Hi.

Not sure, the post  button is right there for me, though it’s labelled “comment button”. Perhaps facebook is temporarily broken for you. They have a number of servers and they’re not all always fully functional at the same time. If you tab once from the field you type into m.facebook.com though to leave a comment, you should normally find that button immediately using firefox.

Hi group,

Using current Jaws with Firefox, Brave and I.E. I received a message saying I was mentioned in a comment. I use the link to go to FB but after I write my comment, I am unable to find a button to post. I see buttons for inserting an emoji, attaching a photo, posting a GIF or sticker only. I couldn’t even find the string on the mobile site. What am I missing here? Looking forward to someone ending my struggle…

List Rules

When:
Monday, 1 July 2019
12:00am to 1:00am
(GMT-04:00) America/New York

Description:
The following is the current version of the JFW Mailing List policies. These are sent out monthly, and also available from:

http://groups.io/g/jfw/wiki/List-Policies

**List Policies**

1: Keep it clean. We're a family list, and there are people here who probably don't want to hear everything *exactly* that's running through your head. If you wouldn't see it on TV, it doesn't belong in a post to the list. If you're not sure, email the administration before you post it to the list. Otherwise, you stand to see your posts moderated.

2: Stay on topic. We're a JFW-oriented list. That said, anything related to JFW, its functionality with programs etc is acceptable. If it doesn't have to do with JFW, it doesn't belong on the list. This includes, but isn't limited to, talk of other screen readers such as Window Eyes.

3: Listen to, and respect, the wishes of the admins/moderators. If you're asked by an admin or moderator to drop a subject, or take something to private emails (in the instance of two people carrying on a thread list-wide), please do so. If the subject is changed on a thread by an admin or moderator, it will be explained why in the email sent out with it. Please don't continue replying to the old subject.

4: Don't ask over the list for a position on the list administration. If you'd like to help out, it's of course welcome, but address the request to do so to the admin team, otherwise it'll be ignored. Requests are always welcome, whether help is being looked for or not. When help is needed, a post will be made to the list. The requests already received will be kept in mind.

5: Keep flaming to a minimum. This is not limited to flaming of each other, but goes beyond that, to flaming of products, opinions, ideas, suggestions, etc. Constructive criticism never hurts. Flame wars, especially public ones, both drive people from this list and are unwelcome here. either take the problem to private emails, or report the problem to list administration.

6. Respect the opinions and views of others. This is *very* important in any environment, most especially an online environment where the only gage one has on a person is what that person puts to writing. If you come off as hostile in your posting, whether you intended to or not, people will take it as such. Online, "face value" means just that. People make mistakes, people don't always have access to the same information you do. For that matter, people don't always have the same experience you do. If you know how someone can solve their problem, great. Suggest it to them and/or the list. Do *not* proceed to tell someone, on or off list, that they have no business posting. Repeat offenders of this particular rule will be banned for a week to 30 days, depending on the severity. Serious problems will be banned permanently.

As always, if there are problems or questions with regards these policies, don't hesitate to send them off-list to jfw+owner@groups.io

James,
List Admin

Hi Annabelle.  If you create a native win32 or console application with c++, No special accessibility code is needed as screen readers in general are able to interpret native windows applications quite well.  There are, however accessible enhancing libraries you could use to enhance your program's accessibility if you so wish.  Tolk is a good example.  Search for it's github page on Google for more info. Cheers!

Hi,
You can check the QT framework. I've used it in python for GUIs and in V++ for console applications. The GUI framework that definitely does render accessible content is WS. QT, although the most popular, was a hit or miss for me.

Yes Bill,

I responded too soon and realized that the question was about restarting Jaws.

I sent the DOS  command for shutting down or rebooting the computer.  This I have in a desktop shortcut with a hot key to speed up the process.

The force option used to always work in Win 7. Now it doesn't in Win 10.

If some applications are still open Jaws stops but the screen has the warning about closing an open application.

Hello,

I have this DOS command in my desktop shortcut.

   C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe -s -f -t 00

the 's is for shutdown, -r is for reboot

the -f is for force (It doesn't work as well as it did in Win7

The -t is the time to wait -- 0 mili seconds

The command shutdown.exe might work without the path.

You could move the shutdown.exe file to your root directory.

Press enter. Then new information will “pop up”, usually somewhere in the vicinity of the link. It could be a menu of some sort that gives you other choices. It really depends on the website.

I think without  your friend Evelyn joining the group and asking direct questions where she can explain exactly what she has done and not done there really is no point in trying to trouble shoot this.

Outlook.com has nothing to do with Office 365 or her Gmail account. You said she received your message, but you don’t say if that is in Outlook or on the Gmail website. If she uses Outlook and it is set up correctly using IMAP Control + R will reply to a  message she received. As I said before, she should call Microsoft Accessibility to make sure all is set up correctly, then if she has further questions I would advise her to join the group and ask directly.

