I have always received a newsletter Email from FS announcing the release of the update including links to the update files.
I have not received that Email yet and wonder where the other members of this list found out about the release of the update.

Thanks,

It's been a very, very long time since FS sent out any kind of product
update email. Eric D used to send them out himself, but that was back before
FS was FS I believe. Regardless, it's been long enough that I can't remember
the last one.

My student now owns a perpetual licensed copy of JFW. I would like to remove the annual license authorization for her computer and replace it with the ILM version. I supposed go to help and uninstall. what happens to the authorization indicator when I do that? Does it need to go to an external medium, or does it just disappear into oblivion able to be accessed through the estore/portal somehow???

Thanks,

It would be interesting to know if you get this same reaction when using NVDA. Lately, Chrome has been crashing a lot, and Ctrl+W, which ought to close a single tab, closes the browser. A knowledgeable user ai talked to told me that this happens much less with NVDA. According to him, FS said they cannot replicate the problem. He has reported it to Google.

Also, you know in Chrome settings that you can set PDF's to download rather than display in Chrome. But it doesn't sound like you are displaying in Chrome, so you may already have done this.

Sieghard, just curious... if one falls behind in renewing their SMA and
decides to switch to purchasing the annual subscription, do they pay for
one subscription to update to the latest version therefore skipping
payment for the versions where they stopped, or do they have to pay for
each version that leads up to the latest version?

If you buy Jaws you should absolutely and positively buy the SMA with
it and, unless you for some reason absolutely can't afford it you should
maintain that SMA. Given the relatively rapid development of Windows 10,
you will find that in 2 or 3 or 4 years you may not be able to get the
best experience from Windows 10 unless you also have the latest release
of Jaws, furthermore new features are added which often can be very
useful such as Picture Smart in Jaws 2019 or the new Jaws Scan cursor in
Jaws 2020 which kicks in whenever you open a Windows 10 app such as the
Calculator etc. If you don't get an SMA which entitles you to two full
upgrades and you want to upgrade, say in 3 years, you then basically
have to buy two sMA'S, the first to cover you for the two versions you
missed and another to get you up to date. For example:

Say you now buy Jaws 2020 along with an SMA. This will get you full
access to Jaws 2020 and it will also entitle you to get Jaws 2021 and
Jaws 2022.
Lets assume you buy Jaws 2020 without SMA, but in the fall of 2022 you
want to get Jaws 2023.
You would then have to buy two SMA's, one to cover Jaws 2021 and Jaws
2022, then a second SMA which would then get you Jaws 2023 and entitle
you to Jaws 2024.
In the end you pay the same except you have to pay for two SMA's all
at once and you may actually pay more because often if you buy an SMA
right away you get it for a slightly lesser price. I believe you are in
India and I don't know how it is handled there, but I believe in the US
and Canada you get a bit of a discount if you buy a new SMA within a
couple of months after the old one runs out.

Yes I think you are  right. When I was in work I had  to use Jaws Professional  as we used XP Pro.   In those days I was only allowed 3 activations. I changed to Home for obvious reasons once I had retired to save money as work was no longer updating Jaws and Professional was no longer needed on what was then a Home Windows 7 system.

It may be now that Jaws Professional Activations has increased to 5 but it most definitely did not in previous years  when I worked as I had to manage my activations just as carefully as now.

The link you provided is for the Enterprise license which works with Jaws Professional but has nothing at all to do with how a "normal" person would use/license Jaws Professional.

It even says in the article:

EOTSS has converted its licenses for JAWS for Windows to Enterprise Licenses.  This allows up to ten (10) concurrent users to connect to the Freedom Scientific license server for using JAWS.

If you try to connect when all licenses are already in use, JAWS will launch in "Demo mode," which will work for only 40 minutes.

Please be sure to close JAWS on your computer when you are done using it so the license will be available to other users.

