Hello Netbat. Read and follow the instructions carefully from Sieghard
and you find the acc option in jaws setting center.

Scripts? Not sure I get what you are saying.
This is in Jaws Settings Centre with Default Settings loaded under
Miscellaneous, here it is item 9 of 17, just before "Use virtual ribbon
menu".
If you don't have this item you may want to consider a Jaws repair, I am on
the Jaws beta team and I have never heard of anybody who doesn't have this
item, personally I have 5 computers at my business and a laptop at home and
it's there on all of them. Did you by any chance uninstall the video display
driver under Apps and Features? I assume maybe then you may not have this
setting since there is no accessibility driver which can be toggled on or
off.

Sieghard

Hello Anna

To my personal experience I would say that NVDA fills most of your needs for home use. I mean if you use your computer just for mailing, basic word processing and media playing, that's good. But honnestly, i perosnnaly use both depending on the situation. There are cases where NVDA can detect things that Jaws doesn't and vice-versa. For example, on Windows 10 modern apps, NVDA makes the job better than Jaws. But on the Internet, I prefer using Jaws because it is smarter in rendering content.

For professional use,  to my opinion, Jaws is far more powerful, typically when you have to use dedicated job apps that are more and more web based applciations, or simply for using with Powerpoint..

But all of this is only my own point of view.

Hi Costas,

Well, I'm glad it was such an easy solution and this worked for you.
It's not always so easy, I switch back and forth many times a day between using the accessibility display driver and not using it because even inside one application, my accounting software, some screens don't read at all when it is checked but do when it is not and vice versa.

As much as you may not like this answer, there may not be a good
solution for this.
The Jaws cursor under Windows 10 has not nearly as much access to
information as it did under Windows 7 simply because of how Microsoft
allows screenreaders to get access to what is on the screen. I use a
couple of applications at my store for accounting and my point of sale
where I have similar issues.
Vispero is working on this and you could try and see what happens if
you turn off the accessibility display driver which is what Jaws has
been using for a long time to get information. Do the following and
then open your program and see if it helped:

1. Open Jaws Settings Center with Jaws Key + 6 on the number row 2.
Make sure you have the default settings loaded by pressing Control +
Shift + D 3. Type "acc" (the first 3 letters of accessibility) in the
search box, then tab once and you should have the following two
results:
Speak Access Keys Within Web Pages checked, Reading
Use Accessibility
Driver for Screen Capture checked, Miscellaneous not checked 4.
Press the spacebar on the second option, Use Accessibility Display
Driver" to clear the checkbox 5. Tab twice to OK and activate it.
6. Make sure you remember or keep these steps because you may find
that some applications work better with the old accessibility display
driver checked and some may work better when it is unchecked.
And there is a bit of good news, Vispero is working on restoring more
of the old Jaws cursor functionality with the new so-called GDI

Hi all:

The problem with the imported from IE folder drove me crazy for a while, but
after doing some serious thinking and exploring, if you take the following
steps carefully, you would not have to worry about it:

1. While in Chrome, open Bookmarks manager, control+shift+o.
2. tab to the treeview, and use your up and down arrows until you find
imported from IE folder and press enter to choose it.
3. tab to the bookmark list.
4. press the home key to take you to the top of this list.
5. press shift+end key to select from current location to the end of
the list.
6. cut the selection, control+x.
7. GO back to the treeview, shift+tab.
8. Use your up and down arrows and find bookmarks bar, and press enter
to choose it.
9. tab to the bookmark list.
10. paste your folders and bookmarks, control+v.
11. GO back to the treeview, shift+tab.
12. Use your up and down arrows and find Imported from IE, and press
enter to choose it.
13. press the delete key and get rid of it.

If you don't like where your bookmarks are being saved, do the following:

1. when on a page you want to save, press control+d to add bookmark.
2. You are focused on the edit box for the name.
3. If you don't like the name, Type over the name since its selected
and press tab to go to the next option.
4. If you like the name, then press tab to go the next option.
5. You are now on the bookmark folder button menu.
6. If you don't want the current folder, press spacebar to open it and
use the up and down arrows to choose a folder you want and press enter to
choose it.
7. if you don't want it in a sub folder, then choose bookmarks bar.
8. It is important to remember that Chrome remembers the last folder
you choose.
9. Once you are hhappy with the folder, press tab until you find the
done button and press enter to choose it.

