Hi All,

Below is the download link for J2020.1910.37 Beta 3 and what's new in this release + a shortcut link to the Beta report form.

32 & 64 bit:

What's New:

The following is a list of improvements made between Public Beta 2 and Public Beta 3. Note that while many customer-reported enhancements are included
in this release, the following is a list of more notable changes.

Updated BraillePen Display Driver

Added an updated driver from Harpo in Poland to support their New BraillePen 14 Braille device in addition to the previously supported BraillePen 12T.
Now, all models are supported by this driver.

Other Changes
list of 5 items
• The new "Virtual Cursor On/Off based on Browser Tabs" option in Settings Center is now turned on by default.
• JAWS now announces the currently selected menu in Google Docs when you activate a menu or use LEFT and RIGHT ARROW to move between menus.
• JAWS now indicates list items markers in Google Docs. For example, if your document contains a numbered list, you should hear "1, 2, 3," and so on as
you navigate the list.
• Resolved a customer reported issue where JAWS stopped responding when moving over a link in a Word document and a Braille display was connected.
• In Adobe Reader, when moving between pages in a document , addressed a customer reported issue where JAWS was skipping the first line of the new page.
list end

I have Windows set to always show hidden files, so I guess I wasn’t really sure – but those attributes do not seem to be active in the files in my utilities directory, at least.

BTW I don’t know what files you are looking for specifically, but you will also have files in your username\appdata\roaming directory. Your settings will be there, for instance.

On mine, both have more than two folders.

The X86 one is the main one, it also holds Open Book.

Or, perhaps for installations of Jaws since their new payment scheme, there are less folders, but I don't know why that might matter.

Hi Marty,

My guess that the computer in question is a 64 bit computer and the one you are used to has a 32 bit version of Windows running on it.

On 64 bit computers running Windows 64 bit, there are two Program File folders in the root of C:.

There is one that has (x86) after it, and there should be a Freedom Scientific folder in there too, and probably the one you are looking for.

HTH.

BTW, this is how anyone can tell if they are running a 64 bit version of Windows, which of course will only run on a 64 bit computer.

If you don't have both Program Files folders, then your windows is 32 bit.

That is odd, perhaps it got installed in a sub folder inside Program Files.
You could search for folders with the word Freedom and see if you can find it.

Just one more thing here.

The x86 folder is designated for 32-bit applications.

The one that’s just labeled “program files” is for 64-bita pplications.

On a 64-bit system, you will have both.

On my system, I have a freedom scientific subfolder in both folders, however the “x86” one is much smaller.

Looks like it may be the reverse, in your case, then.

That leads me to wonder if you did actually install a 64-bit version of jaws on that machine?

Anyway, if you check the “x86” folder, you should indeed see a lot ore JAWS-related files, if they’re not in the other one.

a slight correction, I saide "from now on...". the change does not
persist. it is restored to toggling between full speech and speech on
demand. however there is a setting in the default configurations named
Less Speech Options which can be toggled to Mute Speech. press enter
twice and reboot. the toggling between full speech and speech mute
should now persist future reboots.

btw, I'm still using Windows 7 with JAWS 2018. don't know if this works
in latest versions of JAWS in Windows 10.

the way I know how to toggle between full speech and speech mute is to
first make sure the verbosity is set to speech on demand.
then press insert+spacebar shift+s.

from now on, insert+spacebar s will toggle between full speech and
speech mute.

Hi.

There is a setting in, I think, “speech options” where you can switch
the insert-space, s toggle between “speech on demand” and “no speech”.

I have mine set to “no speech”, since I tend to use braille 99% of the
time nowadays and hardly use speech at all, but still want to be able to
turn it on quickly from time to time.

I have found that some scripts, notably, ones for Skype, break this
feature. As in, they will turn speech back on, and after this, the
toggle will not work at all until a JAWS restart. This is a bug of some
kind, which I will probably report; I just need to figure out which
scripts, exactly, are causing this. Anyway, other than that, it works
pretty well.

Hello,

I was trying to make souch profile to activate with insert+ctrl+s but
this seems not to work.

Is there a quick way to turn off speech for a time or in a specific
situation?

Kind regards

On mine, both have more than two folders.

The X86 one is the main one, it also holds Open Book.

Or, perhaps for installations of Jaws since their new payment scheme, there are less folders, but I don't know why that might matter.

This is the case.  There are 2 Program Files folders and the second one has X86 after.  There is no Freedom Scientific folder in the first one, but there is this folder in the one with X86 and it only seems to have the 2 sub folders in it.  Where are the rest of the JAWS folders?

I have noticed that there are several folders in the Freedom Scientific folder on my Windows 7 machine where I am running JFW 2019, but when I installed JAWS 2019 on my Windows 10 laptop, there are only the Error Reporting and Shared folders showing in the Freedom Scientific folder in Program Files on the laptop computer.  Why is this and how do I get the rest of the files to show?

the way I know how to toggle between full speech and speech mute is to first make sure the verbosity is set to speech on demand.
then press insert+spacebar shift+s.

from now on, insert+spacebar s will toggle between full speech and speech mute.

I was trying to make souch profile to activate with insert+ctrl+s but
this seems not to work.

Is there a quick way to turn off speech for a time or in a specific
situation?

Kind regards

Yes, I use the speech on demand option to do this exact thing on webinars. It's Insert spacebar then s to toggle speech on and off. Mine says "Speech on demand" when I am essentially muting JAWS and says "Full Speech" when I toggle it back to regular mode.

If you hit jaws-space and then s, it will go into a mode where it only
speaks if you hit one of the reading keys, if you then hit jaws-space
and s, normal speech will come back.
