When you are using Facebook Messenger on a PC and use JAWS, how do you answer a video call when someone calls you?

Hi Les-all,
Actually, no. I tested it with several books which I could read find with jaws, and now I can no longer, so it must be some sort of setting.
Cheers,

I think it has to do with how the book was formatted. I had a book that worked perfectly with speech and braille. I could use the familiar Jaws commands to navigate the book. I also have a book for a class we are taking that cannot be navigated with speech or braille as you describe. I can use the built-in speech, but it's much more accessible to use the iPhone version for this particular book.
Best,

Les

Hi Robbie,
In my case, it is not crashing, but I can no longer read the text, neither in braille, nor via jaws. This is a new computer as my good one was struck by lightning, so, I just don't know what setting I should check or change. Using windows 10 and jaws 2021.
All the best,

Yes but as I said in my original email the Outlook preview pane is actually slower to use than actually opening up the email for screenreader users.

In relation to Brian’s ;s point on Message Preview I will investigate the thunderbird addon though – do you need sighted help to set it up with column assignments.

I believe Outlook has that feature too… called the viewing pane, visually using the right side of the screen and I think it is accessible.

And if it isn’t, just hit enter on the email and you have the full email in front of you; hit .esc) to close and then ‘delete key’ to delete.

I also remember that you could put the first sentence or paragraph in the column of emails, but that makes for a very long email column/index.

Thunderbird is sporadically buggy with me but  the main reason I  will still use Windows Mail is the  absolutely fantastic preview facility where simply cursoring down the inbox of messages will cause enough of the email to be read out to in most cases not need it to be opened. In the vast majority of cases I just hit the delete key after hearing the first part of the message.

This ability to review messages without having to open them individually is a massive time saver if you get lots of email traffic from lists etc.

I have tried cudgelling settings in both Outlook and Thunderbird  but I  have never managed to set up similar automatic reading of messages as is so usefully available in Windows Mail. Setting up the preview pane in Outlook simply makes it grind to a halt and you have to tab into the preview pane anyway so you might as well open the message.

The only other Mail client where I can get this efficiency with a screenreader  is Apple Mail on a Mac using Voiceover, though I would be intensely interested if other  options are known to people on Windows.

Just as an FYI, there is an Add-On for Thunderbird called, unsurprisingly, Message Preview that allows you to do pretty much the same thing.  It creates a column (called Message Preview in the column selection list) that, if moved to where you can stretch it in the column order, will display the message content for as many characters as you have space for in the column width.  It requires moving the column to get it in to position to stretch it, though.

Hi Marvin,

I’m also using Windows 10 and JAWS 2021 latest version. I haven’t had a lot of trouble with the program closing—but it does happen on occasion. I wonder if it’s because I key too fast. Not sure if that’s it, but I’m more conscious of it now. If it doesn’t happen for you with NVDA, then I have to think it must be JAWS. Here’s what I have noticed: sometimes mail closes, but usually it is only JAWS. Often, when everything gets silent, I simply press the hot key for JAWS and it’s back and speaking the mail.

Hi again Jonathan,

I've been reading the FS documentation to download for free from the website, including the FSDN, and I want to study the code samples contained in the Jaws share scripts,  but I haven't found how to access the code. For instance, I want to have a look at the VKSelect scripts, but whenever I try to open it, a message pops up saying that this script is present in the .JSD documentation but not in the default.JSS file, so I can't really look into the code.

Is there another way in which I can access the codes?

Back on the reference of a mailing list for doctors, let's say specifically urologist. If you wrote an inquiry asking why does it hurt when I urinate? I doubt anybody would appreciate answering. However if you ask a question giving several symtoms, and results of basic tests then there would be interest in answering the question.
Just like if everybody on the JFW list kept asking how do I get latest version of JAWs, there might be some grumpy people on list. In fact, the NVDA list admins, are fairly particular now, that people stay in a strict bandwidth.

Hello,
It is possible that FS put script definitions in default.jsd that are
not in default.jss. Default.jss does include several "use" statements
that include code from other libraries. Also, the psd d files are used
for the command to insert a function in code, and for the  verification
that parameters are correctly listed for functions.
There is a JAWS scripting list on freelists. This list has most of the
professional scripters on it, so they get impatient if people ask fairly
simple questions. Also, if you ask can I get a script for Application X,
nobody will answer.
Please try to search the archive of over 10 years of scripting history
before asking a question.
Best of luck!
Jonathan Cohn

just to clarify for those who might be interested, I doubt the ml at https://www.freelists.org/list/jawsscripting is the same as the one I (recently) mentioned at groups.io.

there also is another ml at freelists that deals with JAWS scripts which seems to be more of a discussion themed ml.

well, there's https://groups.io/g/jawsscripting but there's only 9
subscribers and I don't know how active it is since it was created on
Nov of 2017.

the scripting list on freelists doesn't sound like it's a good list if
one is just starting out in writing scripts. I wonder if there's a
more suitable list for newbee scripters with plenty of basic questions?

Hello,
It is possible that FS put script definitions in default.jsd that are
not in default.jss.
