What will happen is that up on the start of JAWS after deletion, the
settings will be restored from C:\programdata\freedomscientific\jaws\XXX whhere XXX is the JAWS version number. These settings are the factory settings usually.

Under %appdata%\freedom scientific and open the Jaws folder, you will find subfolders for each version of jaws that is installed. I don't know exactly what deleting that folder will do for you, but just pointing out that there are more versions of Jaws in there you may want to be aware of. Re: Jaws & Excel column navigational key stroke problem
Van Lant, Robin
So glad you asked about this again, as I needed to refresh my memory, too. Such a great keystroke. I’ve copied your notes and edited them:
First select the cells in the column that you want to explore. With your focus in the top most cell of the appropriate column, hold down the control and shift keys, and hit down arrow once to select the range of cellsI also like using Control spacebar to select the entire column. Now, holding the control and shift keys, press the backslash key – the one just above the Enter key. Each time you press it, it will move focus within your select range to the next different value. You can use Insert up arrow to read the cell value to see if it’s what you want without unselecting the entire range.

Hi all!
I’ve got a column of numbers in excel I’ve sorted them and some of the numbers appear in numerous rows. What I want to do is have the focus jump down to the next different number in the column.
I asked this question in September and got an answer. But my notes are messed up,
So reaching out again for help.
The instruction I have are: Ok, hold down the control and shift. Do not let go of theese 2 keys. Now while holding down these keys, hit down arrow, do not hold down the down arrow, just press it. wait a second, then hit the backspace key. The backspace key is normally above the enter key.
The person who had the answer was a Chris Block
So it would be greatly appreciated if you could write me directly because maybe it’s a timing issue.

Re: Jaws too verbose with Zoom
Richard Turner
Hi Norma, and all,
I think I have narrowed down the issue with insert+tab using Jaws 2020 or 2021 and Zoom. There is a problem with the Zoom scripts I guess in Jaws 2020 and 2021. Jaws command: SayWindowPromptAndText, JAWSKey+Tab Which should just return the information of the prompt and window text, right? But in Zoom, it returns: Alerts Enabled. Chat Messages captured only. Jump to contact, group chat or channel, shortcut Ctrl+T, editing box: Edit‑ Type in text. After the annoying extra verbiage of " Alerts Enabled. Chat Messages captured only." It gives you what you wanted.
In Jaws 2019 where there is no Zoomsoftware files, it returns only the Window prompt and text as it should.
So, while I am not advanced enough to know how to fix this, the presence of the ZoomSoftware.* files in Jaws 2020 and 2021 seems to be the problem.

Jonathan:
The teaching I do is team teaching for the Handiham organization, so we need to leave the other instructors unmuted for their feedback and comments throughout the classes.
Students in the class mute and unmute themselves, so I don’t think that’s the issue.
I don’t have any other devices activated that might be creating sounds for Zoom to pick up.
I do still have Jaws 2020 on this computer, so can revert back to that if needed.
Yesterday, when in a test zoom session while preparing for the class, my mic volume suddenly became quite high and my audio got very distorted for a while. Re-booting the computer fixed the issue.
This is why I think something in Zoom or Windows is messing with my sound settings, but again, I can’t identify a consistent pattern.
Will keep trying here, and I appreciate everyone’s input.

Your best bet is to mute everybody else unless they are actively speaking, Zoom has some anti echo functionality that will lower the volume of Microphones that seem to be hearing content from another user. Or if you have sound output from the meeting on another device that your USB Microphone might be picking up.
If neither of these seems to be the cause, then I would suggest trying not to use JAWS 2021, as it has several new sound processing functions, and perhaps one of thee is getting in the way of Zoom.

I want to be sure I am interpreting you correctly here.
Are you saying that my problem with disappearing mic volume in zoom is related to the fact that Zoom is set to adjust volume automatically?
I just want to be sure I know what I’m doing before I get in there and make any changes.
I should have pointed out last night that the problem also seems to be related to sharing the screen with the meeting host, although, once again, I can’t identify a consistent pattern. It seems to occur almost randomly.

Hi there. In zoom, you can adjust your settings thus. Press tab until you hear setting button, wack enter or, press the space bar to activate, arrow down to audio, tab until you hear adjust your microphone volume automatically, uncheck this box. Your microphone audio issue should then be resolved.
I hope this helps.

Hello, everyone.
Recently, I have been doing some online teaching via Zoom, and have noticed a very strange issue with my microphone volume.
For these meetings, I use a headset with an attached microphone. I have experienced this issue with two different headsets. Both headsets are connected via a USB port.
My issue is that when I’m teaching, my microphone suddenly looses volume for no apparent reason.
I can’t identify a consistent pattern to these failures, but I’m told my volume suddenly disappears to the point that my audio is unintelligible.
Has anyone else had this issue in Zoom meetings, and if so, how did you solve it?
Is there something I can do to keep my volume levels more stable?
I’m using Jaws 2021 here on a Windows 10 PC. I also put Jaws in Speech On Demand mode as I’m conducting my classes, because they involve screen sharing, and I want to minimize Jaws speech when I’m navigating the screen. Fortunately, I have a HIMS Polaris Notetaker that I can use as a Braille display.
Thanks for any help!

Re: Access to network license via VPN

Hi Thomas!

Thank you very much. It confirms that it should be possible. In the area where I live we don't have as many options when it comes to licencing Freedom Scientific products as in Canada or US. So I don't know if it's possible to get licences the way you describe it. Any way in our small school it'll be acceptable to use VPN since there'll not be many situations where they won't have access to Internet. Right now the setup is very simple. A laptop with the licence server and the clients with full admin rights connected to the same network. We don't use domains any more since the students net is completely separated from the workes network. I can see that Windows 10 have a built in VPN server. So my plan is to make sure the server always get teh same IP from the DHCP and ask to forward the specific ports neeede for that. Then I hope it'll work by connecting with the built in VPN clients at the clients PC's. I just hope it's possible to configure the clients or the server so that the VPN is used only for the licence and not for Internet trafic. OZ0TE Jacob
