Re: how to get to the options menu

Hi Net bat,

I can open options by pressing, Insert + J, or by pressing enter on the system tray icon.  This works on both my Win7 & 10 computers.  Maybe your screen isn't maximized or something simple like that.  Have you tried rebooting or maybe a reinstall.

Take care.  Mike.  Sennt from my iBarstool.

Bill,

Have you checked the Keyboard Manager to see if that key combination is no longer mapped to a script?

I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but the command for Drag and Drop (CONTROL plus JAWS Key plus NumPad slash has been removed from JAWS Version 2019.1903.9. The command is still listed, though, in the help file, and in the Command Search (JAWS Key plus SPACE, followed by J.)

I’m not sure if there is some Windows setting I have engaged (or not), but I always see on these lists and elsewhere that people have trouble getting the JAWS cursor to function as it used to in Windows 10. Mine still works as it always has in all but the occasional very very rare instance (I can’t recall the last time it got “stuck), on my Windows 10 64-bit system.

But of course, I don’t really use many of the modern/universal style apps at all; that could also be an indicator.

I get that here as well, depending on what context I'm in.  Otherwise I get nothing.

I suspect the days of using the jaws cursor like a mouse and navigating with it are coming to an end rapidly, that's why they are letting the feature die, if they are.

F6 should do it. I always use alt-v, then h. It is a carry-over from
before the ribbon. To insert a header is alt+n, then h.

Copy and paste work in the areas where they are supposed to work. And that's good. I sure use them a lot too. But as has been said, it's not the same thing; not all software has an edit menu with those options and not all items are clipboard accessible. It's kind of an essential feature and yes, it's probably worth making a fuss about.

Same guys who tell you to format your entire system rather than try to help you fix a simple problem.

I think that’s why I tried to learn as much as possible about the oS in particular, after getting that advice from an ISP phone tech support guy in the early 2000s.

Ok, yes, in that case, I agree with you. I’d even go as far as to say it’s absolutely a necessary task to be able to accomplish with the keyboard, even if one doesn’t have to use it much. Sure, copy and paste will work for text, files, etc, in most cases, but not all software is designed to be used that way. I’d love to know their reasons…

As you've already noted, there are plenty of instances where nothing else will do.  This decision makes no sense as it emulates an essential function under Windows which sometimes absolutely must be used.
