Re: assistance sought for replacing I.E. browser with "chrome"

Dave...

I don’t recall exactly how to make google your default browser. I’m sure someone will give you that. But I wanted to just alert you that when you use research it from JAWS, it will still use Internet explorer and the default web browser. So far, I know of no way to force research it to use Google Chrome instead.

To expand on Sieghard's offering, there are also (as is so typical) other keyboard shortcuts for create/insert worksheet, too:  Shift + F11  or  ALT + Shift + F1

Personally, I like teaching people how to use the ribbon sequence, like Sieghard has mentioned.  Once you realize what the sequence means it makes it clearer with regard to later exploring for less commonly used functions.

Hi. I am having major problems using Jaws and gmail with this version of
firefox. The mouse does not route to links properly and when I try to go
anywhere I have a blank page with the title of inbox, but nothing else and I
have to kill the process to get rid of it -- I cannot close or anything.

Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix. I am using gmail standard
view. It works much better with internet explorer.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Re: excel sheets

Keep in mind that any of these keystrokes only work if you already have several sheets in your workbook.
Useful commands are these:
Insert a new sheet: Alt+H followed by I then S
Move or copy a sheet: Alt+H followed by O then M
Rename a sheet: Alt+H followed by O then R

Regards,
Sieghard

Ctrl+pagedown advances to the next sheet; ctrl+pageup moves to the
previous sheet. The JAWS keystroke ctrl+shift+s makes a list of
sheets. You can arrow up and down through the list and press enter
to move to a sheet in the list.

Nino,

Unfortunately, there are no generic suggestions I can offer
because certain software providers keep getting more and more "creative"
about the hoops through which you must jump before being able to actually
download their software.

I am more than happy to take a look at specific sites on an "as
needed" basis as that's the most effective way to see how it's operating at
a given point in time and giving suggestions for getting through the cyber
maze with a screen reader.

Hi Brian:

Are there any tricks that you could share when trying to download some of these programs that are free where the site makes it difficult to get the free version.

I hope I explained well enough.

Often I go to a web site where you can get a free version of the software but they make it so difficult to get the free version.

Today when I tried to get the free sostware and would click on the download link nothing would happen.

Thank you for helping us with the program.

Richard Turner already provided a direct click-through link that absolutely does initiate the download of EaseUS To Do Backup Free v11:

                     http://download.easeus.com/free/tb_free.exe

the following also works, and I just went through all of the "hoop jumping" to get to the final download link:  http://down.easeus.com/product/tb

The moment you activate either one you are presented with a save dialog for the tb_free.exe installer.

Re: Using JAWS with Simian

Hi Craig.  I used this software at my radio job that I had seveerl years ago.  I was able to make changes to the music log.  I would like to help you with this project.  I could Tandem in with you at some point and see if we can figure out what’s going on.

If I remember correctly, if you make a change, you have to refresh the screen so that the change will take affect.  I can ask a friend of mine who is still in the radio and still uses that software about this, but I believe that is still true.

Greetings,
I just started a new job at a radio station that uses Simian broadcast software.  JAWS will read most of the events on the log (songs, sweepers, commercials, etc.)  However, I am struggling with how to interact with the program, using the keyboard.  If I need to replace a song or make some other change to the on-air log, the keyboard won't do it.  The other DJs use the mouse to make changes.  The left mouse button on the keyboard does nothing.  When I arrow down, the events are highlighted, but hitting enter or pressing the spacebar does nothing.  The Applications key does nothing, as well.  If anybody has any suggestions, they would be appreciated.  Thank you very much.  Craig

Re: Using JAWS with Simian

This might be a situation where calling Jaws support and letting them connect via Tandem could do some good.

I don't know this software, but have you tried routing jaws to pc and
pushing the left mouse button (/ key on the numpad)?

Also, if this is your job, maybe use Aira.
