Re: best web browser to use with JAWS?
Steve Nutt
Hello Dean,
I tend to agree with you, though I’ll probably stick to Chrome, even if the new Edge does come out, due to the way it syncs data with my Gmail account. That is, everything from my PC goes to my phone, all my browsing history etc.
Google for the win!
All the best

I vote for Chrome. When the new Edge comes out, I suspect it will take over, and I’m not sure how much difference between the two a user will notice. I don’t recommend the current Edge, it’s being phased out anyway, and I’ll let others praise Firefox.

Hi all:
Please post your recommendations of what you think is the best web browser to use with the latest version of JAWS. I seem to go back and forth on this and would like to settle down and really learn using what folks think is best.
Thanks.

Changing this setting in w10 is possible, as I and others have done. You have a problem or are not following directions.

Re: Jaws does not read the content of screen using jaws cursor.
I provided the steps in my original email where I said the first step was to open Jaws Settings Centre with Jaws Key + 6.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
In the email you just replied to asking whether this is in Jaws or Windows I said " This is in Jaws Settings Centre with Default Settings loaded under Miscellaneous, here it is item 9 of 17, just before "Use virtual ribbon menu"." So, yes, it is in Jaws Settings not Windows Settings and I would bet 20 Bucks that if you have indeed Jaws 2019 which you say you do I could show you in 5 seconds where it is and that in fact it is there. I don't have a Windows 7 PC any more, but if that setting even exists there you should definitely not use it, GDI Hooking which is what you get when you uncheck the accessibility display driver, is not a thing in Windows 7 and if it did anything it probably wouldn't be good. I'll ask the Beta team about this, there are still people who run Windows 7. Regards, Sieghard

There are 2 Miscellaneous
folders. The first is a sub-folder in, Web / HTML / PDF's and the second
Miscellaneous folder is the one you're looking for. It's the second
folder from the bottom of the list, right above the Last Changed Settings

Hello Anna To my personal experience I would say that NVDA fills most of your needs for home use. I mean if you use your computer just for mailing, basic word processing and media playing, that's good. But honnestly, i perosnnaly use both depending on the situation. There are cases where NVDA can detect things that Jaws doesn't and vice-versa. For example, on Windows 10 modern apps, NVDA makes the job better than Jaws. But on the Internet, I prefer using Jaws because it is smarter in rendering content. For professional use, to my opinion, Jaws is far more powerful, typically when you have to use dedicated job apps that are more and more web based applciations, or simply for using with Powerpoint..
But all of this is only my own point of view. Tanguy Le 29/06/2019 à 01:32, Anna Givens a écrit : Good evening,I’m wondering if someone could tell me about the differences between JAWS and NVDA. Well, I'm glad it was such an easy solution and this worked for you. It's not always so easy, I switch back and forth many times a day between using the accessibility display driver and not using it because even inside one application, my accounting software, some screens don't read at all when it is checked but do when it is not and vice versa. .

The problem with the imported from IE folder drove me crazy for a while, but after doing some serious thinking and exploring, if you take the following steps carefully, you would not have to worry about it: 1. While in Chrome, open Bookmarks manager, control+shift+o. 2. tab to the treeview, and use your up and down arrows until you find imported from IE folder and press enter to choose it. 3. tab to the bookmark list. 4. press the home key to take you to the top of this list. 5. press shift+end key to select from current location to the end of the list. 6. cut the selection, control+x. 7. GO back to the treeview, shift+tab. 8. Use your up and down arrows and find bookmarks bar, and press enter to choose it. 9. tab to the bookmark list. 10. paste your folders and bookmarks, control+v. 11. GO back to the treeview, shift+tab. 12. Use your up and down arrows and find Imported from IE, and press enter to choose it. 13. press the delete key and get rid of it. If you don't like where your bookmarks are being saved, do the following: 1. when on a page you want to save, press control+d to add bookmark. 2. You are focused on the edit box for the name. 3. If you don't like the name, Type over the name since its selected and press tab to go to the next option. 4. If you like the name, then press tab to go the next option. 5. You are now on the bookmark folder button menu. 6. If you don't want the current folder, press spacebar to open it and use the up and down arrows to choose a folder you want and press enter to choose it. 7. if you don't want it in a sub folder, then choose bookmarks bar. 8. It is important to remember that Chrome remembers the last folder you choose. 9. Once you are hhappy with the folder, press tab until you find the done button and press enter to choose it. One tip I can give regarding bookmarks which I found really helpful with Chrome is there is a key combination to quickly access bookmarks in a list similar to how IE displays them. If you press and hold ALT and then press F (it should say context menu at this stage), then release alt and f, press b (it should say something like bookmarks sub menu), simply press right cursor key and you're in the list of bookmarks. Hey guys:
Is there anyone on this list who trades stocks and/or options with e-trade using jaws?
I currently trade on that platform, and, I find the stock order sheets good but the options chains don’t seem to read with jaws, meaning, I cannot hit enter on the options chain, a mouse click seems to only do;
Any tricks or tips will be most appreciated.
Please advise as you like.
