Setting Default Audio Output in Windows 10

Good evening everyone,

My wife works from here several days a week and uses a laptop supplied by her employer. She uses JFW under Windows 10. I'm not sure which release of Windows 10 is on that machine.

This machine only has one jack for plugging in external audio input and output devices. We have a set of external speakers we like to connect to this machine so the audio from JAWS will be clearer and so the person my wife reads to can hear her better. We hear Jaws just fine through the speaker on the laptop but getting the audio output to come through the exgternal speakers has been a bit of a challenge. Sometimes if the speakers are connected prior to powering this machine on no speech is heard but if they're disconnected she hears Jaws fine.

This afternoon she brought the laptop up to text it to be sure it will be ready for tomorrow. We got Jaws through the on-board speaker fine but not through the external speakers. When I plugged the speakers into the I/O jack a dialogue box came up asking us to choose an I/O setting. Several choices appeared. These included Mic,and line-in. Jaws reported that there were 9 different choices we could choose from. I'm guessing that we should have selected "Line-Out" to push the audio through the speakers when they're connected.
The problem is not with the speakers. I had them connected to another laptop for the past few days and tested them with my cell phone prior to connecting them to the work laptop. We could get audio through external speakers on this machine without trouble just fine but lately they've been rather flakey.

To prevent problems with this issue on this machine and on my new computer I plan to buy next year that will also have Windows 10 installed I want to know which setting must be selected to make audio play through external speakers when they're connected and how to save this choice as the default so Jaws and other audio will be heard through the external speakers when they're connected? Some tips and tricks to help us solve this issue will be very much appreciated.

Not having that problem here.  When I brought up spell check it mentioned what it had done and left me on a button that said review results, and then things were just like they always used to be.

In her Word 2016 text book, KathyAnn Murtha recommends either using the JAWS command alt+shift+l to locate misspelled words, or insert+z to invoke Word's quick keys, then the lletter m to locate misspelled words. Once you have found a misspelleing, use the applications key to suggest corrections.

auto complete isn't working in IE 11.

Hi all,

Recently, I have noticed that auto complete has quit working in IE 11. Auto complete works fine in outlook, but not in internet explorer. I have gone to content tab, and to auto complete settings. I have checked the box that says autocomplete is on. Is this a Microsoft issue due to updates in windows ten? I am running windows ten, 1803, and jaws 2018. Is there a way to fix this problem? Hmm.
If you are looking for a specific post, I believe they show up normally according to the last comment, chronologically. So in reverse order, but not necessarily in order of posting, if that makes sense.
If you keep clicking "see more", you should eventually find it.
Not the most efficient way to handle important stuff, certainly.

I can't find my groups or courses on the regular site either. And If I actyally do manage to find one, I can't find where to reply or comment. And I used to be able to do that at least a little better than now!

Use the report link located (I think) near the bottom of all facebook pages.

Good luck getting any action taken though. M.facebook.com is definitely not a priority for facebook. It took them months and months to fix the line-feed-in-comments problem and they still haven't fixed other things that have been broken.

I know it's a bit of an inconvenience, but consider using the regular site. It's cluttered, certainly, but much more reliable. I don't really bother with it myself because I don't use or care enough about facebook; these days I mostly just use it for private chat and to keep up with certain events. However, I'm not taking any courses as you are.

Use the report link located (I think) near the bottom of all facebook pages.

Good luck getting any action taken though. M.facebook.com is definitely not a priority for facebook. It took them months and months to fix the line-feed-in-comments problem and they still haven't fixed other things that have been broken.

I know it's a bit of an inconvenience, but consider using the regular site. It's cluttered, certainly, but much more reliable. I don't really bother with it myself because I don't use or care enough about facebook; these days I mostly just use it for private chat and to keep up with certain events. However, I'm not taking any courses as you are.

A lot of blind people use the mobile site, but there aren't a lot of blind people to begin with.  It would be nice if the mobile site was complete and working, but considering how many people are using fb on the desktop site or via an app, don't get your hopes up.

Using the mobile site is fine, but there are things you can't do there so using the full site can sometimes be better and while it is more cluttered you can definitely learn how to make the most of Jaws navigation quick keys and features to get to where you want to be.
