Windows Laptop Sleep Problem Solved

Tom Behler

               Hello, everyone.

First of all, I want to sincerely thank those on the list who responded to my sleep function issue with my Windows 7 laptop.  I have saved the various suggestions I received for future reference.

It is mysterious to me how these problems emerge.

Equally mysterious is the fact that within the past day or so, the problem appears to have corrected itself, with no further action on my part.

The whole issue continues to baffle me, but I’ll take the positive end result and move on.

Again, thanks to everyone for the assistance.

Dr.  Tom Behler from Michigan

Works just fine. Once you get signed in, you'll never need to reopen the program. Dropbox appears as a folder on the Desktop. You only need the program to sign in, change what folders get synced to that particular machine, where the folder is store--i.e., what disk drive, and one or two other things. Otherwise, it's just another Windows/File Explorer folder.

Re: rotating the screen?

Ann,

My laptop won't rotate the screen with CTRL+ALT+Up Arrow on an HP that has an AMD processor and graphics.  My guess is you'll get the result you want most easily by using the Settings, System, Display Pane, Orientation Dropdown box.

           Also see:   https://www.intowindows.com/how-to-create-keyboard-shortcut-to-rotate-screen-in-windows-10/
and http://www.ilovefreesoftware.com/13/windows-10/how-to-rotate-computer-screen-in-windows-10.html
and https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/fix-sideways-screen-computer

which cover shortcut keys and the method I mention in addition to some other information.

Actually no.  Control-Shift-V moves an item to a different folder.

Hi,

I believe Control+Shift+N will do it as well, so you don’t have to dance around with the Alt key.

Go where you want to locate the new folder and type alt H then N. Many commands have been moved from file to home.

in jaws, you need to press insert plus numrow 3 so the next keystroke is past through to the operating system.
I don't believe anythng is mentioned when the keystroke is preformed. it simply rotates the screen. ctrl+alt+uparrow will set the screen upright where down arrow will will turn it upside down.

I am not sure of the format you are using, but I use the find command in JAWS, but you will have to know of a name or phrase.

I think it is ctrl+alt+up or is it down?

One of them anyway 😃

Or you could use the desktop context menu to get you upright again 😃

Re: all Skypes work together??

Hi David. I very much appreciate  the way you answer questions, all your tutorials, and all the work you put in doing all of it.
Now for another Skype for Dummies regarding UWP and 8.2. I only have a desktop computer using Windows 1803, Jaws 2018 and probably will never use a IPhone.
The closest I come to it is a flip phone for emergencies.
So in my case, what  is the real difference between the 2 systems, meaning UWP and 8.2, remembering this is for dummies. I am currently using 7.4, which understood is going away, and have no issues at all.
So, what can I expect  other than the keystroke differences, , meaning what can I do in UWP and not in 8.2, example, any more voice mails???
If you could throw inn a couple examples, it sure would clarify things for me, and I hope others.
Thanks very much.

Hi list members, after updating to the latest version of windows 10 version 1803 using jaws version 16 I was unable to hear system sounds. but after the repair of jaws 16, then the uninstallation of jaws 16 then reinstalling jaws16 everything is fine again.

Configuring Freeswitch and Google Voice

Cristóbal

Hello list,

So a follow up to a query I made on list a few weeks ago. Someone recommended as an accessible VOIP client Freeswitch. https://freeswitch.com/

I downloaded and installed it and it seems pretty basic, accessible  and easy to use which is great. My question is does anyone know how to configure Google Voice with it? Doing a quick search, I come up with: https://freeswitch.org/confluence/display/FREESWITCH/Google+Voice+API

Yeah, so a lot of that stuff laid out in that URL are things I’m not familiar with and seeing as how it’s going on two years old, I don’t know if anything’s changed for the better or worse.

Again, the FS client itself seems pretty nice  and accessible. It’s just getting the number properply configured for incoming and outgoing calls now I guess.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Cristóbal

It just opens back doors that allow other viruses to enter your computer. It also said that it cripples some functions in Windows. You should be good for a day or two, but I wouldn’t let it hang around very long.

Hi, Kevin. This is a tricky infection to eradicate. My suggestion is to call the Microsoft Answer desk.

800-936-5900

They have a lot of tools, and can look on their knowledge base to see the best way to remove the ABSunset virus. The problem you’re going to have is that you may need to start your computer in safe mode. During this time in safe mode, the Microsoft tech will not be able to connect with, and control your computer.

Have you tried removing this virus using the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (MRT)?  To run MRT, type “MRT” into the Run dialog (Windows key-R).

I looked on the internet to see how to remove it. Windows defender couldn’t do anything with it. The information on the web says to download SpyHunter. Does anyone know of SpyHunter? Should windows defender be able to handle this virus?

I've updated my guide to the Taskbar on Windows 10 for the April 2018 update (version 1803), and it's available here:
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Taskbar-10-Guide.html
As before, the guide covers the start menu, search, Cortana, the taskbar buttons, the notification area, and notifications. The changes are mostly minor, but the guide covers focus assist, and the new format of Cortana's notebook.
If you're still using Windows 10  version 1709, then a guide to the taskbar for that version is still available at:
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Taskbar-10-1709-Guide.html