Hi all: I actually do alt-d to highlight the url in the address bar;
copy it to the clipboard. If I'm on a hunt for something and want to save a

write som e identifier above the url; apst it in on its own line below the
identifier. When I have the ones I want to put into favorites; I call up old
Internet Explorer and do control-o; paste in the url; then alt-a to grab
that as a favorite. I do the same with the ones I've caught with Crome. So;
basically; I'm still using IE--instead of getting a third-party favorites

Hi Sharron,

I actually found bookmarks the hardest transition when I first moved from IE
to chrome, but now use chrome all the time and almost never use IE any more.
One tip I can give regarding bookmarks which I found really helpful with
Chrome is there is a key combination to quickly access bookmarks in a list
similar to how IE displays them. If you press and hold ALT and then press F
(it should say context menu at this stage), then release alt and f, press b
(it should say something like bookmarks sub menu), simply press right cursor
key and you're in the list of bookmarks. I realised As I wrote that it
actually sounds more complicated than it actually is , but I do find this
key stroke a really quick and easy way of accessing bookmarks in chrome.
Hope that helps.

I don't think there is one best web browser. The chromium-based ones are
okay, although I try to avoid actual google chrome because of its spying.
I'd much rather use brave it blocks ads and lets me read things where other
browsers just say you have to subscribe or allow ads. I like firefox for
the fact that its menus aren't buried quite as deep as chromium-based
browsers. Other than the menus they all basically work the same, so there
really is no reason to restrict yourself to only using one browser.

There are a few websites I use all the time that chrome seems to screw
around with, so IE is my default browser.
If there is something screwing up with IE (most recently logging into
ebay with a google account) I'll use chrome and see if it handles it
better, often it does. Also, IE has a habit of crashing.

What frustrates me each time I try to use IE for whatever reason (extremely

Don't give up on IE yet. It will occasionally work when others wont do what
you need them too. The truth is you need multiple browsers because each will
work in a situation where the others wont. the new Chromium based Edge is
pretty good. I use it as my default browser and use IE and Firefox on
occasion. There will never be a single work on every webpage browser for
us.

Vivaldi is not nearly as easy to use as advertised and I haven't tried water
fox or Brave but I will be after reading this.

As much as you may not like this answer, there may not be a good solution
for this.
The Jaws cursor under Windows 10 has not nearly as much access to
information as it did under Windows 7 simply because of how Microsoft allows
screenreaders to get access to what is on the screen. I use a couple of
applications at my store for accounting and my point of sale where I have
similar issues.
Vispero is working on this and you could try and see what happens if you
turn off the accessibility display driver which is what Jaws has been using
for a long time to get information. Do the following and then open your
program and see if it helped:

1. Open Jaws Settings Center with Jaws Key + 6 on the number row
2. Make sure you have the default settings loaded by pressing Control +
Shift + D
3. Type "acc" (the first 3 letters of accessibility) in the search box, then
tab once and you should have the following two results:
Speak Access Keys Within Web Pages checked, Reading
Use Accessibility
Driver for Screen Capture checked, Miscellaneous
not checked
4. Press the spacebar on the second option, Use Accessibility Display
Driver" to clear the checkbox
5. Tab twice to OK and activate it.
6. Make sure you remember or keep these steps because you may find that some
applications work better with the old accessibility display driver checked
and some may work better when it is unchecked.
And there is a bit of good news, Vispero is working on restoring more of the
old Jaws cursor functionality with the new so-called GDI hooking method
which is basically what Jaws uses to get information when the accessibility
display driver is unchecked.
Lastly, you may want to try the touch cursor with your program and see if
you get anything with that, you can activate it by pressing Shift + PC
Cursor (Numpad +), press the PC cursor twice quickly to deactivate the touch
cursor again. You can read more about it here:
Jaws Help > Help topics > Using Jaws > About cursors > Using the Touch
cursor

I've generally found brokerages to be unwilling to make accessibility changes. A lot of it has to do with their graphs being so tightly integrated with their platforms.

Not sure, the post  button is right there for me, though it’s labelled “comment button”. Perhaps facebook is temporarily broken for you. They have a number of servers and they’re not all always fully functional at the same time. If you tab once from the field you type into m.facebook.com though to leave a comment, you should normally find that button immediately using firefox.

What has been pointed out by the two prior correspondents, that this question is too vast to be tidily answered, and that the answers are entirely based on what one is trying to accomplish and under what specific circumstances, are both absolutely true.

I tutor JAWS but have never owned it (other than to have a copy in 40-minute mode) because of its expense.  I used (and still use) NVDA often when I'm even trying to figure out something for one of my JAWS clients, as the overlap is extensive and once you know where the differences lie "translation" between the command set for the two is not all that difficult.

With the introduction of Narrator, and the amount of work Microsoft has been putting into it (and is continuing to do so) there is definitely a "new kid on the block" for Windows 10 (and I think Windows 8.1) users as well.

Invariably there are situations where one screen reader "plays better" with a given application, website, etc., than another does.  You may only be able to be fully proficient with one, but it's not that difficult to get basically proficient with others, and it's distinctly to your advantage to do so.
