Share this website with us, perhaps there is a problem from the other side. If you use insert +F7 and find the link you want, simply hit enter and it should activate. Otherwise, it surely could be an accessibility issue as well.

OK I used insert key F7 to get a links list and went to activate link and still nothing happens.
When I have sighted help use a physical mouse to click on the link a list of options opens more like a combo box. Any ideas as how to get to it with Jaws?

moderated Question about JAWS find.

fenderwal@...

Hi, everybody.

Does anybody know if JAWS is in forms mode when the JAWS find feature is used?

JAWS sort of stumbles over edit boxes and other controls when the Tab key is the links hot key, so I tried using the l and shift+l keys for move to next and prior links, with weird results. Rather than allowing the l key to be used to type the l character, JAWS focus jumped out of the search edit box to who knows where, because nothing in the find dialog uses the l as a shortcut. Odder still is that when the l key default was in place, there was no problem.

I'd appreciate any insights. Still trying to figure out what's under the hood, so to speak.

Try JAWS Key plus F7 to open the links list.
Then find the link you wish to open in the links list, and TAB to Activate Link.
Once you reach Activate Link, try using Space Bar or ENTER.

Barbara <batterseye@...>

Hi

I am assuming you are referring to the Windows calculator.  If not, disregard my message.

Once the calculator is open and you want to enter your numbers, I usually use the numbers above the letters, but I would assume you could use the num pad.  Anyhow the Plus is the plus on the top row.  The minus is the dash on the top row.  Multiply is the * above the 8 and divide is the forward slash at the bottom row.  Delete clears the field.  Enter acts as the equals.  You can perform with multiple numbers like 1 + 3+8 etc.  anytime you want to know what is the field information use the JAWS read current line hot key.

This works for both Windows 7 and 10.

I have never tried to go in more depth than this, so there could be more.

Hope this helps.

Barbara

A lot of my Outlook hangs got resolved in the build that came out a few weeks ago. Also, I have heard some chatter about versions of Office from a few months back havig issues that are resolved in the newer versions. If you are not on the "monthly" channel of Office updates, you might want to consider being on it.  In either case, FS Support should be able to quickly verify if they know of issues with either your JAWS or Office versions.your version number is something like 2019.190

Hello.

I finally called FS technical support about this issue. I was told that Microsoft was aware of the problem with character or word navigation failing to work reliably and it was they who were working on the fix. This seems to confirm my suspicion that the problems I and others were noticing may have been caused by an update to Office 365. This morning I noticed that updates to Office were available. I downloaded and installed the updates and, so far, the issue seems to have been fixed but I will continue to monitor it to see if it really has been fixed. To check for updates, open an Office application such as Word and do the following.

1. Press Alt+F for the file menu or, as it's officially called, the backstage view.

2. Press D for the Account tab.

3. Press R for Updates.

 4. Press U to check for updates.

Hello. Regarding my previous message the problem with Word navigation seems to have fixed itself, which I am finding just as perplexing as the original problem. I did not alter any JAWS settings. I simply went into another program to see if the same issue occurred, the program being LibreOffice Writer. When navigating in a Writer document the cursor navigation behaved normally, consistently speaking each character as I pressed right arrow. When I closed Writer and opened Word the problem, at least for now, has magically fixed itself. I had, by the way, closed and reopened Word several times and this did not fix the problem. While I'm grateful that the issue seems to be fixed I'd still welcome any input in case it resurfaces as I'd like to understand what happened to break the navigation and what happened to correct it.

The one thing that just occurred to me is that I closed JAWS to see if the issue occurs with NVDA, which it did not. I suppose it's possible that the act of shutting down and restarting JAWS is likely what may have fixed the issue but I'd still like more information if any of you have any insights.

Hello.

I am recently encountering a perplexing problem which I am noticing on two different computers.

Both machines are running Windows 10, build 1903, with the latest set of updates for both Windows as well as Office 365.

When I navigate in a Word 365 document using left arrow or right arrow to move character by character I often hear silence instead of the character next to the caret. As an example, if I type

Now is the time for all good men

and begin navigating with right arrow from the beginning of the line I might hear the O in "now" but when I move to the W the character does not speak. It doesn't say "space" or something else, it is just silent. Yet when I press numpad-5 to read the current character it usually will speak the character.

Enhanced editing support is definitely enabled in the JAWS settings for Word. I wondered if this was a cursor blink rate issue. I notice that the JAWS cursor blink rate setting is set to 53, which it claims is the fastest setting. Concurrently, the cursor blink rate in my Keyboard settings in Control Panel is set for 100 and, no matter what I try to change it to, it always goes back to 100 once I select OK. It seems that the JAWS cursor blink rate setting is forcing the Windows cursor blink rate setting to conform to what JAWS wants, which I found absolutely mind-blowing. I first discovered this in Chrome when I was receiving inaccurate results when moving the cursor on a Web page I use at work but most other Web pages speak normally when moving the cursor. This all started today and I am at a total loss as to what is happening. I am open to ideas and suggestions from others who may have a clue as to what's going on as I clearly do not. I would really prefer to not have to do a JAWS repair but if doing so will absolutely fix the problem then I will do it.

Try the following while in Excel:

1. Press alt-f, t, a (options/advanced).
2. Tab to "allow editing in cells" and be sure it is *not checked.

that solved the problem for me.

Good luck.

Tom, This happens to me once in a while and what I have found is that it seems to happen when the cell that I am trying to edit is not actually on the screen. I have found that if I route the JAWS curser to the PC curser by hitting Insert and numpad Minus, then hit the numpad Plus key to return to the PC Curser, the cell that I am trying to edit will become visible and the F2 key will then work. also, sometimes just arrowing down and then back up in the column that your are trying to edit in will bring the cell into range to edit. Hi,
I use Excel 2016 on Windows 10 with Jaws 2019 all day long at work and have few if any issues. However, one of my coworkers who has nearly an identical configuration can’t edit cells in a spreadsheet by pressing F2 and using the arrows to move around the cell. Jaws gives her no speech at all, just “blank blank blank”. Why is that happening and what can we do to fix the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks to all of you for your input. I just placed another order, and everything went fine. I even got the option to use another address, though I didn’t choose that one this time. They did send me a one-time password for authentification, which I used and all is well. Not sure what’s going on. I used the regular site. Yesterday, however, I was trying both sites with no luck.

Thanks again.
