Good idea, Steve, and that's what I did, sent them a help request. I've not
as yet gotten my stuff straightened out, but I've learned the following:
There are 4 ways of signing up, work, via Google, via Facebook, or single
subscriber option (SSO) If you are an SSO subscriber, you can not change
your email address, and you have to contact technical support for that. They
did call me this morning, but I was out, and my husband answered. They told
him they would email me, which I wish he'd told them not to do... "Call her
back, for crying out loud!" Well, he didn't say that, so I've called again
and left another very polite message...

Re: adding a hollow square bullet in word

Lisa,

          Then the instructions should definitely work, as I did the step-by-steps to create them using Word 2016.  I like the hollow square of Wingdings best because it's got a bit of visual weight to it, like a bullet should.   There are other options, too, and if you end up wanting something that floats a bit more lightly on the page I can suggest the Symbol font, character number 240.

Brian thank you for the instructions! The version of word is 2016.

Lisa,

           Also, if whoever is specifying this bullet is very picky, find out what font they want it to be pulled from.  There are scads of hollow square or hollow very-nearly-square characters across multiple fonts that one could choose.   If they have an existing document using that particular bullet, you can more easily determine precisely what character they want.

           Otherwise, here are the steps to pick an hollow square as your bullet using the Wingdings font to choose the character from:

1. In your document, insert a bulleted list using ALT+H, U

2. The select bullet dialog comes up, hit D to activate Define bullet.

3. In the Define Bullet dialog, hit ALT+S for Symbol

4. In the Symbol Dialog, choose Wingdings from the dropdown for fonts, which should have focus upon entry to the dialog.

5. Hit ALT+C to get to the character number box, enter 111 in that box, which is the number for the hollow square character in Webdings.

6. Activate OK button out of Symbol dialog.

7. Activate OK button out of Define Bullet dialog.

8. Begin typing your first list item.

After having done this, the hollow square should appear first in the recently used bullets, which show up right after hitting ALT+H,U.  You can select it directly from there after having defined it for the first time, or go through the whole process above (which is much faster than it seems once you've done it).

using extentions successfully in chrome using jaws2019

hi,
i have a problem with picture smart.
with jaws 19 newest release. 64bit windows 7.
it will not scan a picture. as soon as i tell it to use my dell b1165 mono all
in one printer it says finished, could not detect text. but the scanner light does not even move.
the rest of the program is working with images in the picture smart folder.
is there any preference settings that can be changed in the program?
my scanner works fine with openbook 8 and the windows paint program with windows 7 64bit.
thanks for info.

Does anyone know how to add a hollow square bullet in Microsoft word? I am required to use that type of bullet for a project. Any help with this would be appreciated.

I fixed this one before.  I don't have the exact page I used, but this one has the gist:

By default, chrome blocks files with names that google doesn't know are safe.  Disabling it is the only way to download things like pdf's from places that seem to randomly generate the name on request.

Re: sounds for Firefox

There are no settings that I can find in Extra Sounds, and from the reviews it seems as though it's intended to bring back navigational sounds as they were.  It is experimental but was updated last in December 2018.

Sonance appears to be an ambient sound generator, not tied to user actions.  I can't find anything under the name Noise and Click.

sounds for Firefox

Mario

I'd like to add sounds to Firefox such as we had in Navigational Sounds
for the older versions of FF. I stopped using the Quantum versions
because of the lack of sounds which used to indicate what was going on.
I found one called Extra Sounds, Sonance, Noise and Click but can't
figure out how to access it's settings to mod or just see what sounds it
can use. maybe there's one that's more usable for us blind users. does
anyone have any suggestions or can help with the ones I mentioned?

having a problem using chrome to download the latest update to jaws.

Jim Rawls

Hi all,

I’m new to chrome, so bear with me. When I select the download link to download the latest update to jaws, I hear a message that says, this type of file could harm your computer. Do you want to allow, and then it gives the name of the update? Where do I say yes? I see a keep button so I hit enter on it or space bar, and it keeps asking me the same question. How do I get past this? I am using windows ten and jaws 2019 previous update. Jim

place marker doesn't work in word anymore

mike mcglashon

Hey guys:

I don’t know what I did, but,

My place marker in word doesn’t work anymore;

I get the following message.

A protected document or form cannot be marked for returning to a marked place later.

I thought this has something to do with protected versus unprotected files, for read only and such;

When I go into the properties, it doesn’t say protected under file attributes;

Also,

When I hit the f6 in word, I don’t get a thing that says “be careful, files from the internet can be unsae” or whatever that is that I have to hit to unprotect the file;

Please assist;

Without this feature, it is difficult to copy and paste from one doc to another?

Please advise as you like.

Re: jaws updates

Steve Nutt

Hi Guys,

You could always try setting it to read-only.

Go into the properties for the shortcut, with Alt+Enter, then left arrow to the General page and tick the box that says Read Only.

I don't know if it will work, but there you have it.

I don't use the shortcut any more, because it's just as easy to go to the Run menu Windows+R and type JAWS2019, all with no spaces then enter.

All the best

Steve

Hi,

To add to this, Control+1 is single line, Control+2 is double and Control+5 is 1.5 line spacing.

You need to select everything you want to have double spaced and then, ctrl + 2 will double space it.
