Hi Robin,

Okay, using NVDA and holding down the Tab key navigates that file types list much faster!  Wish Jaws would do this!

Mike,

I thought I had used page down, but I just tried that and, although I can see that the screen is moving up, focus does not seem to change. So, just hold down your tab key for several seconds, then stop to check where you are.  The items are in alphabetical order, so you can just keep holding down the tab key in short spurts until you get to the “P” section.

Firstly press your Windows key, then type Default Programs and press enter.

Now tab around until you hear PDF then Edge, which will be a button.  Press space on it, and change it with up and down arrows to Acrobat Reader DC.

Now any PDF file will open in DC.

I even put the cursor on the file and used the Jaws OCR function and that didn’t work. Do I need to turn on or off certain settings? OR is there a way for it to go into Acrobat reader?

I am using Cisco AnyConnect here with no issues. All I have to do once on a wifi network is to open AnyConnect and tab to the Connect Button. A new dialog opens where I type in my username and password.  Once successfully connected, a pop-up with a terms of use item opens and I simply hit spacebar to Accept the terms.  Really simple with speech.

one place that firefox crashes every time is when you open the bookmark list with control i or control b.
it has been doing this before version 52.
if you wait about 1 minute it will unhang then you can close the bookmark list.
i have to turn off the virtual pc cursor first then open the list. then it will not hang.
the same with window eyes. i have to turn off auto load, and browse mode first before i open the bookmark list then firefox will not hang.
none of this happens when i use n v d a.

I vaguely remember stumbling across  some Jaws settings which allowed or stop Jaws working with the extended function keys. Can someone inform me where this setting is located?

Apart from pressing enter on n edit box, is there any other keyboard command Which will allow the manual turning on of form mode? What about a keyboard command, apart from  escape, to turn off form mode.

Hi again, Tom. As Andrew said, to exit forms mode, you can also use NumPad Plus, which is the JAWS Cursor key. In Laptop Keyboard Layout, the equivalent is:

CAPSLOCK plus Semicolon.

Subject: couple of Jaws questions

Hi,

Using: W10 Home and Jaws 2018 all with latest updates.

Thanks

Tom

Howdy,

Slight correction.  Numpad plus, is the PC cursor key.
Take care.  Mike.  Go Dodgers!

HI All,

I was wondering if you have noticed with firefox 61, and now 62 that jfw locks up or I guess firefox locks up all of the time, it happens randomly, but it happens so much that I made chrome my default web browser.

Has anyone experienced this?

Best,

Juan Hernandez

Hi Robin,

I don't want to wear out my Tab key navigating that long list of file types!  LOL  Do you know of a quicker way of navigating that list of file types?  If so, would please share?!  Thank you very much.
Take care.  Mike.  Go Dodgers!

I followed Steve’s instructions, as I needed to make this change, too.  I did not find PDF in the initial list of default app settings, but there was a link to other file types.  I clicked that and was able to move down the long list of alphabetical file types and click that button to make the adjustment to Adobe.

Hi Kevin,

Firstly press your Windows key, then type Default Programs and press enter.

Now tab around until you hear PDF then Edge, which will be a button.  Press space on it, and change it with up and down arrows to Acrobat Reader DC.

Now any PDF file will open in DC.

All the best

Steve

Hello, I downloaded a PDF file from my bank’s web site. I put my cursor on the file and pressed enter. It opens the file into Microsoft Edge. Jaws cannot read anything. I even put the cursor on the file and used the Jaws OCR function and that didn’t work. Do I need to turn on or off certain settings? OR is there a way for it to go into Acrobat reader?
