" commands is really needed. It's a blessing that pretty much all the screen readers have converged around a reasonably "standard" set of commands, and since JAWS came first it is the model that all others followed, and as far as command structure goes, emulated, sometimes very closely for many functions. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.

If CONTROL plus W doesn't close out the browser, it means that the browser has locked up, and as you said, your only option is to close out all tasks under Google Chrome.

Hi Bill When google chrome m.facebook.com page is still open Are you telling me that alt + F4 doesn’t close out the page browser ? Because I always press alt + F4 to close out google chrome m.facebook.com but when I press alt + F4 google chrome m.facebook.com won’t close out because the google chrome m.facebook.com page is stucked and won’t close out that’s why I went to task manager to task it to see if it will task google chrome then press spacebar the google chrome m.facebook.com still opens I try ctrl + w it won’t close out the page browser If any browser page is stucked and can’t close out then What would you do to get google chrome to close out? Hi, Addison. When ALT plus F4 doesn't close a browser, in most cases, try CONTROL plus W.

Hi Bill OK if it suppose to say close in all then when I was on google chrome with m.facebook.com on profile page when I come back to coputer 20 minute later then I press f5 to fresh the page it will not fresh the page so I press alt - f4 to try to close out google chrome profile on m.facebook.com so the page is stucked up and won’t close out the page so I went to task manager page then arrow down to google chrome close then press tab key 2 time to task button press enter and press alt –f4 to close out task manager after task manager page close out google chrome profile on m.facebook.com still open then I press alt –f4 again it will not close out google chrome profile m.facebook.com so I had to restart the computer . Why is that? Addison
From: main@jfw.groups.io [mailto:main@jfw.groups.io] On Behalf Of Bill White
Hi, Addison. Yes, it is supposed to say closed. To open the category in Task Manager, press the Right Arrow, and you may find several tasks under this one category. It says "Closed" in the same manner as when you are exploring the Files and Folders tree under Windows Explorer. It is not saying that the program is closed, it is saying that the entry for that item is closed and must be expanded with the Right Arrow.

Yep. Browsers certainly do see different things. could you use NVDA from a flash drive instead of installing it on the computer???

Hi, Shirley.
I’m not having this problem but I did some time ago. Another lister, Debby Hill, suggested moving the cursor to the second character of the link, and it worked. It may be a workaround, but if it works for you, it should alleviate some frustration.

Hi Group:
Since I installed the JAWS 2021 version, I have started having trouble opening links. At first I noticed it with Windows Mail, but now it happens on websites. Do any of you have the same issues? Is this something connected with the latest update? Or is it my computer? It’s getting frustrating.
I’m using a desktop with Windows 10 and the latest JAWS.
Can anyone help?

Thanks for the additional ideas, Brian. I can plug a USB into my laptop, but it gets screened heavily. I’ll see if I can figure out making a mobile NVDA to see if it will work. Didn’t even think about Narrator. I’ll give that a try, too, especially now that I have the new Edge installed, which I’d imagine Narrator supports.
