Re: jaws 2020 free authorzation help

Rob is correct.  After selecting which of the three products, JAWS, Fusion, or ZoomText, that you wish to obtain, a file with whatever name you filled out in the form with some additional characters, with an EXE extension, will download.  Mine was named BrianVogelJAWSLicenseActivator.exe

I imagine you'd substitute Fusion or ZoomText for JAWS in the file name if one of those products was chosen.

I had uninstalled JAWS 2019 from my system before running this installer, and it took care of everything, including installing JAWS 2020.

Hi,
On the portal, after registering, You need to choose the product you wish to download, such as Jaws or Fusion.
It will download the activation file to your computer.
So look in your downloads folder for the setup file. Its something like your name Jaws authorization.exe.
Run this file to install the license and it will install Jaws.
I am not on my PC at the moment, so am writing this message from memory.
I hope it helps.

Anna Givens

Here are some very useful links that your friend can use. The first one is the link to sign up for an email list for blind high school and college students but anyone can sign up for it on there you can ask questions and get answers from thousands of students who use blackboard and other things like that they should be very helpful in asking about blackboard or asking specific questions.
The second link is a link to their Facebook group where you can also ask questions and get information about blackboard or anything else. The third one is a Facebook group for university students parents and teachers who are blind and another good resource and place to ask questions about accessibility and school related things. Hope some of this helps. If not feel free to have your friend reach out to me via email and I will connect them with someone who uses blackboard with Jaws.

Re: Need help with Blackboard

I can't speak to Blackboard from an overall ease of accessibility perspective, but I have had to train a couple of my previous clients who were graduate students to navigate it.  All were successful using a modern browser, which means not Internet Explorer.  Obviously, there are parts of Blackboard, or any complex system, that I never needed to get into with either client.

If memory serves one was using Firefox and the other Chrome.

Hello,

IE does not work with blackboard, even if you can see. I primarily use
IE and got a sighted friend to check to see what was going wrong, and
apparently some of the buttons don't even display on the screen. Why
blackboard doesn't tell you this when you log in is beyond me, but if
you look at the layout of their website you can probably realise that
common sense is not their strongest suit.

Windows 10, JAWS 2020

In recent weeks, I have frequently heard “unavailable” when hitting a desktop shortcut. Especially the Downloads, Documents, and a few other folders. Only folders, not shortcuts to programs or web pages. Does anybody have similar problems? Does anybody have a solution? It happens quite frequently and is very annoying. And I know the desktop shortcuts have been put in correctly, so that’s not the problem.

Thanks for any help on this,

I have resisted upgrading to the absolutely latest version  of VLC I am still on 3.0.7.1.

I am glad others are still having a good experience with WinAmp. For me on several Windows installs on both my Desktop and Laptop I was experiencing lockup and crashes apart from the problem not playing some modern radio streams which VLC seemed to have no problem with. This experience made me personally think it was time to move on to something that was still being developed and supported.

nVDA still won't read preferences etc though for me. Does it work for you? Otherwise, yeah  there is certainly more feedback for status and things like that.

I have no trouble with Winamp and the latest build of windows 10, and I use it for audio -- but I play a lot of vieos and VLC is hands down the best player I have found for that. There's a lot of power under the hood and really I've only scratched the surface.

There are masses of keystroke  which work with VLC - in particular I love the ability to speed up and slow down podcasts on the fly but I agree that there is a big gap for scripts  providing information.

I have looked in vain for VLC scripts.

As a guide to  what could be done you only have to load the NVDA VLC addon which completely transforms VLC information feedback. For example or all the information you require you only have to press the I key.

Often I quit Jaws when I am going to be using VLC as the experience is so much better supported.

to given that WinAmp is increasingly unsupported and to some extent obsolete, I moved to VLC as WinAmp kept on crashing under Windows 10,  and failed to play some streams that VLC had no problem with, it seems utterly bizarre that Jaws provides no support for VLC at all.

Seems to me that Vlc with Jaws isn’t that accessible? I did a Jaws+h command, but I didn’t get any kind of help info. Can you with Jaws and Vlc, see how long the audio is, how much time Elapsed and other info, maybe with Jaws scripts? Thanks for experiences you guys might have with this combo.

JM, I'm curious, what plugins did you get rid of to make Winamp a bit more stable, and what other things did you do?

Hey David.

Regarding winamp, there were a few things I did to set it up that made
it work better – iE, getting rid of some dead plugins. I also use
windows now to add stuff to playlists instead of doing this within the
programme itself; it seems a bit more stable. Anyway, nothing wrong with
having multiple players on your computer, either – I use VLC for video;
winamp for audio (keep considering switching to foobar and not doing it).

As for the VLC preferences, I used to be able to do what you are
describing. For quite some time now though, opening preferences (or in
fact any of the other dialogue screens) does not give any feedback at
all. As far as I know they are visually open, but screen-readers say
nothing. I don’t know when this started but I feel like it was prior to
the latest version being installed, which I have done. There must be
some setting that has altered which is not revealing this info to my
screen0-reader, but I am really not sure what it could be or what I must
change. Would be nice, though, if I knew.
