Hello,

Go to the Jaws icon on your desktop, then press alt+enter.  Tab to where it says Jaws Hot key none.  Press j then press insert+up arrow to confirm that it is Control Alt J.  Tab to ok, then press continue.  Hope this helps.

Are you sure you aren't using any of those for other versions of Jaws? Go

into the properties for Jaws 2019 and see what the shortcut is. I don't know

how many versions of Jaws you have on your system, but I assume it isn't

unlikely that you have at least Jaws 2019 and Jaws 2020 and a keyboard

shortcut combination can of course only be used once.

For some weird reason when I go to the properties of JAWS 2020, it won't

I've tried Alt CTRL J, I've tried CTRL Shift J and no luck.

So how can I get a short cut for JAWS created?

Many Thanks.

You can do this by making changes in the Navigation Quick Key Manager. Unfortunately, there is not as much flexibility there as I would like.  You can only use letters and numbers, and there isn’t a lot of wiggle room because most are already used.

I’ll explain my personal setup.  Obviously, this works for me, may not work for you.

I seldom use the P key to navigate by paragraphs.  I use even less the I key to navigate from list item to list item.

So I have assigned Place Marker to P, thereby freeing up the unassigned Any Link key to be assigned to K.  though I may not need it, I assigned Paragraph to I.

Once you assign Any Link to some letter or number, you can use it like any other quick key, and it is very nice to have.

Tab will go from link to link and of course Jaws Key + F7 pulls all links on a website into a list view which is sorted in alphabetical order.

Hi group,

Using Jaws 2019. I want to use a single key to go through web site links, whether visited or not. I faintly recall this mentioned on here at some point. If I could use the U and V plus another key to hit unvisited, visited and all links, respectively, I would love it. I’m sure there is a way to do this, I’m just not familiar with everything Jaws has under the hood. Thanks for your help!

Hay list friends,  Well, I did it.  I Was able to DJ for my daughter's sweet 16 party using a Windows 10 laptop connected to a PA system and Winamp and JAWS 2019.  Everything went well except for one little hitch.  When I would do some other task on the computer while running Winamp and switch back to Winamp, I would loose JAWS speaking when arrowing up and down in the playlist.  I would have to restart JAWS and things would work fine. JAWS would continue to work, just not in the play list. This would happen when I would go to Windows Volume mixer to make adjustments to the computer audio output level.  Is there a reason that I would loose some JAWS functionality with Winamp after switching back?  You may remember that I was able to get JAWS to speak the playlist by changing the Winamp skin to Classic.

Not a 2020 user yet, but that seems like expected behaviour. When you use
alt+v to get into the menu, the JAWS cursor doesn't follow you. If you don't
route PC to JAWS, you should stay in the menu and just be able to use the PC
cursor to navigate as you always do. If you want to be able to read the menu
with the JAWS cursor, you need to do the reverse--route jaws to PC.

As soon as I try to route pc to jaws to see the options in the view menu it
goes out of the menu mode and back to the list of messages.
Yes, I'm still using WLM for my mail package.
Any thoughts on how to fix this would be deeply appreciated it.

Hi,

As glen mentioned, place markers are really helpful for web based software
like this. I've worked in various companies which use these types of systems
for sales, bookings etc. when I first start and get an understanding of the
software and the fields I'll use and in which order, I'll set place markers
everywhere over pages I'll need to access, and use the 'find next place
marker key' every time I need to jump to the next section/field I need to
get to if its not the next field jaws would naturally take me too using the
tab key. I don't believe my company had anything specially scripted for me,
but again like I said I don't know how many of sales forces features our
company/my particular department used and it was two years ago now at
least, so things could have changed since then. I never tried the iPhone app
for sales force though.

There are a lot of tools available for situations like this.
If you are looking for a regular area of the screen, you can put a place marker and then just press the letter K to jump to it.
Or visited links will help.
And then there is the Jaws search, control + F and type in part of what you are looking for and press enter.
If it is not what you want, press F3 to continue looking further down the page.

Bill,

Thank you for the info.  Narrator came on but it didn’t help.  When I pressed tab, narrator would say tab and when I pressed up or down arrow it would say up arrow or down arrow.  Jaws won’t speak on that computer and I thought narrator might help me figure out why.  That computer has Windows 7 and Jaws 16.  I guess I’ll have to wait until I have sighted help available to tell me what’s on the screen and get Jaws speaking.
