Hello list-members:

Although I have been a JAWS user since 1989, (both in the workplace and at home), I’ve not ventured very far from the standard uses of JAWS beyond  familiar applications.

At present, I am involved in some ESL tutoring here in the Twin Cities. Not surprisingly, a lot of visual props are used in various lessons to further assist in learning new vocabulary. What I would like  to do is create a worksheet that includes vocabulary words, or sentences where the word is used and in some instances include a picture next to or below the word or sentence: not sure about formatting here.)

There are a number of websites that offer a diversity of photos/images that can be used in the area of literacy instruction. I am reaching out to persons on this list that can provide direction in combining text an pictures in creating a worksheet. I would guess it’s a matter of copying the photo into the Word file that contains the electronic worksheet. Also, as is sometimes the case, is this the kind of process where some sighted help is recommended to make sure that everything is aligned properly?

Any and all help is appreciated.

Best to all of you, Justin

Funny you mentioned that.  Because for the sighted my JAWS reads too fast for them to understand it.  The VIP or blind, it is too slow.  The thing is, I live with 2 sighted people and to listen to JAWS at a high speed then listening to them is like driving a racing car around a track then it slams into 30 Mph(50 Kms) to much for my meager brain to take.

For any power user of a computer who needs and wants to work fast and requires the most responsiveness there is little which beat Eloquence. Maybe some hardware synthesizers are equal to Eloquence in speed and responsiveness, but Eloquence has achieved this while also adding better speech quality. Is it human sounding? Absolutely not, but the problem is that the more human sounding a synthesizer is the less pleasant is it to listen to it at high speed. Alexa, the Google Home voice as well as SIRI along with several of the high-end voices from Vocalizer, Neospeech and other companies sound great, but they only do so at normal human speaking speed.

Then it's like one of these ads where some guy at the end reads a bunch of restrictions very fast and in a monotone sort of voice and it just sounds weird. I think Eloquence to me is simply the gold standard when it comes to synthetic voices, you can run it fast and I find it much clearer and easier to listen to then something like DoubleTalk or eSpeak. I should mention that I started using computers during a time when it was all hardware synthesizers, I never had DecTalk or DoubleTalk but started out in 1989 with Jaws and the "Accent" synthesizer.

Below is a demo I found of Accent, I hadn't heard that thing in decades, but it instantly sounded familiar:

Yes.  You can get used to a different synthesizer, if it fixes your problem . The vocalizer Tom voice is quite responsive on my 5-year-old core i5 system.

Question On Outlook Message Deletion

Tom Behler

Hello, everyone.

Occasionally, I will copy myself on an Outlook e-mail message, because the message is very important, and I want to be sure it has been sent.

Recently, I have noticed that if I delete the received message copy from my inbox, it is also deleted from my sent file.

Is there a way I can configure Outlook so that the message remains in my sent file, even though it has been deleted from my inbox?

I’m using the Office 365 version of Outlook 2016 with Windows 10 and the latest build of Jaws 2019.

Thank you!

Dr.  Tom Behler from Michigan

I can definitely see how people who are used to using Eloquence or something like DoubleTalk at fairly high rates will not like Tom, Samantha or other human sounding voices. I am the same way, I have been using Eloquence for over 20 years and the human sounding voices just don't sound good when you run them very fast.

It was just a test to eliminate an issue. but the attitude is not going to help you get answers...
If you have reinstalled everything, eliminated the triple talk and did a repair of jaws 2019. Checked all video sound and chip set drivers  then at this point you can go back to 2018 or call FS. There isn't any reason for the issues you are having.
of course you could just dump MS office and go with another office suite and e-mail client. I don't know why people put up with all these issues when there are alternatives out there.

You asked for suggestions and me and at least one other person suggested to try Eloquence, but you are not interested in trying it. There is no reason why typing in Outlook on an I7 PC with 8 Gb of RAM should be sluggish unless something else is going on. Trying Eloquence is just one thing you could do to see if it makes a difference or not. I won’t try to come up with further suggestions if you already decided they won’t work, maybe it’s time for a completely fresh install of Windows, Office and Jaws. The only time this ever happened to me was for a bit last year on my I3 system which I think is a sixth generation and it also happened to my sighted employees when Jaws wasn’t running. This seems to have resolved itself, the system still isn’t super fast, but I can type just fine in Outlook.

It is comparatively low quality, the sample rate is 11 KHZ, but this is good enough for me and many others and means in part that Eloquence uses a minimum of resources.

Actually, I strongly believe it is what you get used to.  I didn't like vocalizer at first, but I run it all the time now ad I'm used to it.  The thing that really helps is that I run it on my phone as well, so it is the same everywhere.  I grew up on the Votrax, artic and Braille'n speak.  I never cared for eloquence, especially the version that comes with jaws since it sounds like the low quality telephone-bandwidth version.

When I type a number into a cel and press tab, JAWS speaks all the digits
except the first one. So '23' becomes '3', "2003'
becomes "003", '2203' becomes '203', and so on. Am I the only one
