Hello; although you didn't say what model of computer your friend is using,
it sounds like you need to change the behavior of the function keys.

using a dell computer, you can,
1, go to desktop,
2, hold down the FNKey,
now press the escape key.
now try the keystroke insert+f4.
you can also do, FNKey+insert+f4.

Hi all,

I hope this Email finds you all in good spirit.

My friend has recently purchased a laptop equipped with Windows10.
Since he is not that tech savvy, he wanted me to install his prefered apps
and do all the necessary settings according to his liking. I installed JAWS
and NVDA successfully; however, I was unable to perform the Insert+F4
command to quit JAWS by any means, even when setting keyboard layout to
laptop. As I hit Caps lock+F4, JAWS speaks "Windows+P" and opens a
projection listbox with 4 options like, "Computer only," "Extend" etc. I
tried the same via an external USB keyboard, but to no avail. Besides,
Application key for bringing up a context menu is non-functional, I can
easily launch the same with
Shift+F10 though. Now, it really makes me wonder why such a strange is
happening. Your tips and tricks will be highly appreciated.

well, if your using outlook 2016,
and you follow the steps, when you do a shift+tab, jaws perhaps will not say edit box,
but, if you use your arrow keys, you should see the text, now you can edit the wording.

Re: Editing signature Outlook2016 JAWS2019

For me using Office 365 I go to File > Options > Mail category and then I tab to the button "Signatures..." and activate it.
It puts me immediately on the OK button, if you tab forward you go to Cancel, than the email signatures tab, then the list of signatures, after that you have buttons for "New", "Delete" and "Rename", after that the drop-down fields where you select the signature you want for new messages and replys.
After that you have Font, font size and so on, eventually you get to a "Picture" and "Hyperlink" button and one tab after Hyperlink you are in the edit field.
Alternatively, you can simply press Shift+Tab once when you are on the OK button and that takes you into the edit field.
Now, for me when I just tried it the first time I arrived in the edit field either by tabbing forward or pressing Shift+Tab, I could not review the text of my signature. However, if I pressed tab and then once I was in the edit field I pressed it once more to get to OK and then pressed Shift+Tab to go back then I cou;ld review and edit the signature. Similarly if I pressed Shift+Tab right away I could not review the text, but pressing Shift+Tab once more to the "Hyperlink" button and then pressing tab again to go forward into the edit box I could then review and change the text.
I know this sounds complicated and I don't know why it doesn't work the first time you get to the edit field regardless whether it's by pressing tab a lot of Shift+Tab once I don't know, but this is how it works for me.

Yes, enter may give you these two options, but selecting the “left double click” option let’s you easily choose a Wi-Fi network if you are at a hotel or somewhere else without ever having to open Network Settings.

Hi Sharon,

What if you turn off the virtual cursor, with JAWS Key and Z?  Do the hotkeys work then?

I use windows 10 and the latest version of JAWS 2019. I have used office 365 for over a year, downloaded on my laptop. It has a work email on it. I have just accepted a faculty position to teach a summer course for the summer term and the university also uses office 365. I can log in using google chrome browser but the outlook through the university office 365 does not respond to keyboard commands for control n for new message and I am needing to tab everywhere to try to figure things out. Can I reset something to make keyboard commands work? Thank-you for any advice.

Re: Jaws not talking when tabing through the network section

Notice the hotkeys as well.  So I simply press Alt R to right click it, and get the options.

Hi, Maria. All you need to do to get the options is, when you use JAWS key plus F11, don’t press ENTER. Just TAB, and JAWS will say in order:

Right Single Click  Button

To activate press spacebar.

alt+R

Left Single Click  Button

To activate press spacebar.

alt+L

Left Double Click  Button

To activate press spacebar.

alt+D

Ok. That's what I get when using Narrator. How do I left and right click?

Here is what I get if I go to the System Tray with Jaws Key + F11, then to my Wi-Fi network which is called SJR and then activate with a left double click (the trick is that you have to take advantage of the Jaws options Left Single Click, Right Single Click and Left Double Click, enter does not work here, but that is why these options exist:

List box
SJR Connected, secured Signal 4 out of four bars 1 of 17 – here I can arrow down through the list of WiFi networks in range

If I tab I get the following:

Properties Link 1 of 1 – tab again

Disconnect Button 1 of 1 – tab again

Network & Internet settings Link – tab again

Wi-Fi Button checked – tab again

Airplane mode Button not checked – tab again

Mobile hotspot Button not checked – tab again

Network & Internet settings Link - if I keep tabbing from here the sequence from Wi-Fi button to Network and Internet Setting repeats.

Go over to your system tray then arrow to where jaws says your network name and press enter and try to tab around the screen. Jaws 2018 will not say anything unless I turn narrator

Yes, a good example of where one needs to launch Narrator since Jaws through 2019 seem to be mostly useless in there.

Hi,

Again, working for me.  I went to the JFW system tray list with JAWS Key and F11, then selected my network, pressed enter, and got Troubleshooting, or Open Network Sharing etc.  Everything speaks fine.

All the best

Let’s say someone from service desk wanted to manually install a package on your machine; that often requires a restart (sometimes two) and they would want to have the Teamviewer come up when the system restarts.
