I'd turn this question around. Are you on a limited data plan? If not, do as I do, and set the connection to your hotspot to unmetered. I have 40GB a month and most times don't use it, so I turn unmetered off. All the best Steve

Question re JFW18.0.5038 and Braille Output
Dani Pagador
Hi, Everyone.
Using JFW18 with a Braille display. I'm needing to proof documents with the display and am not seeing things show up, like indents. JFW announces them when I navigate with speech reading line by line with the arrow keys, but I was hoping to be able to see formatting like indents on the display itself without having to use speech with apps like Word. Is this possible? Thanks, Dani Thanks, Dani .

Re: Windows 10 and Jaws 2019 question
The Application key alternative is Shift + F10, but once again, if your function keys don't yet behave as normal function keys it would be FN + Shift + F10.

Re: Windows 10 and Jaws 2019 question
I assume that on George's laptop the function keys are not set up to work as function keys and he will probably have to press the FN key along with any normal function key shortcut, e.g. instead of Jaws key + F12 or Jaws Key + F11 he would need to press FN + Jaws Key + F12 or FN + Jaws Key + F11.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
The FN key is typically between the Control and Windows Keys on the left side of the spacebar, the Control Key is usually on the very outside and the FN key to the right of that, then Windows Key, Then Alt Key and then Spacebar. By Jaws Key I mean Numpad + Insert, sorry, I don't ever use the laptop keyboard layout. George, you should be able to make the function keys behave as normal function keys, you can try to press FN + Escape and see if that does the trick, if not you will need sighted help since this otherwise has to be done in the BIOS which you access with a particular key press as the system boots up and there is no speech available in the BIOS. Re: Subject: outlook over metered connections
Metered connection is a Windows 10 setting, not an Outlook setting, though Outlook recognizes when it's using an internet connection designated as Metered by Windows 10.
Make sure you're connected to your phone as your WiFi connection before proceeding Settings, Network & Internet, Wi-Fi Pane, Select the connection that you're currently connected to and activate it (it acts as though it's a button). In the dialog that's now up for that connection, find the Metered Connection section and turn the toggle for Set as metered connection to OFF. Once you've done this the connection is no longer metered and Outlook will not issue the warning. See: https://www.outlook-tips.net/tips/turn-off-the-metered-network-warning-in-outlook/ -- Brian - Windows 10 Home, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763 Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong. ~ H.L. Re: Creating a google doc in Chrome?
Steve Nutt
Yes.
But first, let’s make sure that you have screen reader mode enabled in Docs itself. To do this, press Control+Alt+Z. If it says Screen Reader Mode Enabled, then you had it switched off. Obviously, do this when in Docs using Chrome.
All the best

Hi! I am using Jaws 2018 on a Win10 laptop. I am trying to create a Google doc with Chrome. I can get as far as hitting the create new document button, and when I press enter, I get a template dialogue, Jaws says blank so I hit enter, but the document doesn’t come up, or at least Jaws doesn’t indicate that the doc has been created. Is it possible to do this without a pair of working eyeballs?

Re: Windows 10 and Jaws 2019 question

Hi, G. You need to have a sighted person go into your bios and uncheck Media keys, Hot keys, or Action keys. Your function keys have been assigned to other functions than JAWS by default, and the only way to use them right now is to hold down the FN key as well as the INS key to get the JAWS functions.

Re: Windows 10 and Jaws 2019 question
Richard Turner
With some laptops the f keys need the FN key pressed to do their normal action; so try insert-FN-f12.
A sure fired way to get a shortcut on the desktop is to use Windows File explorer; Windows key plus e and navigate to the executable file in the c Program Files folder, and right click on it and select create shortcut and it will offer to put it on the
desktop because you cannot create a shortcut there.
I think there is a method with fewer steps that someone will chime in with.
I'd also recommend having more RAM installed.
4 GB is barely enough to run Windows 10.

Sounds like your laptop may have function keys turned on. If so, hold down the FN key and do insert+f12. There's a setting to disable that, but I'm not sure on that model if you can do it in Windows 10 or if you have to go to the bios. What this is supposed to do is set it up so you can control things like the volume through your function keys. My laptop also has this setting, but I disabled it ages ago.
