The code is actually very simple. The script name is ToggleScreenShade, so I just need to call it when JFW starts.

I do not know enough about the specifics of the jaws scripting language however here is pseudo code that may help:

Wants Jaws script is loaded
Confirm jaws has started
Enable required functionality

I'll try to put in more simpley:

The screen shade setting does not appear in the Jaws Settings Center and is only accessible through the layered keystroke feature or, Jaws quick settings.

The layered keystroke feature is when you  hold down the Insert key then press down the spacebar, let up on both keys, then press a third key to perform a particular task.  In this case the layered keystroke to turn the, Screen Shade, On or Off task is below:

Hold down the Insert key, then press down the spacebar, now let up on both keys, and tap the, Print Screen, button.

With each press of this keystroke sequence you will hear Jaws report either, Screen shade on or, Screenn shade off.

Since the Jaws screen shade feature isn't available in the Settings Center, and can be only accessed by the 2 ways mentioned above, here's the way to check its current setting through Jaws quick settings:

BTW,  whether you're in Explorer or a program, the screen shade setting is found in the General Options category of Jaws quick settings.

So, when, in or on, most places of your computer press, Insert + V, to open Jaws quick settings.

Down arrow until you hear Jaws report, General Options, and if Jaws reports that it's closed right arrow to open.

Now continue down arrowing until you hear Jaws report, Screen Shade, either checked or unchecked.  Pressing the spacebar will toggle this setting on & off, checked being, On, and unchecked being, Off.

If you make a settings change for this setting or others, then tab to the, Okay button, press enter to save your settings changes & close quick settings.

If this isn't plain enough, will someone please explain it in an easier fashion?!

Okay now it's time for me and the iBarstool to become attached at the seat, so to speak!  LOL  LOL

Excuse me, but other list members, the vast majority of whom live here in the states,  have the right to full disclosure about Kaspersky Labs and its ties to the hostle Russian government.  This Moscow-based company has been banned from doing business with US government agencies, so as the saying goes, where' there's smoke, there's fire.  Although Kaspersky's anti-virus products may be legit, the company's real mission is highly questionable, regardless of anyone's political beliefs, and I personally would not trust their software products when Windows Security is free and probably just as effective. But to each, his own.

Why would anyone trust a paid anti-virus program who developers are based in Russia?  There have been allegations that this company may even be involved in the Russian hacking scheme to influence the outcomes of the 2016 and now the 2020 elections, and that it may even have close ties to Vladimir Puten. I have no idea whether these allegations are true or not, but why take chances when Windows Security is free and totally accessible and does a satisfactory job?

Hello. While I have not used Kaspersky Total Security I have been using Kaspersky Antivirus for approximately five years with both JAWS as well as with NVDA. I can definitely confirm your findings. I won't say much about using Kaspersky with NVDA since this is a JAWS-specific list. However, the following link will take you to a detailed review which I wrote discussing NVDA's performance with Kaspersky. When using Kaspersky Antivirus with JAWS I have sometimes seen JAWS being able to read the various controls as I navigate to them with tab or shift-tab but this accessibility seemed to stop working after a while. I am guessing this could have been due to a Kaspersky program update but I cannot confirm this without uninstalling it and reinstalling an earlier version which I honestly don't wish to do. For now the tab key reads nothing and, as you say, using the touch cursor is necessary when navigating in the main window. If you access the program from the system tray choosing the Settings or Task Manager options may be more accessible with JAWS. I do feel that some scripting could solve for many of these issues. Once I learn a little more about scripting I am willing to try and write some Kaspersky scripts but it's going to be a while before this can happen.

Hello guys!

Thank you for letting me in in to your groups! I am a JAWS user from Poland, primarily interested in programming, sound design and other things. I have came here to discuss this great screenreader with you, ask questions and help others to the best of my ability.

The first problem I have noticed and wanted to discuss is JAWS support for the Kaspersky Total Security package. I use this software and it is essential for me to have this one pretty wellaccessible.. The competing screenreader works with it OK, however JAWS has its problems. Tab and Shift+Tab seem not to work at all while I am in the PC Cursor mode. I have to use the touch cursor to operate the software, and it is not always convenient to use this specific cursor.

Moreover this behavior is very illogical to me, as KTS’s interface seems to be standard WPF or something of that sorts.

Maybe I am doing something wrong (I’m pretty new to JFW, I use it for less than a year).

Also, when you use insert-F11 to bring up the system tray, once you arrow to an item you can tab down and there’s right single click, left single click, and left double click.

LOL  LOL

Re: JFW and the jumping tray

Actually I also had this system tray problem in the past.
But what I figures out is that whenever you presses the application key or enter on any icon, your mouse pointer moves to that icon, so when you press any other key to move to another icon, your mouse pointer is still on the previous icon, so your focus moves to that one.
So, use the mouse, or the keys for mouse movements to moves away the mouse from the system tray. What I use is: presses the numpad minus to activate the JAWS cursor, then presses the alt+shift+upArrow to move the mouse to upwards. then use system tray.mouse pointer

Can you please retype your response in English?
I'd like to know the answer to this question as well, but can't read your response.

Or to do it in Jaws quick settings:

To cee if the, Screen Shade, is on or off go into the quick settings menu with, Insert + V, or Capslock plus v if you are using the laptop layout.

Type, shade, in the search field and down arrow 1 time.  Jaws should report if it's checked or not, and if it isn't press the spacebar to check it then tab to, Okay, and press enter to save / close.

Hi,

I once did it. I remember I edited some script file to make it happen but I forgot what and how it was done. Could someone help me in that direction? This is for my friend who has an serious eye problem and he needs to have the curtain on all the time..

I have searched in default.jss but that file seems to change a lot from my last visit in it.

A possible way to reduce extra notes on the list?

Tim Ford

Hi All,

I have a favor to ask.  I have noticed more and more that some on this list will send multiple emails, often 3 or more, on the same subject, sending them all at around the same time.  Thus, there is not any time for anyone to respond.  Essentially the sender is using 3 emails instead of 1, as if they decided to write one thought per note.  I hope folks can appreciate this is simply a suggestion, to try and reduce the number of notes.  Thanks for all the activity on this list, it is very helpful, just sometimes a bit of extra effort to read all the separate notes.

Sincerely,

Tim Ford

Windows defender is not effective. A completely fiasco software. We
know that the first virus in computer history was written by Bill
Gates. So why do we trust Microsoft so much? Kaspersky says there is
no such thing. They even say we can show our source code. Despite
this, I do not go and use an antivirus that does nothing. Kaspersky
also has a free antivirus.

Hello. I also use Kaspersky Total Security. I have no problems other
than accessibility. The installation of the program is in no way
accessible. Also, as you said, the navigation in the interface is only
provided with a touch pointer. I have been trying to convey these
issues to the Kaspersky developer team for years. Unfortunately, the
problem they solved in one version comes back in the next version. I
must say that it doesn't work properly with NVDA either. I want
Kaspersky to be accessible, too.
