Re: Accessible Version of Visual Studio?
Munawar Bijani <munawarb@...>
Hi, I've found VS 2017 to be great in accessibility, mostly because it implements UIA rather than whatever Microsoft was using when VS 2005 was around.
I'd argue that 2017 is the most accessible version yet. I use it at work every day and it works really well with both JAWS and NVDA.
Why does updating Windows "break" things for you? I'd get that
sorted out if I were you; people really shouldn't be using VS 2005
nowadays. Technology is so different from what it used to be and I
strongly recommend staying current, especially with development
tools. Things like the VC++ runtimes are updated with each new
version of Visual Studio as well, and many of these updates patch
security holes that you really don't want floating around.

Accessible Version of Visual Studio?
Annabelle Susan Morison
Hi, it's
Annabelle.
I've read somewhere
that Visual Studio has a version that's fully accessible to JAWS. The version I
was told is fully accessible is Visual Studio 2005. The problem is, I'm not sure
where to get that one, especially a copy that's clean and free of viruses,
malware, adware, spyware, and the like. I've tried the new version, but it
updates Windows, which breaks screenreader compatibility on my machine. I've
already had to restore it back to working order by reimaging the hard drive
three times within 8 years! The first time, I formatted the wrong hard drive by
accident, and now I have to recover what I didn't get the chance to back up on
that hard drive. If I can't get Visual Studio 2005, I wonder what programming
alternative I can use? Particularly I want to program my own virtual instruments
and audio software, as well as software that lets customers write their own
scripts for ceremonies. The site where I read about the accessibility of Visual
Studio 2005 is here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/118984/how-can-you-program-if-youre-blind

Hi Shirley,
Simply focus on any file or folder, then arrow right, until you hear Date Split Button, then press space on it.
Job done.

Hi listers,
In my great wisdom, I managed to invert the listed files. Not sure how I did it, but those beginning with the letter Z are on top and the files beginning with the letter A are at the bottom. Not a terrible thing, but annoying. Since I don’t know how it got this way, I can’t figure out how to put it back the way I’m used to it. Can someone please help me?
FYI, I’m using JAWS 2018 and Windows 10.
Thanks for any help.

Hi shirley,
Open any file explorer window and make sure nothing is selected, it shouldn’t be when you first open a folder unless you move the cursor. If a folder or file is selected you can press Control + Spacebar to unselect it. Now press Shift + F10, arrow to Sort by, expand the sub menu with the right arrow and then arrow down and make sure “ascending” is selected, simply press enter once you get to it and that should fix it.

Hello, everyone.
I just updated to the latest build of Jaws 2019 on this Windows 10 PC.
Most things seem to be working well, and I’m very glad to have the Alt 1 through 6 commands available again for reading Outlook 2016 message fields.
However, I might have discovered a bug in File Explorer with the new Jaws update.
When in a folder list view, I used to be able to create a new folder using the alt control N command. I found this to be quite handy and efficient.
While I can still create a new folder by finding the option in the file explorer menus, it seems like the alt control N command is no longer working.
Can anyone else check for this bug, and let us know if it is being experienced on other Windows 10 computers with the latest Jaws update?
Thanks!

I tried alt 2 for creating a new folder, and find it more difficult than control shift N. I’m sure it’s just a matter of personal preference.
Nevertheless, as I said before, it’s always good to have multiple ways for doing something.