OK, yes, I do understand this now.

The question remains, is her current Gmail account set up correctly in Outlook? Also, if she only got Office in order to use Outlook and she doesn’t use Excel or Word or has use for the 1 Tb of OneDrive storage then she would be better off cancelling the subscription and to get what is called a “recycled” license key for Office 2019, you can buy them on eBay for I think $10 or less and it is a one-time payment not a monthly or yearly subscription. There is also Thunderbird which is a free mail client and of course if she uses Windows 10 then she has Mail built in.

If she does use online storage then the Office 365 subscription is actually a good deal.

Also, whether she uses Outlook, Thunderbird or the Windows 10 Mail app, she will of course have to learn how to use these applications or she will end up like back in 2014 when she decided she didn’t like Windows Live Mail.

Sieghard

I mean no offense, but your mails are so all over the place that I doubt you will ever get a good answer. You write 2 lines and mention two Gmail accounts, Windows Live Mail, Facebook, JFW and Office 365 and to me all seem like random, unrelated things. What does Facebook have to do with Office 365? Windows Live Mail is an old mail client which probably shouldn’t even be used in Windows 10 which has a built-in mail application called simply “Mail”. But even if that is what your friend used and didn’t like there is really no reason to create a new Gmail account. All she would have to do is to make sure she deletes the account from Mail, if she in fact downloaded Windows Live Mail she should uninstall it, then she can set up her Gmail account in Outlook. You still haven’t said if she even properly configured this Gmail account in Outlook and I assume she did not because if it were set up correctly then she would see her Inbox and emails and Control + N definitely would start a new email.

Yu also mentioned she worked with Microsoft Accessibility to get Office 365, if that is the case why does she not call them back so they can help her set this  up correctly.

Ok, but I'm 90% sure from reading past messages that your friend doesn't need Office Email, and Microsoft is probably upselling at this point.

If your friend is running Windows 10, have them ask the disability support line to stop playing with Office and just set up Windows Mail for them. It will be far, far easier for your friend and much less complicated. Outlook is an enterprise application and unless your friend needs Outlook for professional reasons, she doesn't need to set it up.

Even so, most companies that use Outlook have Office Business subscriptions anyway so the employees themselves don't pay for Office licenses.

Windows Mail is light, fast and simple to use; and 100% free.

Did your friend set up an Email account in Outlook? You need an Email account configured before those commands will work.

For a simpler experience, I would recommend your friend to use the built-in Windows Mail. Outlook is mostly good for business environments and is overkill for most of the people I've seen using it.

Office 365 is a subscription service, you can pay monthly or for the entire year which is cheaper. Among some other benefits like 1 Tb of OneDrive storage and getting 60 Skype minutes each month the Office 365 subscription also includes a license to download the full Office suite and install it on  up to 5 computers. This of course includes Outlook as well as Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. But you only get to use the full set of Office apps and features as long as you pay your subscription.

You probably didn’t get a response back before because your question is pretty hard to understand.

Even now the only question I can glean from this is:

“Is there outlook or office 365 email ?”

Yes. Outlook is the e-mail client in Microsoft office.

If you want your friend to be helped by the list, I think you’ll need to be a bit more specific, or maybe even get her on here to ask the question herself.

Does she have outlook? I guess that’d be a good place to start. Is she trying to set up e-mail with an iSP? Gmail? Something else?

I think without  your friend Evelyn joining the group and asking direct questions where she can explain exactly what she has done and not done there really is no point in trying to trouble shoot this.

Outlook.com has nothing to do with Office 365 or her Gmail account. You said she received your message, but you don’t say if that is in Outlook or on the Gmail website. If she uses Outlook and it is set up correctly using IMAP Control + R will reply to a  message she received.

Sieghard

Don't give up on IE yet. It will occasionally  work when others wont do what you need them too. The truth is you need multiple browsers because each will work in a situation where the others wont. the new Chromium based Edge is pretty good. I use it as my default browser and use IE and Firefox on occasion. There will never be a single work on every webpage browser for us.

Vivaldi is not nearly as easy to use as advertised and I haven't tried water fox or Brave but I will be after reading this.

Sieghard

Sieghard  When Evelyn  had her gmail address with window live mail in 2014 or 2015 she didn’t like it at all because she don’t know how to used it I asked her why she removed window live mail so she told me something I can’t remember  she didn’t have no email clients for 4 or 5 years now so she got office 365  in 2 weeks ago  with her gmail account. Do you understand ?

Sieghard

Hi,

Tell your friend to open Outlook and press CTRL+N to start a new message, and CTRL+R to reply to a message.
