Regarding creating shortcuts to webpages using a browser other than the default browser, it can be done as I previously stated, just remember that you
must add the path to the browser’s executable first, then add the URL second. Also know that the entire browser path must be put in quotes or else the
shortcut won’t work.

Regarding creating shortcuts to webpages other than the default browser…

One must first include the path to the browser in quotes then add the URL to the webpage. Here’s an example:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

Take care.  Go Rams!

I type out everything I want to remember. That way instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it was, I spend the time looking for where I saved it!

Hello,

Not too long ago there was a discussion of how to make a shortcut to a
web site open with a particular browser that isn't your default

can't find the relevant posts. Would someone be good enough to refresh
my memory on how to accomplish this?

Specifically what I want to do is open the NLS BARD web site using

Thanks for any help.

If you are in the US, and perhaps other countries, you can connect free to an Aira agent when using JAWS and find something inaccessible and the agent can either guide you or click buttons as needed.

Hi all,

My PC is a Dell laptop running Windows 7 Entreprise Edition and Jaws 2019.

I was recently added to a Microsoft Teams group and I need to edit Word documents which are shared in this group.

The leader of this group sent a mail to all the people he invited with a link to the list of documents he initiated. The first time I clicked this link, I was requested to download the Microsoft Teams application. I did it and then installed it. Second time I clicked the link, Microsoft Teams opened up and showed me the list of document. I clicked on one of them and saw a menu with three options: Edit in Microsoft Team, Edit in Microsoft Word and Edit in Microsoft Word Online. I chose the second but, while Word was opening and loading the file, Teams showed a dialog box saying something like “Also feel free to edit the document in Teams” with a “close” button and a “ok” button. I clicked the “ok” button but nothing happened. Same with the “close” button.

During this time, Word could finish loading the document and I edited it as I wanted before saving it and then closing Word.

Back to Teams, Jaws did not show me anything, neither speaking, neither in Braille. When I tried to move the cursor, it always said “blank”. A sighted colleague got me out of this trap by clicking a “close” button in the document pane and Teams got back to the file list presented in a table.

However, does anyone know how to get out of such a trap when there is no way to have sighted assistance?

Another problem with Teams is that when I right click on its systray icon, Jaws says “menu” but no menu item is spoken. Is there a way to determine which items are displayed in the Teams systray icon context menu and to interact with them?

Many thanks in advance for any advice. Have a nice day. Chris D

Re: Taking out Hard and soft page breaks in Notepad after copying and pasting text

Matthew Horspool

Hi bill,
That works in Microsoft Word but not in Notepad, at least not on my Windows 7 computer at work! Perhaps it does under Windows 10.
In Notepad it is a real pain because there doesn't seem to be a way of typing a formfeed character directly, even though you can copy/paste them in or have some other program put them in for you. The solution, as far as I can find, is to manually find an instance of a formfeed character (hard page break, if you like), copy it to the clipboard, and then paste it into the "Find" box of the "Find/Replace" dialog. Leave the "Replace" field blank as Bill has already said.
Soft page breaks cannot be removed by their very nature. However, if they are caused by excessive line breaks, you can delete those. There isn't, as far as I know, a way of automating that process in Notepad though.
Where are you copying/pasting from? If Word, you might have better results removing all this white space in Word, following the instructions that Bill gave, and then copying/pasting the cleaned up text.
Matthew

Hi, Sharon. To remove special characters with the Find/Replace in Notepad:

for page breaks type ^p in the Find box; for paragraph breaks use ^m

The Caret is the number six on the numbers row with the Shift key.

In the Replace box don't type anything. Then TAB and click Replace All to remove all page or paragraph breaks

Thanks, I’ll give this a look-see. Need a full extractor. Probably something that can create an ISO or where I can have the full DVD content (including all extras) available for streaming. It’s fairly rare that we need this now. Thus my reluctance to pay for a full blown player or software, but so it goes. If I have to pay for a license, I guess.

Hello list,

I’m in search of a program that can rip DVDs with region codes. Is anyone aware of such a thing? The wife and I had a region code free DVD player for years, but that thing has long since died. We don’t want to buy a new DVD player for the odd-ball DVD she gets from Germany and figured it would make more sense to try to rip it for playback on other devices. Be it a computer or to burn on a new disk. We’ve tried Hand Break, but that doesn’t seem to work.

Again, to be clear, it needs to be able to bypass the region codes that restrict playback on devices in certain parts of the world. This is the particular issue we’re trying to overcome.

I’m a Jaws user, so anything that’s accessible would be preferred. Really though, just looking for something that will do the job.

Thanks,

Cristóbal

The only method that I've found to get JAWS to speak the number of items in a list is either to read the current line (insert-up arrow) or to press insert-tab.

Links in Footnotes No Longer Have the Underline nor are They Announced "Link" in MS Word 2016 with JAWS 2019

Richard B. McDonald

Hi!

Once I began editing my Word document in MS Word 2016 after starting it in MS Word 2007, it seems that the format for a link within a footnote (at least there) are not the same.  The links created in 2007 are blue with a single underlined and JAWS announces “link” when I navigate to it, all as expected.  However, the newest links I created in 2016 are not underlined nor does JAWS announce “link.”  They are blue, though.

Does anyone else have this problem?  Does anyone know how to make the format and JAWS behavior for my 2016 links like those for my 2007 links?

Thanks,

Richard

I don't know yet how to make JAWS read the item counts automatically. Using 2019, with Details view as my choice, I can use insert+up arrow or insert+tab to get the information, and it is accurate. It might be interesting to try to analyze which settings on the View tab of the ribbon are different if you can't do this with those keystrokes.