This is a setup for organizations where a server is used to control the licensing, Jaws pro is installed on individual computers or workstations, but it looks to the server to see if it can run without restrictions or whether it needs to go into demo mode. It is my understanding an organization can buy as many licenses as they want, e.g. they could have a Jaws license server which allows for 100 users to connect. This is different from somebody who in the past needed Jaws Professional because they were running Windows XP Professional back in the day when if you had XP Pro you actually needed Jaws professional because Jaws Home would only run on the home version of an OS. I think with Windows 7 that requirement was no longer necessary, e.g. you could run Windows 7 Professional with a Jaws Home license, however, if you have Jaws professional and use it for your own purposes or in your own business where maybe you have 2 or 3 or 5 PC's then I think theoretically the 3 PC rule still applies although I have it on my laptop and 4 PC's at work and it has always activated for me.

Regards,

Hello members,

I am currently using JAWS 2020  commercial license in my office and I am interested to purchase JAWS 2020  Home edition for my personal use.

Is there is a difference in the functionalities while using various applications in both the editions-home and commercial version?

I have got Windows 10 home edition in my personal laptop.

Also is it a good idea to purchase SMA along with JAWS?

Thanks,

If you buy Jaws you should absolutely and positively buy the SMA with it and, unless you for some reason absolutely can't afford it you should maintain that SMA. Given the relatively rapid development of Windows 10, you will find that in 2 or 3 or 4 years you may not be able to get the best experience from Windows 10 unless you also have the latest release of Jaws, furthermore new features are added which often can be very useful such as Picture Smart in Jaws 2019 or the new Jaws Scan cursor in Jaws 2020 which kicks in whenever you open a Windows 10 app such as the Calculator etc. If you don't get an SMA which entitles you to two full upgrades and you want to upgrade, say in 3 years, you then basically have to buy two sMA'S, the first to cover you for the two versions you missed and another to get you up to date. For example:

Say you now buy Jaws 2020 along with an SMA. This will get you full access to Jaws 2020 and it will also entitle you to get Jaws 2021 and Jaws 2022.
Lets assume you buy Jaws 2020 without SMA, but in the fall of 2022 you want to get Jaws 2023.
You would then have to buy two SMA's, one to cover Jaws 2021 and Jaws 2022, then a second SMA which would then get you Jaws 2023 and entitle you to Jaws 2024.
In the end you pay the same except you have to pay for two SMA's all at once and you may actually pay more because often if you buy an SMA right away you get it for a slightly lesser price. I believe you are in India and I don't know how it is handled there, but I believe in the US and Canada you get a bit of a discount if you buy a new SMA within a couple of months after the old one runs out.

For anyone who may want it, I created a MS-Word document template several years ago for a #10 standard business sized envelope that is screen-reader accessible and has two fields, one for the return address and the other for the address.  Both should be announced when landed in by the screen reader and can be repeated if you hit the help key.  There is nothing in this other than the envelope, so you don't have to deal with an "orphan page" for a letter.

The return address is always positioned pretty much perfectly.  The main address will always be near the center of the envelope but depending on how many lines you have may or may not be perfectly positioned vertically.

Marty,

I'm sorry, but I can't help with this as I don't have either the version of Office you're using nor a Windows 7 machine with it running on it.  The template was originally created using Word 2010, but that should have been fully backward compatible with Word 2007.

I hope someone else can assist.   If this is occurring under Windows 10 with Office 2010 or later and someone else has this issue, please let me know and I'll see what I can find.

Right now my time is very, very limited as I am stage managing a production of The Wind in the Willows for ShenanArts that will be opening on Friday, November 17th.  As anyone who's ever done theater knows, the last two weeks prior to opening are insane!   I'm off to the theater in mere minutes to climb to the top of a very tall ladder to assist in hanging lighting instruments.

Hi

I have attempted to use the mail feature in Office 2013.  Where I have problems is selecting different envelope sizes.  When I do that, then the delivery address gets messed up.  There is part of this mail option which JAWS does not read well, at least the last time I tried to use it a year or so ago.  I did discuss it with Microsoft and concluded it was a JAWS issue since Narrator read it fine.  I did report it to VFO and was told it would be put on the list of fixes.  I took this to mean it could be a very, very long time for this to work.

Any ideas on using this feature easier?  I did not have such issues in Office 2007.

Barbara

Brian,  I have downloaded your envelope template, but can’t seem to move between fields.  I only hear JAWS say “Return Address edit”.  Tabbing and arrowing do nothing.  I am using MS Word 2007 and JAWS 2019 on a Windows 7 computer.
