That is interesting, I also don't have screentime enabled since it is reported to use a fair bit of battery power.

Seems a bit unnecessary to me but it's fine, I just ignore the weekly Screentime notification and never read the report.

Re: JAWS accessible Order Management Software

It makes a lot more sense, but while somebody might have a suggestion this may go well beyond the scope of this list. I guess it all depends on how many people are involved here, how many items, the volume of orders, do you need a fully integrated solution with inventory, ordering, shipping etc.
I own a retail business and that is a different side of the equation, most of the suppliers and wholesalers I deal with use anything from Quickbooks to full-blown SAP which could cost hundreds of thousands or millions of Dollars to implement depending on the size of the business, whether there is just one location etc.
I guess it would also depend if the software has to be accessible, I don't want to be a spoil-sport, but good luck if that is the case, I am having a heck of a hard time finding a replacement for my current point of sale software which is nearing it's end of life.

Chrome Amazon Issue

Randy Meyer

When using Google Chrome and searching Amazon, I am getting consistently knocked out of Chrome and the internet.  I enter some words in the search box in Amazon, hit enter, and I am kicked out of the internet, or I am unable to see the search results.

I am using Jaws 2019 and windows 10 version 1809.  Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I upgraded to 1809 about five days ago to get the latest version of narrator and I am just noticing this problem.

Re: realtec hd audio compression

Robert Logue

You can actually get to the tab to turn off all effects from Windows sound settings realtek properties. As with all windows it depends how you get there.

My favorite method is to create a shortcut to sndvol.exe.  Assign a shortcut key like ctr l+alt+v.

You can also open the volume mixer by using the run command

windows key r. sndvol. enter.

You can also search sndvol from the start menu.

You will land on the main volume control.  Press shift tab once  to get to a button that says the name of the audio device you want to get the control panel properties.  Press space bar to activate it as enter might close the window instead.

When you get to Realtek properties, ctr l+tab to navigate to enhancements.  There is a checkbox to turn off all enhancements there.

If there is a more direct way, please chime in.  I know this topic is kind of old but it might help someone.

Bob

Hi, i know the realtek control pannel is a real best to navigate to use so can one edit the ini or registry entries to turn off all of the effects, as there is not an option in the sound card properties in the control pannel and the realtek pannel is just a bunch of tabs.

Hi.

Yes, hitting alt instantly says ‘chromium button” for me using JAWS 2018 and allows access of the menus. JAWS 18 performed exactly the same way.

Like in firefox, if you press f11, this menu disappears and alt will do nothing. So if you hit alt and nothing seems to happen, try this toggle to bring it back.

Provided you are not in the address edit box, ALT will throw focus on to the Chrome Menu button.  NVDA announces "Chrome Menu button" the moment you have focus on that button.  I don't have JAWS handy, but in work I've done with clients I could swear it does the same thing, at least in any of the more recent versions.

I'm now curious if JAWS is not announcing this and, if so, what version or versions aren't doing so?

I ditched Jaws on my last full reset.  It made my system seem broken in so many apps. Mostly web browsers. But, other places.  Turns out. It wasn't Jaws at fault all the time.

BTW: Using Narrator and NVDA.

I’m wondering if anybody else is having this problem.

I’m running Firefox version 62, latest version of JFW, and Windows 10.

I’ll be arrowing down through a web page, and all of a sudden JAWS just stops reading. Sometimes it comes back after a few seconds, but not always.

I especially notice it when reading the Boston Globe in NFB Newsline on the web.

Also when I’m using Google Docs, I’m noticing an irritating lag when I hit up or down arrow in a document.

Any thoughts on how to remedy this?

Hi Al,

Unfortunately, I can't find it now, but I read some instructions on a list.
Maybe they've nuked it. Nothing surprises me with Apple.

Steve,

Using IOS 12.1.4 I have looked quite extensively in settings under Safari,
etc. and cannot find where to disable this. I googled and it said turn off
under restrictions which I can no longer find. Suggestions? Only reference
to anything about restrictions I found is under screen time which I have
disabled and do not use

Hi,

Yes, you can have Chrome as a default on iPhone, but you have to go a
convoluted way to do it, you disable Safari as your browser in settings.

Are you saying you can have Chrome as a default browser on an iPhone as
well? The rest of what you say below I agree with and is why I like Chrome

Hi,

What I like about Chrome is if you have a Gmail account, you can sync your
browsing history across all devices. This is really useful if you come
across a web site not accessible on your phone, you can go onto your PC,
load Chrome, hit Control+H then load that site on your PC.

All the best

I use Firefox latest version with Jaws 2018 and have no issues.
Some folks like Chrome.
The best browser is the one you can use and feel comfortable with.
Does the training organization have a preference?

Other than IE, of course.

I am going to be receiving some in depth computer training in preparation
for vocational training services. Since Internet Explorer is no longer
secure, what is the best browser out there that is JAWS friendly? I have
used fire fox in the past, but as of late I have heard mixed views about
fire fox.

I have to hit the Escape Key twice.  Just hitting it once gets the following from JAWS.  “Menu bar, Leaving Menu Bar, Google Crome Menu.”  I then hit Escape again and I get back to the page that I was on.  Any idea why?
