Re: can jaws read page numbers using adobe acrobat reader DC?
Hello,
You can read page numbers in two ways. Control Shift N is the Go To command for JAWS with Acrobat Reader. Hit this and you can hear the current page number as well as use it to navigate to other pages.
You can also bring up the status bar by first hitting Insert F4, and then hitting Inserrt Page Down. JAWS will say something like 1/8, indicating that you are on the first of a total of 8 pages. It is only necessary to hit Insert F4 the first time in a given session. Inserrt Page Down by itself will work for accessing it subsequent times during that session.

David

Re: can jaws read page numbers using adobe acrobat reader DC?
Hi Marvin,
If you press CTRL + Shift + N, you will be placed in an edit box where you can type a page number, and then press enter to jump to the page number you typed in. Before you type a number though, the number of the page you are currently on will be in the edit field. This is how I check to see what page I am currently on. So, just press CTRL + Shift + N and you will see the page number you are on. Then press escape to close the "Go to page" dialogue box.
Hope this helps.

Panagiotis Antonopoulos
Hi Bill-all, I think this is not right, regarding documents that have come out as .pdfs, saz printed books etc. It maz be though so for scanned documents. I am not insisting on this, but this is mz view. How I got to know this_ I am asked to review a conference volume for a prestigious Greek journal of mz profession. When referring to a new article, I am checking the table of content for the first page and the first page of the following article. A new article usuallz starts in a new page. I discovered a mistake bz one of the authors, so I opened the pdf document and hit the jaws find )jawskezücontrüfÖ. The result came instantlz, I mean the place which I wanted to comment on, and, to mz delight, pagination was also showing. Although I cannot be 1öö% certain of it being the same as with the printed volume, it was certainlz within its table of contents range, and prettz well where it should be. I need to saz that I am not reading for the review the pdf document, but have created a word document for a simple reason. Within pdfs, I have not found a waz of reading notes at their appropriate place, whereas in word, once a footnote is showing, I can immediatelz look at it. Hope all this helps, Greetings from Greece, Takis

If that doesn't work, you might try restarting the computer. I can't think of anything else to try. Good luck. Two problems happening this evening. First, my speech is cutting out both when using alt-tab and shift-h. When using alt-tab Jaws is not always saying the full name of the open program. When using shift-h to jump backwards by heading in BookShare in chrome, Jaws is not always reading the entire heading, but when I h to read by heading, I am not having a problem. Second problem, Jaws will not read by character or word in MS word or outlook when typing a message. It appears to be working when reading a message I receive, but not one I am typing. I had to use narrator to type, edit, and most importantly review and read this email. Randy Meyer

Re: Jaws 2019 blocking desktop shortcut keystrokes
You should be able to pin anything on the desktop to the taskbar
by hitting the applications key on it. You can even put something
on the desktop, pin it to the taskbar, then move it somewhere
else, and it may still work.

notification” issue. I went to the Action Center,
and there were several notifications, none of them
anything that seemed to be a security issue, but
mainly notices of news items from Google. While
in the Action Center, I was able to easily read
the message text. Did I figure this out, or is
the “new notification” coming from some other
source?
Tim
Ford
With either JAWS or Narrator, I
am getting a prompt of a “new notification”, but I
cannot figure out a way to access the notification.
Any ideas on where the notification originates, and
how to deal with it?

My adobe acrobat pro English is a few years old, version 5.5., but when I try to load a pdf, and then select that and load, it goes into like a web based or cloud, and jaws just sees it as blank. If I try to do a insert o, d for document, says ocr failed. So not sure why. Why is that, and not reading it that great and do have the google chrome extension. Maybe ray, can help. This is weird. Anyone had this issue with adobe acrobat reader dc, current free version and got it from the official adobe site. Marvin.

Re: Jaws 2019 blocking desktop shortcut keystrokes
As I said, it's interesting that shortcuts for me seem to work fine and as somebody else said, they experience this also with NVDA and Narrator so it may not be Jaws. On the other hand while one shouldn't have to employ such work-arounds, in this case I think the work-around is a much better solution

I, for example, always have at least half a dozen spreadsheets or so pinned to my jumplist in Excel and this way I can open any one of them quickly and easily. If you have an app like Notepad pinned on the taskbar you can also use Shift + Windows Key + corresponding number to open a new instance of the application. For example, let's say I have Notepad in fourth place, I press Windows Key + 4 to open it. Now let's say I want another instance of Notepad in addition to the one I already started, I just press Shift + Windows Key + 4 and a new instance of Notepad opens. Having said all this, I just put Outlook on my desktop and created the shortcut Control + Shift + O and it worked for me without a problem. I have also a shortcut for my Synology Drive which opens the folder on my hard drive where I sync the files on my Synology NAS to and it is Control + Alt + D and it's been working fine now for many month. My Jaws shortcut, Control + Shift + J also works. I think these are all the shortcuts I have since for all my applications I use the taskbar shortcuts as described above.

