the saving of a file has finished or use the TTS in Windows to announce when the file has finished being saved. this lets you continue using your computer while doing other things. there's one called Sound Effects that adds sounds to events such as when a link opens up in a tab or if it opens in a new window, and other helpful sounds. the sounds can only be enabled (checked) or disabled (unchecked), but there's one sound that needs to be enabled so the others will play. the All Clear Downloads for Chrome extension has an option to disable the download status shelf so the progress of the saving of a download will not be constantly announced by your screen reader while you use the computer for something else like reading an article or researching. uBlock origin and uBlock Origin Extra helps to block undesireable ads. I don't go crazy with extensions, but others may have other suggestions that might be intriguing.

Hi,
Another quick way to get to the Sort submenu is to hit your applications key, and then the letter O. You can then up/down arrow to A to Z, Z to A, etc, and hit enter on the way you want to sort. David

David Goldfield <david.goldfield@...>
David Goldfield, Blindness Assistive Technology Specialist JAWS Certified, 2019 WWW.DavidGoldfield.org Accessing Favourites in Microsoft Edge. We've recently discovered what we consider to be quite a flaw in the use of Microsoft Edge. When storing a site as a Favourite, you can no longer access it from the Favourites folder within File Explorer. A lot of people like to do this for several reasons. It is much easier to navigate the list, the Favourites can be searched, renamed, deleted, and you can just pull one of them out and put it on the Desktop if you use it very frequently. If you know how to use File Explorer, you can manage your Favourites. If you have our Leasey or J-Say products, of course you have good solutions already in the form of LeaseyCuts and J-Say Shortcuts. They are working with Edge. However, if you have purchased our new training course on the use of Microsoft Edge, you will also get some JAWS scripts which bring back this very useful utility of creating Favourites to web pages. Not only will they allow you to create the Favourites, but you can choose which folder they are saved into. We're thinking ahead here because if Microsoft decided to remove the default Favourites folder at any time, you can still use this feature. We've also given you a keystroke to quickly access your Favourites folder. We can confidently advertise this feature because we have it working! Enjoy it when it comes along!

Re: Jaws 2020 lag with Outlook 365
David Goldfield <david.goldfield@...>
I do notice a delay from the time I press enter to open a message until the time when JAWS begins reading the message. I first thought that this was an Outlook issue but I don't notice this delay as much when performing the same task using NVDA. With the
preview pane disabled navigating through messages in the message list is responsive but opening a message is not. David Goldfield, Blindness Assistive Technology Specialist JAWS Certified, 2019 WWW.DavidGoldfield.org On 1/28/2020 8:40 AM, Norma A. Boge wrote:

I turned off the reading pane and a couple other things. Seems to help with arrowing through a message list. However, the lag for Jaws responding and my ability to type in the body of a reply message is even worse, probably around 7-8 seconds this time. I do appreciate the reminder about the pane, I wish the settings would just stay but evidently MS doesn’t think that is a priority. Bummer.

Hi group,
As I await a response from Vispero support, I’m wondering if anyone is experiencing the following:
I have noticed that the lag while using Outlook 365 with Jaws 2020 is even worse than with Jaws 2019. Arrowing through a message list, Jaws simply stops speaking. I can read the title of the window but that’s it. Then after 3-4 seconds I am able to proceed normally through the list. And it takes about 5 seconds before I can type a reply to a message. A few months ago I asked about this lag while in a Outlook webinar with the Microsoft accessibility group. They acknowledged the problem but that was about all they said. I can hardly wait to see what Vispero’s take is.
Helpful feedback welcome. Norma

I've used an 80-cell display in a work environment, and I can definitely recommend it. More cells are better (within a reasonable limit, of course).

The Focus 40 has the keys etc, too. I mean, hell, if you have access to an 80 cell display and enough room on your desk….why wouldn’t you get one? I have recently acquried both a used Focus 40 and an old Brailliant 80 display; the 80 cell display makes my desk a bit cramped and it has power and dot issues, but were it not for those things, I’d probably use it. I think especially for programmers being able to look at a single, lengthy line of text input would be pretty beneficial.

It worked, but there are a few oddities.
If I want it to work in my flashcard app, the top line needs to say “side 1 in A1, and “side 2” in b1. The remainder of the items also need to take this format.
Is there an easy way to do this?
