I don't even know how to word this Jaws Question slides while video is playing in Windows Media

Sharon

I need to listen to videos located on a web site. I'm using Windows Media to listen to them. The lecturer refers to one slide after another. Is there a way to capture a slide so I can ocr it? How would I know if the slide changed to a new slide? I'm doubting whether any of this is even possible, but thought I'd ask. Much material is on the slide and he's only verbalizing a small part of the material.

For the record, in my 30 plus years in the computer arena, I have never seen a PC, desktop or laptop, that did not have a PrtSc key.  The PrtSc key is generally in the upper RIGHT corner or quadrant.  On my particular laptop it's the sixth key from the right edge of the very top row of keys, and immediately to its left is F12.

A short while ago I tested out the Keyboard Help function using NVDA, and it was announced as Print Screen.

No, it’s a key given the name “print screen”. On my keyboard, it is just to the left of the scroll lock key. I am not sure that all keyboards have one, particularly laptop keyboards. But as has been said, if you’re not sure where it is, JAWS keyboard help should give you a hand.

Press shift+PrintScreen, that places it on your clip board. Then you can paste from your clip board in to an email or document.

We've done work for several years using Lime, its great if you have a more complex survey, need question skipping or routing, or need to do analysis. It has a lot of advanced features and both the admin and user interfaces have historically been very JAWS friendly.

Addison, you have been told to use Insert 1 and then you can check all of the keys on the keyborad yourself and find the print key.

It would be helpful when you make inquiries if you used SHORT subject lines, such as print screen, rather than the long subject lines you use.  They are irritating when one is blind and must listen to a long list of emails.

That was supposed to be upper RIGHT corner of the keyboard for the Print Screen key.  I have no idea how I didn't catch that error, as I recall even thinking "right."

There is a JAWS webinar that should help a lot.

1. On the JAWS screen, press alt+h (help).
2. Press r (resources).
3. Press w (free webinars).
4. Arrow down to archived webinars and find a goldmine!

Good afternoon all,
I asked earlier in the week if Jaws and Microsoft 365 worked well
together. Someone posted that there is a tutorial. I did not make a
note of it so can someone please post it again? I now have 365
installed and am finding key commands are different.

Re: pros and cons of Office 365

Jason White

JAWS 2019 now separates the scripts for the Office 365 versions from scripts for older releases of Microsoft Office. This is said to improve performance, and, I suspect, reliability as well. Microsoft has also been making accessibility improvements that appear in the Office 365 updates.

I’m of course referring to the desktop Office 365 application, not the Web-based ones that are also included with the subscription.

Pros: you are always running the latest version, which is likely to have about the best support from Jaws.  Cons: you have to keep paying.  I switched from Office 2007 a couple of months back.  So far, I think it is worth the price, although $100 per year for my household is a lot more than the $10 a year that 2007 cost me.  Oh well, no such thing as a free lunch, except maybe a free office suite if it meets all of your needs.

One of the big advantages, in regard to taking screenshots under Windows 10, is eliminating the need to deal with the clipboard and an image editing program.

WinKey+PrtSc gets you a full screen screenshot, saved in a consistent location ready to e-mail or whatever.  WinKey+Alt+PrtSc gets you the tidy, windowed equivalent, and I use it more often than I do full screen screenshots.  There's generally tons of stuff up and running on my machine that have nothing to do with the window or dialog that I need to share with someone else.