I also can't seem to create a shortcut hotkey or at least not the one I want to create. For instance, pressing Alt+Enter to get in to a shortcut properties, then tabbing to the Hotkey field, and when I enter the Hotkey sequence of alt+Shift+Control+f, then Apply it and press Ok. I go back to check and the Hotkey has not been created at all.
I wonder if it is some kind of weird annoying Windows 10 Home security issue that is causing all these problems? I am running latest version of Windows 10 Home.

If Jaws 2019 is running, the shortcut keystrokes I have set for my various programs do not work. IE, alt+shift+o for Outlook.

These are the latest versions of both Jaws editions.
I obviously like some of the features in Jaws 2019, but will be running Jaws 2018 for the most part unless I can resolve this bloody annoying issue.

But, if I unload Jaws 2019 and run Jaws 2018 and press alt+shift+o Outlook opens.
These are the latest versions of both Jaws editions.
I obviously like some of the features in Jaws 2019, but will be running Jaws 2018 for the most part unless I can resolve this bloody annoying issue.
Thanks for any thoughts,
Richard

There are several ways to achieve this but try this one.
1. Open both the workbook containing the sheet you want to copy and the workbook you wish to copy the sheet into.
2. Go to the sheet you want to copy or move.
3. Press F6 to cycle to the Sheet tab name - JAWS will say "Sheet Tab, TAB NAME tab". where TABNAME will be the name of the tab ie Sheet1 or whatever you've named the tab.
4. Press the Applications key to display the equivalent of the right mouse click menu and arrow down until you here "Move or Copy Sheet"
5. Select this option. You will be asked to “move sheet before “ and be placed in a list of all the sheets in the workbook.
6. Press Shift+Tab to move into a combo box and JAWS will say “To Book” and the current file name will be spoken.
7. You can now arrow through the combo box and choose which file to move or copy the sheet into including to a new blank workbook.
8. Once you’ve made your choice, tab down to the “Create a coy” check box. Check this if you want to copy the sheet leaving the original untouched. Leave blank if you want to move the sheet from the current file to the new file.
9. Tab to the OK option and press Enter. The sheet will be moved or copied depending on your choice and you will be in the new file.
This is the same option to move sheets around in a workbook as well. Be careful of copying sheets with embedded links to other tabs in the file.
You can also get to this option by using the old command Alt+E M (Edit Move).
Hope this helps

Re: adobe acrobat reader dc and jaws issues
And just to add to this, in the latest version of Jaws this is no longer necessary, but if you use Jaws 2018 or an earlier version of Jaws 2019 you may have to do this.

Hi, Marvin.
1. Open Adobe Reader.
2. Press ALT plus K for Preferences.
3. Arrow down to Security (Enhanced, (not just Security)
4. TAB to Enable Protected Mode at startup, and make sure it is unchecked.
5. Answer “Yes” to the prompt which warns you that, Disabling Protected Mode requires you to restart Adobe Reader.
6. TAB to, Enable Enhanced Security, and make sure this is also unchecked.
7. TAB to the OK button, and press it.
8. Restart Adobe Reader.
Now you should be able to see the content of PDF files in Adobe Reader.
I thought I would try adobe acrobat reader dc, latest version. My adobe acrobat pro English is a few years old, version 5.5., but when I try to load a pdf, and then select that and load, it goes into like a web based
or cloud, and jaws just sees it as blank.

In my case, I'm the only user, and am on the one account, which has full administrative rights. Since the shortcuts work with Jaws 2018, but not 2019, this is definitely a Jaws issue.

Hi,
I am also having this problem, but i'm not sure if it is due to the latest version of Jaws. It also happens with Narrator and NVDA.

Another odd thing is using the bypass key, insert+3 doesn’t work either.
It is like Jaws 2019 on Windows 10 home just simply blocks those desktop shortcut keys.

Well, they say misery loves company. Good to know I’m not the only one.
The strange thing is, at work, with a similar setup, only it is Windows 10 Pro, the shortcut keystrokes work with Jaws 2019.
Not with my Windows 10 home…

I have been having this same problem, mainly with the Internet Explorer shortcut. In order to get it to work, I have to arrow to the shortcut and press ENTER on the shortcut. The hotkey assignment refuses to work much of the time.
